MY REVIEW: OMG...what a fabulous evening! Hubby and I were with another foodie couple for our Saturday night early dinner. Really loved this place. Yes it is very noisy, but we sat in a booth and were able to talk pretty comfortably. Our waiter was fun, knowledgeable and truly seemed to want to take care of us. Wine was well priced and the food, while small portions, is really innovative and delicious. Personally we like the smaller portions as we tend to share entrees at other restaurants that insist on "big boy" servings. We ordered the kale salad, the brussel sprouts, endive salad, and quail for starters. Then we all shared a serving of the risotto with pork belly and scallops (heaven!). Entrees were pork, striped bass and steak. Finished with an assortment of desserts (don't bother with the box of chocolates...cute but not that great). The Carmelita was yummy but very sweet. We will go back...reservations are a must. this place was FILLED at 6:30 on Saturday night and just got more packed.
Really a great addition to the Houston food scene...which in my opinion is as good if not better than any other city.

MY REVIEW: My wife and I made a New Year’s resolution that we expand beyond our tried-‘n-true favorite restaurants here in Houston and at least once a month, try a new place (new to us or new to the city). So, for our first venture, I selected Triniti based on a Chronicle article that I read earlier in the week and unbeknownst to my wife, made reservations for this past Friday night.
We arrived and were told it would be a 10-15 wait, so we headed to the bar. Our drinks were served quickly, and even more quickly was the hostess coming to tell us our table was ready. One thing to note – this place is LOUD!! Conversation has to be conducted at a high volume, which of course only serves to make the noise level even higher. But I find this to be common in many restaurants, especially those with concrete (I think?) floors and sound reflective materials used throughout the décor.
Triniti certainly is a “hoppin’ and happenin’” kind of place. In fact, my wife commented that it didn’t even feel as if we were in Houston!
But to main reason to go – the service and the food. On the service side, it was great. Our waiter, Dario, was very knowledgeable about the dishes and described the ones we choose perfectly. My wife had the kale salad, which is a deconstructed “Ceasar” salad, but naturally with kale instead. Along with the kale, in a dish seemingly designed especially for this salad, was a farm egg in its own little cup-like indentation, along with pancetta and some white anchovies. Her entrée was striped bass – a filet cooked to perfection (flaky) with shallots and red wine, sitting on a bed of adzuki (a Japanese bean) and a rather lonely looking bok choy. I had the Brussels sprouts, very tasty and interestingly prepared with dungeness crab and chorizo. For my entrée, I selected the rib eye, which was cooked exactly to my liking – medium rare, and accompanied by potatoes and spinach. NOTE: the entrée portions are rather on the small side. Certainly plenty for a meal, but for people who expect large portions, they will be disappointed. Dessert for each of us was pistachio semi-freddo – extra delicious.
All this paired with a wonderful bottle of Pahlmeyer Jayson Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast.
In summary – great service, wonderful food and flavors, smallish portions, rather loud. But don’t let the latter two comments weight too heavily, as the first two will have us back!
