MY REVIEW: I moved back a couple of years ago to the Houston area from Chicago, where I was spoiled by some of the great Indian/Pakistani places on Devon Ave. I really became enamored of the cuisine, when it's done well; interestingly, as much as I love my meat, my favorite Indian/Pakistani dishes are meatless. I'm in Friendswood, and I don't often get into Houston. I've tried some other restaurants in the Clear Lake area, with varying degrees of satisfaction; mostly, it had to do with the lack of my of my favorite menu items or the spicing/ingredients. Salateen is a gem. It's located in a little strip mall close to Ellington Field and Old Galveston Road on FM 1959/Dixie Farm Road.
Like a lot of Houston's hidden gems, it's not much from the outside; inside, though, it's clean, cozy, inviting, and welcoming, with a friendly family staff. I called in a take-out order at 11:30 a.m. (when Salateen opens), and arrived at noon to a wonderfully aromatic crescendo of smells from the just-prepared buffet. I picked up my usual (vegetable somosas, aloo ghobi, vegetable biryani, naan, aloo paratha, and cheese naan), and high-tailed it for home. Exquisite stuff, perfectly prepared, perfectly spiced (I asked for spicy), excellently baked (the breads) and fried (the somosas). The condiments were fresh and sublime. I'll be back at least twice a week, and hope to eventually work my way through the rest of the menu (although it's going to be difficult, as good as I found my usual dishes to be). Gone forever are those late-night drooling dreams about Devon Ave.

MY REVIEW: Have been there twice for dinner and ordered chicken dishes. Both times the dishes were well prepared and served in a timely manner. Service was also very good. The meals are priced quite reasonable and the restaurant is clean. No beer and wine are served. Highly recommended.

MY REVIEW: Standard fare as far as Indian/Paki food goes. The kitchen was extremely slow to get the food out ( 27 minutes for just the appetizer). When the food did arrive, it was ok, nothing to rant nor rave about. Dinner for two with one appetizer and one dessert was just a tad over 43.00, including the tip. This did include a requested side of spinach/cheese veggie ( a special order as its not offered as a side) for $3.95. Overall it was an ok experience. Quiet place. Comfortable dining room. This is at least the 7th restaurant to occupy that location. Perhaps Ellington Field will support it for the lunch trade ( they offer a buffet). As we eat Indian/Paki about 4 times a year, we may return. It all depends on which place we settle on. There are a few in the Clear lake area to choose from. This is just another regular kid on the block.
