MY REVIEW: After reading the reviews and the location very close to office I thought I would give it a try. Best decision! Everyone there was very nice and greeted me as I was a regular. I wish I knew about this place for the two years it's been there since I been at this office for two years. I feel like I've been missing out. Oh well, better late than never. This will be a weekly spot for me.

MY REVIEW: Excellent Indian food. I have been to almost all North Indian restaurants in Houston. There is no comparison of food quality. We always felt that Houston lacked a good north Indian restaurant inspite of so many Indian resturants in town. Others even don't come close to this restaurant. Wkanan Paneer, Hara Bhara Kabab and Korma eSubz are just great. Location is not good but food & services are SUPERB.

MY REVIEW: Great food and service. The waiter (I believe owner), was very helpful both in changing some portion sizes to permit my wife to have two things she could not decide between. He also took the heat out of the spice in my lamb dish, which was wonderful. The Naan, Rice, Samosas, and other little things were superb, even the ice tea was very good. I had a lamb dish that was told to be less spicey, but I asked for all the heat out of it, and it was delicious. My wife had lamb vindaloo and saag paneer were both great. The co-owner, wife, came by at least twice to check on us. The table was bussed promptly as we finished our food. Very comfortable, tastefully decorated and clean. Overall, a top notch experience in an unexpected location...

MY REVIEW: We went there for Christmas Day. It was very nice. There was an excellent buffet with entrees, side dishes and desserts to everyone's taste. In our group of 7, we had one young man who'd never had Indian food - but he helped himself to the buffet several times. We all enjoyed our dinner and the chef and staff were most gracious. We felt like special guests though it was the first time having been there.

MY REVIEW: Last year, we traveled to India and stayed in some of the top Palace hotels there (Udaipur Lake Palace, Jaipur Rambagh Palace, Jodhpur Umaid Bhavan Palace, Agra Amarvilas, Oberoi Delhi, etc.). The food at the Great W'kana was cooked to the same level of excellence that we experienced at those great hotels.
Most Indian restaurants in Houston have a 'good cook' churning out the curries. Often times one can hide a mediocre dish in heaps of chilli powder, spices and ghee. Make it hot and spicy, overwhelm the taste buds and you are all set.
At the Great W'kana, the husband and wife Chef team have been truly trained in the Science and Art of Cooking at the top Culinary Schools in India. It shows in their dishes. The meat is just right, just the right tenderness, etc.
You order the biriyani and you actually get the same dish it cooked in straight out of the oven sealed in a roti kind of cover. You got to use a knife to cut the cover to get to the rice, spices and meat cooked precisely the way it ought to be. The meat was originally half cooked, and the rest of the cooking happens along with the rice and spices in that dish.
Perfection, detail.... that's what you are paying for here. It certainly is a boutique restaurant and actually a good deal considering the quality of the food you are getting.

MY REVIEW: We go there at least once a week for the past 6 months. The owner/ chef recognizes us immediately. The service is professional, friendly and top notch. The food is great. Perfect, beautiful presentation every time. The place s cozy but clean and the quality of the food is excellent. You can tell the food is freshly prepated. No more Indian Buffets for us. For the price of each dish here we can try something new every week.FIVE STARS!!!

MY REVIEW: This place definitely has the best Indian food in Houston. I had the Peshawari chicken and Dum Biryani. Excellent flavours! The food transported me to delhi, the mecca of Mughlai cuisine.
You might have to wait a bit, but that's because the chef makes the food fresh for you. It is rightly priced for the excellent quality food. So much better than those all you can eat buffet Indian restaurants! Go here if you want authentic freshly prepared Indian food. Five stars.

MY REVIEW: I read the reviews and decided to try it out. It's a casual place, but appealing decor and very clean. I usually like Indian buffets for the variety, but here you order from the menu. Not only was the food delicious (I had lamb kabob, lentils, rice and salad) but the presentation was beautiful. They brought fresh naan to the table and it was perfect! The service is top notch and the price is reasonable for what you get. I definitely will be back.

MY REVIEW: have been to this place twice this week, once for lunch and the other for dinner. The menu was totally different and compact. the chef/owner makes the food right in front of you which was something eyecatching and nice for an Indian restaurant.Should try this place out, actually priced very less for the quality of food they serve, think its because of the location.all the best and would defenitely go again.

MY REVIEW: The Indian food here is better than anywhere else in Houston. My husband and I decided to try it after a glowing recommendation and were not disappointed in the least. The way the meal was presented on the plate as well as the fabulous flavors impressed us both. The naan in particular is also the best I've had in town. The chef/owner treated us great and showed us that he puts a lot of care and freshness into his food on a daily basis. We will be back often and are going to tell everyone we know about this place.

MY REVIEW: We just visited for the first time and we will be back soon. Great authentic Indian food, very well presented. The menu was full of great sounding dishes so it was difficult to choose. I'm sure I could order something different every time and be impressed with it all. I had the Spinach kebabs and my wife had the tikka masala. Both were fantastic as was the beautifully presented naan. We're going to try it for take out some evening soon. In our area, it's so nice to have a truly great restaurant with an owner/chef that takes great pride in providing his guests with great food and genuine warmth. Don't change a thing!

MY REVIEW: I used to go to this location when it was Great W*raps. Then, you got mediocre formulaic fast food wrapped sandwiches, so it wasn't a surprise when it closed. I was intrigued, though, when the new restaurant going into the space reused the signage, and called themselves "Great W'kana". I was out today, and decided to stop by and see what they were about, and I am very pleased I did.
They have totally remodeled the place, although you can still see elements of the old business. However, they have fixed up the front entry, and laid some really nice flooring, adding to the upscale feeling. As stated in previous reviews, the chef/owner is actively involved in talking to the patrons, and is proud and more than willing to share the background of their dishes. Service was snappy, which kind of makes sense since I was the only customer there. But, the food was amazing.
I had the Kalonji Murgh Tikka lunch special. The presentation was very impressive, artfully arranged. The Tikka was flavored with onion seeds, and very flavorful without being overpowering. There was also some basmati rice with black lentils (very unique), an amazing daal with all kinds of veggies, a salad and some sublime mint chutney. They topped off the meal with some garlic naan, which I could hear and smell cooking long before it got to my table. All of the food was excellent, filling without being overwhelming. The total bill with tip was right around $15, so a little on the high end of lunch costs, but not oppressive. And the food was great so it was worth it.
When I asked about whether or not the dish was Northern Indian, the owner gave me a short history on the types of cooking in Northern and Southern India. I knew a lot about Indian food, but this was all new info. He mentioned that they were trying to do something different with their restaurant, and from this visit, I get what they're trying to do. I hope they make it, because it was a very enjoyable meal and experience. I highly recommend them!

MY REVIEW: Our dinner at Great W'kana was the best food I've had at a restaurant in Sugar Land in a very long time. Having never really had Indian food, we asked for help from the extremely gracious general manager and chef/owner. We had the chicken kebabs and butter chicken as well as the garlic naan and rosemary & olive oil naan. Everything was excellent! It was definitely more expensive than I was expecting, but the quality of the food and the customer service was well worth it for a date night.
