Taqueria La Famosa
2800 W Main St, League City, Texas 77573
MY REVIEW: On my 1st visit I had breakfast tacos which were pretty darn good. But then I returned for lunch and tried a combination plate consisting of cheese enchilada, fajita taco, bean chalupa, rice and beans. I suppose taquerias exist to serve "authentic" Mexican food to working-class Mexicans (could be wrong, but that's my observation), but, at least for combo platters of echiladas, etc., I'll take a good 'ol Tex Mex joint anyday. I like it how Tex Mex restaurants put the plate containing enchiladas, rice and beans under a broiler. Taquerias apparently don't do this---at least none I've been to. Consequently, the cheese enchilada at La Famosa was not piping hot. However, the red chili sauce covering the enchilada was a change of pace, I liked it. Everything else on the plate just didn't have much taste.
Maybe I ordered the wrong thing when I returned for lunch. I was the only Gringo in the place that was packed with mostly yard maintenance workers. Most of them were eating seafood caldo that looked great. Hot as the weather is, I will return to try that soup---if it tastes as good as it looks, then I'll know this is not the kind of place to order enchilada combo plates. Also will return for more of those good breakfast tacos which they serve all day.
