MY REVIEW: I walked in just curious about the place since my son was at swim in the same shopping center. I was surprised to see nothing in the display cases and waited to inquire about their desserts. While I was waiting it quickly became clear that someone behind the counter and also someone behind the door to the kitchen were arguing with a customer about how it wasn't the shop's problem that everyone who purchased a Living Social Deal waited until the last minute and they didn't have things finished/correct. When the unhappy customer left saying she'd just seek a refund from Living Social I asked if they had anything on hand, that I just dropped in to try them out. The lady at the register said just cupcakes. I asked for two. The woman behind her in the kitchen said they had nothing today and didn't offer any samples or any further information on their product. I wont' go back even though I wasn't able to even try them.

MY REVIEW: I also had a Living Social coupon and tried six flavors. There are much better cupcake bakeries in Houston - my personal favorite is S*ugarbabies - but here is my review of each of the flavors:

Vanilla - The cake is like angel food cake; more dense than a typical yellow cake. The icing is soft and sweet. This had good flavor for a vanilla/vanilla combo. My second choice among the Buttercream Babies cupcakes.

Strawberry - The cake left a slightly bitter aftertaste, almost as if it had been partly made with Splenda. The icing was good.

Chocolate chip cake with peanut butter icing - This was the best of all the Buttercream Babies flavors. The chocolate chips added flavor and texture to the cake - good crunch factor. Overall, good balance of chocolate and peanut butter flavors.

Chocolate cake/chocolate icing - This was more like cocoa than chocolate, if you know what i mean. The chocolate flavor was thin. The cake was a little too dense for my taste.

Red velvet - Cake has no flavor and is a tad dry. The icing is good and redeems this cupcake; however, there wasn't enough of it. Just a small dollop; was only enough to go with half the cupcake.

Chocolate icing, vanilla cake - I ate this on day 2 and the cake was very dry. If it is the same cake as the vanilla/vanilla combo i ate the day before, it was disappointing that it didn't stay fresh for 24 hours. The icing was stingy.

Overall, i cannot recommend this bakery. The cake is dense, there isn't enough icing, and they didn't stay fresh very long. Plus, the cupcakes are smaller than other bakeries'. I've already mentioned what i think is the best cupcake bakery in town - patronize them, with their fresh, moist cake, generous icing, staying power (still fresh after three days), and full flavor.

MY REVIEW: I tried this place out because of a living social deal for a dozen cupcakes for $12. It was relatively close to work so i bought the coupon. I ordered 6 different flavors to try them out and I asked if they could write "HAPPY BDAY DAD" in the cupcakes since there were 12 letter and 12 cupcakes. They did it with no charge =). I wish I could praise the cupcakes along with the phone service... nope. I picked up my cupcakes but did not inspect them... when I got home, i realized it said "HAPPY BDAY DAY" and in a very sloppy handwriting. The cupcake I tried (chocolate chip) was very dry, like it was a day old. My husband got chocolate, and he, too, was very disappointed. He said my Betty Crocker ones are 100x better. The cupcakes were not moist... very dense and dry. I will not be coming back. However, the place is cute and the phone service was nice.

MY REVIEW: I learned about Buttercream Babies through a special. The special was for a dozen cupcakes. I didn't need a dozen but i decided I would check it out. I was a bit frazzeled when I got there because it took 30 min to get to this place that was less than 5 miles away. Once I found the place my frustration got worse. I was about to buy $8 worth of cupcakes and they wouldn't take a credit card for less than $10 and it was 20 min to closing. So they would rather throw those cupcakes away and not not make whatever the profit margin was because they didn't want to pay $.20. Not very smart. Needless to say I didn't get the cupcakes because I didn't have cash. I don't know what their cupcakes taste like nor will I ever. If a small business cares more about a $.20 processing fee than customer service them it's not a place I care to do business with.

MY REVIEW: I stopped by this place today because I got a deal. I got some of their vanilla mini cupcakes and some lemon minis. They were *really* good. The buttercream frosting was light and fluffy and very creamy tasting. The cakes were fresh and moist.

You have to know where they are, because there's no signage and they're stuck in the back of a ratty-looking strip center next to the West Side Tennis Center.

The downside is that this place is really close to where I work, so I can envision way too many lunchtime visits here on my way back to the office.
