TQLA Houston

MY REVIEW: After dining several times, the ritas are good rocks or frozen, white queso dip great, tried several entrees which are consistently good. Great choices of tequilas. Sorry they can't handle substitutions like "sub grilled veggies", sounds easy enough (previous reviewer). Rice and beans good! More upscale cuisine than Tex-Mex, but well priced. My only complaint is what is up with no solar shades for the west sun? People were changing tables to get out of "rays". Oddly enough the Vietnam rest on the corner next to TQLA is in full sun and no shades. Everyone was huddled in the back of the dining room. Have learned were to ask to sit. Ask for Gustavo or "Gus", great waiter!! He apologized on my last visit, he felt bad his service was not up to par since other servers didn't show for work, but tried to be as attentive as he could to keep his tables happy!!

MY REVIEW: This was my fifth and final visit. On all four previous visits I was able to substitute grilled vegetables for rice and beans. This time I was told no substitutions as it was too confusing for the cooking staff and so I cancelled my entree. Apparently they've downgraded the cooking staff since my previous four visits and the new cooking staff could not handle such an outragous request. The waiter pled my case with the manager, but he would not budge. There's lots of competition on Washington Avenue, so this is not worthy of a return visit.

MY REVIEW: Ambiance, drinks, food, and service… this place has it all. Tqla has a warm/friendly energy and exceptional service. Two of the owners also stopped by our table to greet us and listen to what we had to say (very important in this business). The Skinny Margarita was superb – very fresh and not too sweet (I consider myself to be a connoisseur of Skinny Ritas - tqla’s is now tops in my book). Our table’s favorites were the salsas/chips, crawfish and spinach enchiladas, salmon with green chile mashed potatoes, the apple skillet dessert. Tqla has the right ingredients – they are poised for great success. The only thing that I would change is to make the lighting dimmer.
