Lighthouse Buffet
3 Kemah Boardwalk, Kemah, Texas 77565
MY REVIEW: We went the buffet on New Year's Eve only because the wait for other places was an hour. It was our first time in Kema, so we weren't familiar with this place but the menu looked okay and the wait was less than an hour. Long story short, the food was delicious!!! There was a nice selection of foods(almost too much!) and everything was well seasoned and fresh. We talked about the food for rest of the night and we were planning to go back for lunch the next day but we ran out of time. We live in Houston and are definitely planning to go back to Kema just to eat here!
FYI: The only negative comment is that the waiter was extremely slow and we had to flag him down for our bill, but it was New Year's Eve so I won't hold it against them...

MY REVIEW: We got a gift card which covered any restaurant on the Kemah Boardwalk. I looked up the choices and Lighthouse Buffet was not on it. So we made our choice and upon walking to it saw the buffet sign. Hmmm this was not listed on the restaurant list but I love buffets. So we went. The selection was much smaller then any average buffet but I could not say anything wrong with the quality. What was there was all very good. Service was good too. Price was a tad high but so is every single Boardwalk restaurant. Yea, I'd go back.

MY REVIEW: We planned to meet some friends at the Lighthouse Buffet for lunch. I called and checked to see what days they were open and the recording said that the winter schedule was closed on Monday's and Tuesday's and open Wednesday thru Sunday for lunch and dinner. When we all arrived at the Lighthouse Buffet on wednesday, we found a sign that said they were closed and to use another Boardwalk restaurant. Neither their website nor their phone recording with the days and hours of operation mentioned this closing. Thank you for a wasted trip. Luckily, we were in the Kemah area, (almost unlimited restaurant choices). We elected to patronize a more accomodating restaurant NOT at the boardwalk.

MY REVIEW: I had heard good and bad reviews so my wife and I decided to go and form our own opinion. We arrived on a Friday night at 6:30 and there was only one other couple seated. After waiting five minutes for our waitress to finish talking with the other four waitresses at the bar, we placed our drink orders and made our way to the buffett.
We were very disappointed with the spread. For the price we were about to pay, the assortment of entrees was parce. Most of the choices were fried, safe food that your kids would eat. The other half were an assortment of Meats, Poutry and Fish. The only choice that was above G*olden Coral or R*yan's flair was the Crawfish Ettouffe which was great. But honestly, I do not think it was worth the price of admission for one above average entree. The fish was not fresh and tasted like once frozen planks. The desserts were all frozen cakes that were reheated. The rolls were also once frozen and reheated... and a bit dry, borderlining on stale.
The buffet was set up like a typical buffet. There was a row of food on one side of the heated table and there was a row of food on the other side of the heated table. The problem is that you can only stand on one side and reaching the other side is difficult and VERY hot.
I would suggest the following for this restaurant. Choice either Fried Chicken or BBQ Chicken and replace one of the slots with Cocoanut Shrimp. There is no need for these two chicken choices at the price you ask. Add more Sushi or take out the two California Rolls you offer. It makes no sense to offer sushi but only offer California Rolls. I'd just take it out and add more shrimp. Bake your rolls and do not offer up the cold, stale rolls because this really made me wish I had just gone to R*yans.
Bottom line is that these guys need a better spread for the money we pay. Add a LOT of shrimp and Seafood choices. Add fresher desserts. Work with the wait staff and inform them that the customers are much more interesting than the stories they are tell amongst themselves...
Oh yeah, and the Snow Crabs? You have to pay an extra $7.99 for a pound. They are NOT on the buffet!
We never saw our waitress during the course of the meal. She must have shown up becuase our plates were gone when we returned from one trip to the buffett area. We finished and sat for 15 minutes before I flagged down the manager and asked if we can get our bill because we have not seen our waitress the entire meal. A buffet without tea refills is tough to swallow...
That was our one and final trip to Lighthouse Buffet unless they upgrade their menu.

Sushi, gourmet soups (crab and corn chowder is AWESOME!!) And save room for desserts YUMMMM YUMMMMM that Bread pudding is heavenly!!!! I will definetly be back! MY REVIEW: This was probably the worst seafood buffet I have ever eaten. The choices were poor. I could have gone to G*olden Corral and had a better experience. Most of the food was frozen and packaged. The staff was slow. If you are planning to eat here, take a look before you spend your money.

MY REVIEW: I was very, very disappointed in the selection of food for the price! Talapia?? Good fish but not what you would expect from reading the menu outside. Frozen, tiny, TV Dinner battered shrimp was not what I was expecting. Pasta? I do not consider Ziti and Marinara sauce to constitue "Italian Food". There was no Mexican Food. For the price there should have been more selection.
I was also a bit shocked when we got the bill and found out a gratuity had been added of $25. There were six adults and two older children at our table. No one asked for anything special. Our bill was $183 and not worth it one bit! The gratuity really angered me. The waiters would have gotten a healthy tip anyway but to add it into the meal was not right. I don't think pouring a few glasses of tea and getting a couple of soft drinks would constitute a $25 tip.
I will not go back and I thought something was wrong when there were few people inside and no waiting for a table. Now I know why.

MY REVIEW: I am very surprised that Kemah would have this type of restaurant. The only strong point I can say is the manager was very friendly and attentive. The food was just one step up from Gold@n C@rral. I went in with an open mind. The food was not up to standard. I realize you get what you pay for, but I thought the 19.00 cost was high for food of this low quality. The fish was fishy, mac and cheese was grainy, the fried popcorn shrimp were frozen. I guess this place is great for someone who likes to eat quantity of substandard cuisines. Go for it, but the cost is high for this crap. I have no problem paying for quality. We asked the waiter for more napkins, and we got towels out of the bathroom. I wish I was kidding... This restaurant is such a waste of space... The view is really nice... I am embarrassed for Tilllman.

MY REVIEW: The quality of the food is top notch. I concentrated on the fresh fish selections and was not disappointed -- very flavorful. The buffet area may seem to be on the small side (as compared to a place like G*olden Corral) but don't be disheartened. They give you plenty of selections (and a wide variety). It's good that there's not a huge selection because they concentrate on the quality of what they do offer on a particular day. Besides going for 2nds on the great fish selections I also tried their grill steak which was also very well prepared. There's a decent salad bar area and the desserts are also top notch.
The staff was attentive (probably too attentive in that at least 3 people kept coming up to me asking if everything was OK but that's to be expected with a place that just opened). My only negative thought about the place is that they tried to sell the customer on the Landry's Club Card when you were dining but at least they didn't push it too hard.
