MY REVIEW: Vegan! Love this place. Inventive offerings and funky/hippie atmosphere. Have gone mostly for the Sunday brunch since I live on the other side of town. Sometimes the food is a little uneven but that's mostly when they're serving a big rush. Don't know what the negative reviews are talking about, the food is always good. The chocolate pancakes are deadly! Don't hesitate to try them out.

One downside is getting there with the construction going on right now.

MY REVIEW: Vegan is not the same as healthy.

The macrobiotic plate was not a lot of food, but the vegetables had been cooked in a lot of oil, so it had an unimaginable number of calories and an oily taste that left little room for the vegetables. I tasted no herbs or spices, Mexican or otherwise. I was also surprised at the portion size, as vegetables are not that expensive, especially root vegetables like carrots. The corn and spinach tamale was very good, but only sparsely flecked with spinach.

There was no table service except delivering the plates of food and the chips. I was given a glass and shown where the beverages were. Customers also have to fill and refill their own bowls of salsa. The chips tasted like deep-fried pita crisps, again a lot of oil.

MY REVIEW: The food is SO delicious!!! I still think I'm dreaming that I just ate at a vegan restaurant that serves Mexican food and it's the best food I've ever eaten!!! I just discovered this place (thanks to a b4-u-eat email). I plan to go back as often as I can. I had the Thursday Enchilada Special and took home 2 tamales for the next day. I can't wait to try everything else on the menu. The only weak point I can think of is the road construction on Fulton. I looked at the area on a GPS and found a way to get there with only crossing Fulton and not driving down Fulton. Believe me - the food is well worth a little inconvience like road construction.

MY REVIEW: Lemme just get this out of the way up front, I LOVED IT!!!

I just became vegan and although I live in Cypress - far away - we made the drive out to the seedy side of town to visit this place. My husband was afraid to get out of the car as it was night and it's not a very pretty part of Houston. We saw some reviews online that told us to be brave, and I'm glad we did!

We happened to show up on a "Dine and Documentary" night, and as such we got free tortilla soup. It was awesome.

We had the fried jalapeno poppers and guacamole with fresh chips to start. Superb on all counts. They have a dip that's vegan mayo with sriracha (rooster sauce). It was lovely!

I had the fried avocado tacos and my hubbs had the burritos with tomatillo sauce. The burritos were stuffed with greens and my husband didn't like them very much. I think with some creaminess they would have been better. We split our meals and he really liked the avocado tacos.

The drinks were lovely, the mason jar glasses made it feel like home. It's a quaint little spot with a very warm and home-like feel. I will definitely be back. :)

MY REVIEW: Strengths:

* Fresh, tasty food
* Friendly staff

Weaknesses:

* Can be easy to miss the smaller signs
* Road construction

Staci was really nice when I chatted with her - I tried the guacamole (fresh, chunky, perfect balance of tomatos, avacado, lime, salt) with fresh fried chips + the fried avacado taco (awesome - cornmeal breadding, crunchy fresh veggies on top) and the spinach and corn tamale.

I think the tamale would have been better with a sauce on top (this may have been an option on the menu that I missed - will try it next time), and the tamale, rice and beans needed a little additional seasoning (salt and pepper on the table worked just fine).

I was STUFFED for about $20 including tax and tip - a little surprising for one person, but I could have easily fed two for that if I wasn't so hungry!

MY REVIEW: I am not a vegetarian - but this place rocks! Who woulda thunk Mexican food could go without meat or cheese? I never did.

Stumbled into this quirky, groovy, hippie dive with a vegetarian friend in late July. Despite the battered decor (They were only open a for a few weeks) The food was and is amazing - and did I mention I am not a vegetarian?

When you go here think old school taqueria. Order at the counter, grab your table card and sit down. Self serve on most drinks - killer Aqua Frescas - whatever they found fresh that morning at the market.

The menu is small but it's also cheap and very good. My personal favorite is the Pupusa (sp?). Crispy on the outside with a spinach filling, covered in an amazing creamy sauce. with lots of crunchy vegetables on top.

I also like the fried avacado tacos. It's great but I think it's the tortillas that make it work - there's a little lady in the back making them fresh.

Don't be put off by the rough decor or the rough neighborhood. You'll get a nice casual greeting and great food. No, I'm never going to be a vegetarian but any foodie worth their salt has got to make a trip up there.

MY REVIEW: My wife is vegan and was excited about this place, so we paid a visit. The food genre presented here is Mexican food with vegan/gluten free ingredients. The restaurant is in a small rather run down building with little decor inside and very plain furnishings. It is clear that they don't have the income yet to spruce up the space, but they were very pleasant and attentive people.

Unfortunately, the food we ordered wasn't very good. We had the fried avocado taco and the spinach enchiladas in tomatillo sauce. Both came with brown rice and frijoles. The sauce tasted strange with a lemony sweetness and an unattractive grayish green color. Everything was edible, but I guess the main word for it would be bland. The taste of the dishes didn't channel Mexico very well. We were hoping for fresh looking and fresh tasting Mexican food, but it did not deliver. My wife's plate was garnished with a beyond wilted piece of cilantro that was very off-putting.

Nice concept and nice people, but not successfully executed. We won't be going back.
