Sinfull Bakery
4530 Beechnut St, Houston, Texas 77096
MY REVIEW: It's important to note that the address listed is not a storefront but the wonderful baker's house. You can order and pick-up there but you can't just drop in and expect to browse her selection. However, you can browse her fresh-baked goods around town at virtually every farmer's market in the city. What's great is how she has samples of every thing ready to go front and center.
As a vegan one of the holy grails for me has been searching for a perfect kolache. I grew up in rural Fort Bend county where there were plenty of Czech immigrants with fantastic kolaches, if you knew who to ask.
Last Saturday at the Urban Harvest Farmer's market off Richmond I bought one of her cream cheese and strawberry kolaches. I actually asked, "Is this really vegan?" She told that she used vegan cream cheese, which I'm a big fan of. Anyways, this was the best kolache I've had in years. I've had non-vegan kolaches that were much worse. The dough was perfect, not too dry, not dripping with fat. My only complaint was that the filling wasn't sweet enough. It's very normal for vegans to avoid processed sugars but her other baked goods all contain them so I figure, why not go all the way with the filling?
I've also had her banana bread mini loaf and my wife bought one of the ginormous 1.5 lb cinnamon rolls which was just plain awesome. The double chocolate and chocolate cookies are also delicious.
Even if you're not Vegan give Sinfull a try, you won't be disappointed!
