MY REVIEW: Tabaq took over this strip center space when K*ahn's closed and made some much needed improvements in the interior appearance. While still fairly basic, it does look a little more inviting.
I ordered a Pakistani dish called Beef Nihari. Tried this for the 1st time just a couple weeks ago at D*arbar on Scarsdale, and been craving it ever since. The pungent curry gravy is a deep, rich brown. Beef stews till it almost falls apart. Heat factor is high, yet I couldn't resist adding chopped jalapenos. The curry gravy invites you to dip pieces of fresh, hot naan into it.
Vegetable samosa was perhaps the best I ever had.
This is a no frills operation where you order at the counter and then return there where your ticket awaits. The lady at the counter is also the one who is going to be your server. She didn't warm up to me until midway thru the beef nahari when I complimented the dish. She beamed at the thought that I was enjoying her food and we had a nice conversation about her menu that includes Indian food as well as Pakistani. Nice lady--I look forward to going back.

MY REVIEW: Yummm! On a 5-star scale I would like to give them 5 stars, but I have to subtract one star for service and cleanliness. It felt like a self-serve place. My fiance and I walked in and a woman laid menus on the counter before us. We didn't think to pick them up and just sat at the table for quite some time till we decided to ask for menus. The owner brought the menus and was very helpful in answering all of our questions about the various dishes.
We ordered daal, chicken makhani, goat biryani, and naan and paid about $25 (including tip) for the entire meal. Adequate portions! Along with your meal, they give you your own pitcher of water and a small vegetable plate (cucumbers, carrots, onions, lettuce) along with mint chutney and yogurt sauce. We enjoyed everything and overate ourselves to a coma. The cleanliness of the restaurant was okay, besides the sticky tables that could've been wiped a little better. There was no soap or papertowels in the bathroom, but I was able to wash my hands at the sink located in the eating area by the kitchen door. The furnishings are simple.
There is a large dessert counter showcased in the front of the restaurant. We will definitely return to sample some of these. It's a good thing we had our own water pitcher, because we were NEVER checked on during our meal. We sat forever at the end of our meal till we decided to walk to the counter to pay. Despite all the negatives, I plan on visiting them again.
