Azuma on the Lake

MY REVIEW: I love this place, I love the Happy Hour is a bomb except that it is at the BAR only (eventhough that the dining area is not full). On thurs the specialty sushi was HALF the price, we ordered the Surf and Turf, koi roll and crunchy scallop those were awesome. You can really tell that it was a quality food. The place was so nice and the best customer service. I am going back again... love it.

MY REVIEW: I enjoyed the food however no one told us we had to sit in the bar hour to get the happy hour prices. The restaurant was empty but no one ever explained that. When we brought it to the attention of the hostess she just said 'oh sorry, we will make sure to say that on Facebook'. Based on this experience we will stick to some of our other Sugar Land Suishi favorites. Customer service is key!!!

MY REVIEW: Dropped in last night on a whim. The place is visually very nice, they obviously spent some money building the image. It was a bit too sultry for al fresco dining but as previously posted this will be a go-to location in October. The sunset, even through glass, added much to the experience.
The sushi was about as expected. Upper middle in terms of quality, middle middle in terms of artistic presentation. I watched one chef struggle to put together an aji display for I bet 15 minutes. He just couldn't quite pull it off.
The sake by the bottle deal is my preference. My bomb years are probably behind me so selecting a nice daiginjo is really what I'm after. They don't bargain price by any stretch but they did offer a 300ml karatamba for $15 and that is very tolerable. As you went up the price points the retail multiple seemed to grow. I guess they figure if you're willing to spring for a $100 bottle then you'll probably go for the same thing at $145 and I bet they're right about that. The downside, and they could fix this easily, is that the bottle was delivered without some stylish method to keep it chilled. As much effort and expense as they put into the visual appeal of the place that surprised me some.
All in all it was a fair sushi experience especially for a Chinese run establishment and come fall that patio will be very inviting.

MY REVIEW: If you've eaten at Azuma's other 2 locations, don't expect to find all your favorites at this branch. Us suburb dwellers get a comparatively limited menu. On the evening I dined there, the waitress announced that they were out of 4 items including the gyoza, further limiting the options. Instead of offering individual portions of saki, they only sell full bottles ranging from the high 20$ to over 145$. No saki bombs y'all.
The location and restaurant decor are absolutely beautiful. Reservations were honored on time. Our waitress was very attentive and our water/tea glasses were always filled. Vegetarian combo rolls were perfect as was a sashimi combo. Many of the rolls have potential to be unhealthy with ingredients that combine tempura and mayonnaise.
Try the Azuma Chicken. Its served in an iron pot over lit sterno and has a mixture of meat, vegetables and broth.
I look forward to eating here again. Should be even nicer when the weather gets cooler and I can enjoy the beautiful lake view outdoors.
