MY REVIEW: We selected Udipi Cafe in Sugarland to cater to a back-yard party at our residence . The items served included South Indian specialities like Dosas, vadas , idlis and North Indian items like puris, channa and pulao and gulab jamuns for dessert . The dosas and puris were prepared and served hot on site - and provided a perfect accompaniment to the chill of an early winter night . All the items were very tasty and appreciated by the guests . The service was excellent with the owner being physically present and taking personal interest and care to ensure the set-up was on time and that everything was working fine . Overall the party went off very well thanks to the perfect execution by Udipi Cafe .

MY REVIEW: Well-seasoned vegetarian Indian fare served in pleasant surroundings for about $10. I got there 30 minutes after they opened and for the next 45 minutes only 3-4 tables were occupied. So all the buffet offerings were fresh and plentiful. They bring freshly made vegetable & potato dosas to each table. Good service, good food.

MY REVIEW: First time I visited Udipi on Nov 22, 2010 for the lunch. Lunch items were very delicious and service was excellent. I was with my friend and we both were happy & satisfied.

So as I was planning for the surprise B'day party, I Booked Udipi to come to my place and cook & provide service for my all guests. Yes, they came as promised on time and served us hot Dosa, Uthapam, Idli, vada & khir-gulabjamboo. Provided more than enough chattni etc. Like I said above food was delicious & service was on the mark. I could see that all the guests were enjoying. Many guests were inquiring about arrangements & price for their future similar parties. Almost all guests gave positive input about food & service.

Yes, we were happy, satisfied and money spent was worth. I would highly recommend to those who are planning to have back yard hot-food-parties. Go for it. Best wishes to Udipi and salute for the good work.

MY REVIEW: Udipi Cafe in Sugarland is a MUST for those who enjoy Indian food. Absolutely outstanding fare, wonderful presentation and atmosphere and the service is good too. Don't begin to let the vegetarian label fool you. You'll never miss it, sincerely (and I would know, I'm a carnivore).

MY REVIEW: Great food, charming and friendly service. I have been for lunch several times and keep coming back to try the next dish. There is such a diverse range of dishes, seemingly home cooked. Rice, vegetables, paneers and other ingredients flavored with masalas. Even meat-eaters like me are completely satisfied with this well prepared vegetarian fare. Well done!

MY REVIEW: The second I walked in, the aroma of the food told me I was in for a treat.

As a carnivore, my skepticism over vegetarian food being good enough to replace meat was quickly dashed. We had a large event in the banquet room. The buffet, from the appetizers to the entrees, was flavorful and satisfying. I now know I can get great food without having to rip into animal flesh! :D

MY REVIEW: Strong Points : Great Service... from people who serve you to the owners... Just a great job!

So we had a 1st b'day party for my 1st baby... We were so new to arranging a day like that - all we knew was - It had to be a good place, great food, and great decor... We are so happy we chose Udipi Cafe Sugarland.

To tell you, the food was really great, the Staff was very very helpful. Esp, the owners who were so involved in setting the place with us and getting involved by serving the guest and making sure our party was a hit. All my guests, were happy about the event. I am so glad we did it there... its a great choice for an indian family occassions or parties.

MY REVIEW: Sadly this is NOT the Same Udipi we used to like. It is new owners and a new cook. The food is not as good. In fact, it is just plain bad. Overcooked. The buffet items are dried out and inedible. When we complained, they brought out new food, but it was only mediocre compared to the old Udipi. THere are several other Indian restaurants in the area that are much better.

The last time we were there, the place was empty on a Saturday at 1:30 PM, typically a popular time for Indian Buffets. THe food was so dried out and bad that we left (after paying) and went to a different restaurant to finish eating.

MY REVIEW: This was our first experience with Indian food and it was fabulous. We are a vegan family and the staff was able to help us avoid those items that were not vegan or willing to make something vegan.

Since this was our first visit we had a lot of questions and everyone was able to answer them and not make us feel stupid. The woman owner was especially helpful and checked on us often to make sure we were happy.

My favorites were the donuts and curries but I will return for the dosas - they were to die for especially the tomato.

MY REVIEW: I arrived on a weekday at 1:15PM for the lunch buffet which is available until 3PM.

Sadly, most of the food bins contained dried out items. Some of the food even had a skin crust over the top. Some bins had been scraped to the bottom. I saw waiters adding water and mixing it with the food but not adding or replacing anything fresh.

There were not many tables occupied and maybe it's not cost effective to replace the food after the lunch rush hour.

I am sorry for such a negative review but I want to let customers know to come early for the fresh and hot food on the lunch buffet if they plan on eating here.

MY REVIEW: Both the new owner and new location (just a few steps away from the previous one) are very pleasant, as are the staff. They are always ready to explain new buffet items. The place is always sparkling clean.

We think the food has improved under the new ownership (if that's possible - it was great before, too !). A great variety on the buffet with every item being very fresh and oh so tasty !

Their rava masala dosas are the best in town ! Tasty, thin and crispy.

Udipi was our favorite Indian vegetarian restaurant before it changed ownership, and it definitely still is.
