The M&M Restaurant & Bar

MY REVIEW: After hearing many good things, finally decided to try this place out. We were seated quickly without reservation. The service was attentive and friendly, but the food was outstanding. The menu offered a variety of fresh seafoods, pastas, and steaks. I ordered the snapper special that evening - A filet of snapper topped with pico de gallo, avocado, melted cheese and real jumbo crab meat. My companion ordered the ribeye, tender and full of flavor. For dessert we opted for the bread pudding with bourbon sauce- a great choice! We will definitely be back.

MY REVIEW: Pos: We (2) arrived on Sat night, around 7:30 w/o reservations, got seated right away. Great atmos. nice lighting. Beer and glass were cold. We had app: Cheese n Meat Board of smoked duck, prosciutto and and heavy blue, salad: M&M w/walnuts was really good w/fresh greens, main: chx fried pork chops (THE MOST tender PC I've ever eaten!) and then opted for a free Key lime pie that was really creamy and tart.
Cons: service was slow, Cheese n Meat Board was served w/wrapped crackers bc bread was "running late" (hold the app next time) we ordered the special, fried softshell crab, and were told AFTER WE FINISHED THE SALAD that they ran out so we opted for the PCs. Thats were we got the free Key Lime pie.
Anyway, we heard great things but left with average satisfaction.

MY REVIEW: After reading a wonderful review from the Houston newspaper, we decided to try out the M&M. We were going to be on the island anyway for a previous reason, so we thought to take this oppertunity to visit this place. We were seated quickly and within 20 minutes the place was very active from arriving guests. The sun was setting and we asked if the window blinds could be closed a bit so that I didn't have the sun blinding me. Then we asked again and again, finally, I got up and partitally shut them; Stike One.
In the meantime, we placed our wine order, and waited and waited and finally it arrived. I should note, we were in absolutly no rush, but C'mon twenty minutes. We ordered our appetizers and spent the next forty minutes talking and viewing the other guests. We ordered another glass of wine, still no food. What's going on here? Finally, it did arrive, . . . and it was incorrect. O.K. were really hungry now, so we didn't want to wait any longer and thought it wise to order our entree now as well, who knows how long that would set the kitchen back. By now the place was busy and our entree was MIA. After ANOTHER forty minutes the entree's DID arrive, . . . and it was good, not great, . . .good.
M&M needs some serious work on their service and operational qualities. We MAY try it again in a few months, hopefully it will have the bugs worked out by then. I'd really like that because I'm originally from the island and always like others to see what we can really do if given the chance.
