Melany's Mexican Grill
190 S Gulf Fwy, League City, Texas 77573
MY REVIEW: I keep trying this place, thinking it will get better. Sadly it doesn't. You'd think a place that makes such good red & green sauces as well as killer flour tortillas, would be able to kick butt on enchiladas.
Beef enchiladas were recommended by the waiter. If he thinks these are good, then I need to take him to some nearby Mexican restaurants where he might think he died and went to Tex Mex heaven. Their enchiladas look good--they're large & meaty. But they lack any pop of flavor whatsoever. No WOW! factor, none. Same for refried beans & rice.
Sorry, I wanted to like this place for lunch & dinner, but can only recommend for breakfast.

MY REVIEW: This was my 3rd visit and based on Christi's recommendation, I had the chilaquiles breakfast. I've never tried this dish anywhere so I don't have any to compare it against, but I just know that I enjoyed it very much. Also had an egg & chorizo breakfast taco that was delicious on a homemade flour tortilla. Breakfast came with good skillet fried potatoes and refried beans which, unfornately, continue to taste slightly burned to me. Not a big fan of their refried beans, but the rest of the breakfast items I had today were winners.
Two previous lunches of beef enchiladas and shrimp enchiladas were not that great, so I think I will just stick with Melany's for breakfast only.

MY REVIEW: Based on Jeremy's recommendation I returned to try the (seafood) Enchiladas del Mar. They tasted pretty good. If I had never tasted the seafood enchiladas at C*asarez on Edgebrook (maybe 15 minutes away), then I might agree that Melany's version was excellent. But when you compare, then is NO comparison. It's not even close, C*asarez makes the better seafood enchiladas.
The shrimp at Melany's are tiny. They're jumbo at C*asarez and covered in an authenic etoufee sauce. And the refried beans aren't burned-tasting like Melany's continue to be.
Go ahead, Jeremy, take the "taste" challenge (like I did!) and get back to us....

MY REVIEW: Melany's is just what the Clear Lake/League City area needed: a Mexican restaurant with delicious, high-quality food, and attentive, caring owners. Ricardo and Maribel will welcome you like family, and as you sample the freshly-made red and green salsas with your chips, you'll be blown away at the variety on the menu. I've had dinner twice, lunch once, and breakfast twice....still not sure what my favorite dish is, but the chilaquiles for breakfast are the finest in town, and by town, I mean Houston! We've sampled the recommendations of Alison Cook from the Houston Chronicle, and have always been pleased, but these are a notch above most, and are an incredible bargain at $3.99, with beans and potatoes! At lunch or dinner, try the Mexican Salad, their take on the classic Cobb salad. In all of the Tex-Mex restaurants I've tried in my 23 years here, I've never had one quite like this - amazing! Do yourself a favor and check out Melany's!

MY REVIEW: I don't know what the previous reviewer is smoking, but she clearly has no taste.
My experiences at this restaurant have been absolutely outstanding. The food has been exceptional and the service has been terrific. The meals I have had there have left me satisfied and happy. The seafood dishes have, in my humble opinion, a terrific personality and great flavor.
I highly recommend the enchiladas del mar. My tase buds were popping with excitement while eating this dish.

MY REVIEW: The first thing I noticed as I entered the restaurant was that it didn't smell like Mexican food. You know how most have that almost intoxicating aroma that comes from the kitchen when Mexican food is being prepared? This place is absent of any such smells of food. Instead, there is a somewhat unpleasant odor that needs to be addressed.
I had an enchilada lunch special: 2 beef enchiladas were fair; rice had no personality at all, just blah; refried beans had a faintly burned flavor, otherwise would've had no flavor at all--wish I would have remembered that the first reviewer said how good the borracho beans were, because refried are not good.
Decor is beyond plain. Even if they hung some Christmas lights and a few neon beer signs, that would liven up the place a bit.
The owners seem like nice people and I wish I could recommend, but there are too many Mexican restaurants in close proximity with better food.

MY REVIEW: Took the family to Melany's Grill tonight. Second visit since they opened last week. The food was excellent! The margaritas were perfect! The service was outstanding! Will be back again soon. The maragaritas had a nice subtle taste, yet packed a punch. Not the sweet packaged mix found in most of the popular restaurants in the area. Shared chicken fajitas with my wife. The charro beans may be the best I've had. Everything was fresh and hand made. The banana empanada dessert was incredible! I can't believe I still have the energy to write up this review!
Ricardo and his wife, Maribelle, have opened a gem of a restaurant in League City. Ricardo has been a waiter at many Mexican restaurants in the area for over a decade and finally, he has opened his own place. They greet, they seat, the wait tables, they do it all. Give it a try. You won't regret it.
