El Gran Malo

MY REVIEW: HANDS DOWN......the absolute best margarita I have ever had! I ordered the Jalapeno infused margarita with strawberry with salt on the rim. OMG! El Gran Malo set the bar high on this margarita!

The food tasted good, but the prices were very high. Three of us ate 3 tacos each and shared fish nacho's and I drank 4 margarita's and the guys drank beer and our bill was $189. Yes, that is american dollars, not pesos.

I live out of town and come to Houston frequently, I may come back, but it will be at happy hour.

MY REVIEW: Nothing but praise from me. I went on a whim and was welcomed by Sheridan, the bartender. She was so enthusiastic about the food and drinks. I was very impressed. Yeah, it's not as cheap as a taco truck, but I didn't want a taco truck experience. Food was great. Service was awesome.

MY REVIEW: Strong points: EXCELLENT cucumber margarita; love that they don't use margarita mix; guacamole was excellent; cute decor; proximity to my home.

Weak points: Portions a little small for price; guacamole portion was pretty small compared to competing restaurants; snapper tacos were okay but not very filling for $3/each; service a little bumpy but overall friendly.

We would probably go back for drinks during happy hour. Otherwise, I do not think I could justify the expense. A meal could get expensive in a hurry if you order enough to fill you up.

MY REVIEW: Strong points: Tequila, Tequila, beer, and some of the tacos. The infused tequila selection is super interesting. I had the ginger infused tequila. I also like the beer selection provided; there was a lot of Texas beers. mmm!Last night I sampled 4 tacos, the snapper, camarones, carnitas, and the pork belly. The pork belly and carnitas were really good. Service was decent and the staff was very welcoming. I can't wait to chill on the patio with a specialty margarita (Cucumber Mint is the bomb!) when the weather cools down.

Weak points: Parking and price. I understand that El Gran Malo is touting itself as a gastrocantina, but it's pretty pricy for tacos, especially in an area where you can walk down the street and get fantastic tacos for much cheaper. I also tried the burger which was good...but not for the price. Maybe it will improve next time I go.

I can see this place as a great happy hour hang out, if it's even offered. I will be back for more fantastic drinks though!

MY REVIEW: Weak Points: Need a better sign outdoor hard to find if not familiar with area, the place is a little run down , service very spotty, patio needs some TLC it would be great for the fall!

Strong: Greg did a great job with the tacos, they are awesome, the food very good as well as the tequila infusions.

They just need to tweek it a little and improve service and this would be a great place for great tacos and tequilas

MY REVIEW: This place is going to be a great place to go for happy hour after work. I tried just about everything at their soft opening and it is all AWESOME. You must try it. The owners are wonderful.
