MY REVIEW: I was looking for a place in Katy with a private party room on this website and El Asador came up. We went there on a Sunday for lunch to check out the food and the room and were favorably impressed. We booked the room (no additional charge) for my husband's upcoming 60th Birthday and everything was perfect. We did a fajita buffet for about 30 adults and they let our 6 little ones order from the Kids Menu. They set up a table for our birthday cake and even cut it and served, providing the plates and forks too. The fajita buffet price includes tea/soft drink and gratuity. I coordinated everything with the owner who was there for our party. I liked that it is privately owned rather than chain. We don't live in Katy, but it was the halfway spot for most of our family members attending the party from Sealy and Richmond. Overall we were very pleased with the food and service and would highly recommend El Asador.

MY REVIEW: Good quality food for a very reasonable price, new place, nicely decorated, very nice patio. Place is very clean and the owner was there. The only thing that I missed is that the owner/manager didn’t come to say hello. I will be back.

MY REVIEW: Had a wonderful lunch. Excellent service. Friendly staff. Cheerful music. Attentive. Food served on time. Reasonably priced. We will return and probably do an evening staff meeting for dinner. I encourage others to bring groups.

MY REVIEW: Food here is much below the standard set by other nearby places like El J*arrito, A*licia's, and L*upe Tortilla. The red salsa is a thin, semi-smoky, mixture heavy on black pepper. I've had a sauce so much like this in several non-Tex-Mex places that serve Mexican influenced dishes that I suspect it is a commercial preparation. The green salsa is also a thin, generic version of the ubiquitous green salsas you see everywhere. Not horrible, but not particularly good. That's pretty much the theme here. Food you can eat, but nothing to come back for. A chile relleno was bland, and overcooked. The poblano was soft and mushy, devoid of any spiciness. Rice and beans were nothing more than an space fillers on the plate, and were more like frozen dinner sides than what you'd expect from a good Tex-Mex place in Texas. A combo plate with a taco and enchiladas was similarly bland. In all, it is a C-minus experience and you will be well served to try any of several better places nearby.

MY REVIEW: First time visit. Not totally sure what to think, but positive enough to return. Service was a mixed bag, but mostly positive and the food was average to above average, but not great. Atmosphere was nice and everyone was friendly.

RE Service: The service started off good, ended excellent, but had a poor dive in the middle. Service was almost too attentive at first; we had three different folks come by to take drink orders in the first two minutes. Early drink service, chips/salsa service, and our order was taken promptly. Oddly the table next to us had to complain to get their order taken and they were seated before us. Our appetizer (Chile con Queso) was delivered with our food after a fairly long wait; we would not have ordered the queso if we'd known it would be served late. Once our dinners were served (w/ the queso?) we did not get any service for a while; we needed drink refills and tortillas. Once the server showed up again the completion of our meal went very well.

RE Food/Drinks: The chips were good and the salsa tasted fine. The red salsa however was very runny; good taste but I'd have preferred it to be thicker. The happy hour margaritas were good and an excellent value! The Chile con Queso was average at best and not worth being served late, appetizers should precede the meal! We ordered Fajitas Caliente (mixed beef/chicken) that was almost above average; I say almost because was very little jalapeno and cilantro. Both the beef and chicken were tender and there were a lot of grilled onions.

Bottom Line: They must be doing something right; it was packed on a Tuesday night. However we experienced spotty service, excellent happy hour margaritas, good chips/salsa, tender fajitas. We'll return and specifically request that appetizers be served before the meal and probably try something else on the menu.

MY REVIEW: We noticed that a new Mexican restaurant had made an appearance in Katy and thought we would give it a try. We were glad we did! We came for dinner and were pleased with everything. The food was very good and there was plenty of it. Prices are reasonable and service was good. The atmosphere is casual but tasteful. The music wasn't too loud (a particular pet peeve of my wife's). Our daughter was happy that they provided a little package of wax wiki six instead of the same old crayon pack. Very pleased! Oh, and Sangria was mighty tasty!

MY REVIEW: Tried this new restaurant for lunch. Checked on the dinner prices which are very comparable to most Mexican restaurants in Katy and lower than a couple. Lunch menu is $7.99. Manager visited our table and service was very good. This is not the best location to draw in people but I hope they will make it work. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Chicken fajitas were nice portions of chicken breasts grilled and sliced; the Flan was delicious. Only suggestion from this first visit would be for them to change their chip - tasted a little rancid to some and they were too thick for my liking. Also prefer a little chunkier salsa that includes cilantro but still the red salsa was fair and the green sauce a little better. We will be going back to give El Asador another try.

MY REVIEW: We ate here last night. It was clean and we were practically the only people there. Service was okay. The salsa was good. Queso was thick--like it had been sitting all day. Tex-Max Fajitas (tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, cilantro) were really good. Sopapillas were okay.

While it was good...we will not be returning. It is more expensive than the other Katy Mexican places and service was not as great as other places. Our main issue, the facebook page says :

Kids eat FREE at El Asador Mexican Restaurant. every Monday!!! ( 1 free kids meal with an adult entree.) see you soon!!!

When presented with the bill, it did not reflect the kids eat free promo and we were charged for our son's food. He ordered an additional a la carte taco (after he finished his kids meal) which I fully expected to pay for, since we only had one child--I did not expect 2 free kids meals--even though we had 2 adults.

We were charged $9.98 for our sons food--they charged us for 2 complete kids meals, even though it was kids eat free night, and he only had one kids meal and one a la carte taco.

When we pointed out we were being charged for 2 meals and we thought one was free, the waiter did not know about the promo. We paid and left.

For almost $10, my son could have ordered off the adult menu and had more food. This was disappointing.

There are so many great Mexican places in Katy that we already love. We will just patron those instead, due to service, food quality and the bait and switch on our bill.

MY REVIEW: The competition for Mexican restaurants in Katy is pretty stiff, but after the first visit this place definitely took the first place. We did a to go order and even though the restaurant was busy two waiters took my food to the car for me. The fajita meat and tortillas were delicious and the refried beans were the best I have ever had. The pico was a little too spicy for me (real jalepenos), but my husband loved it. I went again tonight and got a enchilada/taco combination plate with the charro beans and again it did not disappoint. The manager and staff that I dealt with were all very kind.

As far as ambiance is concerned, the dining room is similar to the restaurant that was there before (C*afesitos), so it looks like it should be fairly expensive, but the prices are comparable to the other mexican restaurants in the area.
