MY REVIEW: Yesterday was our first visit and we really enjoyed the food! We had gumbo, the trout special, and a greek salad. We loved that you could walk up and order and then have a seat. We will definitely be back. Good prices and great food!

When i fill my coke i decided since i will have to eat in a hurry I better fill on of those little paper cups up for my ketchup when the guy who brought me my food saw i had fill got my own ketchup he looked at me and said no mam you cant have that its for customers only i put your ketchup in the bag did i mention it was only two packets. Then he threw it away. I couldnt believe what had just happened I thought really your going to loose a customer over freaken ketchup so no I would not be returning Its all behind the attitued

MY REVIEW: Close and convenient to my house so we go there once or twice a month. We've always had quick and courteous service. You order your food at the counter, serve your own drink and then have a seat. They bring your food when it is ready. I've never ordered anything here that didn't taste good. My favorite is the mixed seafood grill. They use the fish of the day so it is always a little different. My teen loves the dirty rice and my husband likes the etoufee. The restaurant is always clean and the prices are reasonable for seafood.
What prompted me to write the review tonight? We went in, unknowingly 30 minutes after closing, tonight. The cashier asked if we could pay in cash and took our order. When I asked why they weren't using the computers, he hesitated but told me they'd closed 30 minutes ago and everything was shut down(there were still 2 other diners eating). He said because we are "regulars" they wanted to take care of us. They proceeded to fire up the grill and cook our order for us and didn't do a thing to make us feel like we needed to hurry or that we were inconveniencing them. You just don't get service like that very often anymore. Visit them if you want good cajun seafood in a relaxed, friendly, atmosphere.

MY REVIEW: This is where we go every Friday night! It gets pretty packed, so that shows how good their business is. My friends and I come here for that famous blackened seafood fondue! It's crazy GOOD! and don't get me started on how delicious their shrimp brochettes are. Another bonus is their happy hour deals. 2 bucks draft beers..that's not even the best part. They have Saint Arnold for 2 dollars and it's happy hour all day. I've been coming to this seafood restaurant since they opened. It is money well spent. Event though it's not waiter service, I always tend to leave 5 bucks as tip. It's that good of a place.

MY REVIEW: This is a very clean, small restaurant. I come here with my husband when we want some good homecooking! We always get the catfish, gator, and shrimp combo with cole slaw and jalepeno cornbread. Customer service is always great, and we haven't came across any troubles with our food. We'd eat here everyday if we could!

MY REVIEW: Our first visit to this new facility. We were greeted right away at the door and then seated. We ordered mozzarella sticks which came out promptly, hot, and homemade! They were delicious! Then our entrees came out... I ordered a oyster po-boy that was good but nothing over the top. My fiance's ordered shrimp brochettes which came out as some kind of frozen shrimp concoction that had been thrown on the grill top. It was so horrible neither of us could eat it! Our server never even asked if there was something wrong when we sent back an entire place of food! All of the servers looked to be around 18-22 with no manager in sight! They mostly just kind of wandered around like they had no training or supervision what so ever! If you want a mediocre experience this is the place to go. Started off good and just went down hill. This was our first and probably last visit.

MY REVIEW: We lived in New Orleans for many years, and I'm a native Louisianian, so I know something about seafood. My husband and I ordered the boudain balls, which came out hot, fresh, and tasty. They came served with fries, which were also hot and good. For our entree's, I had a double combo of gator and oysters, with cole slaw on the side, plus a huge piece of jalapeno bread. My husband had the double combo but with catfish and oysters. He loved his catfish so much, he put a large piece on my plate to taste it. Everything was hot, fried just right, and tasted fresh, with great flavor. My husband had dirty rice for one of his sides, and raved it was the real thing. Our waitress was attentive, sweet, and knowledgeable. Over all, a great experience, and we'll be back!

MY REVIEW: Very disappointing. Way too much dressing on the salad, shrimp portions very small, and taste just not good enough. I ordered seafood gumbo but it should have been named okra gumbo (way too much of it!).
It is difficult to find a good seafood place but this will still be my family's one and only visit.

MY REVIEW: The strong point was the location. the service was really bad and food was not even hot. I always give 2 chances, maybe they just had a really bad night.

MY REVIEW: This was our first visit to the Cypress location, after having been to the Jones Road location. We were hesitant to go to Cypress after reading all the less-than-wonderful reviews of the new location, but decided to form our own opinion. And, I'm glad we did!
The restaurant is a little different than the other location. The original is a place where you order and pay at the counter, and then they bring your food to you. This is a sit down restaurant, but it's not entirely obvious when you walk in. We were seated at a simple table - nothing fancy about the restaurant. There was loud, but fun, Cajun music playing the whole time, too.
We started with a cup of gumbo, and it was pretty good. Not the best I've had, but not the worst. I ordered it with just a little rice, but should have let them put as much rice as they wanted. Everyone who tried it liked it.
As for entrees, everyone liked theirs. Two had fried catfish and fries, one fried shrimp, and one snapper sassafras special. Everyone thought that the food was at least as good as the Jones Road location - the snapper special was especially good!
The service was fine, but I also got the impression that if they were at full capacity, they might have issues keeping up. We all liked it, and will certainly go back again!

MY REVIEW: I have been to the skinner location twice, and have yet to get my food. The first time, about a month ago, we were seated, 3 of us, and waited 15 min for them to come and clean the table, and another 10 min went by and nobody ever came back for a drink order, so we left. Went by again last night, and waited 20 min before we got a drink, then ordered Gumbo that when it finally arrived, 20 min later, it was luke warm and no taste. Waited another 25 min for our food order, and the waiter says it should not be much longer. I was tiring of waiting so we left to another restaurant in the area, and had our food in 17 min. This place is at a good location, but service is TERRIBLE and not very clean.

MY REVIEW: We had a bad experience at the Skinner/290 location. There were four of us and not one of us enjoyed the food. The gumbo had to go back because it was lukewarm (it was 27 degrees outside and we wanted hot gumbo!!) When I got my bowl of gumbo back (seafood gumbo) I had one piece of shrimp and no other seafood. The fish was not good, and my plate of shrimp was overcooked to the point where it tasted like yesterday's heated over. I was very disappointed; we like the one at Jones and have always enjoyed it. We won't go back to the new location.
(no heat either!! It was freezing cold and no one in the restaurant took their jackets off.)

MY REVIEW: My husband and I tried this place on Skinner Rd and 290 just this past weekend. Pleasantly enough its just right around the corner from us, so location for us is definitely a plus. Hearing great things about this restaurant from coworkers and friends, our expectations were set pretty high. And to our delight, the food was absolutely AMAZING!
A recommendation from a coworker suggested I should try the Pasta Sassafras. I'm now suggesting everyone to try this delicious dish! I cannot describe how this dish tasted for words will not do this dish justice. Granted I do love Olive G*arden's Chicken Alfredo, but the Pasta Sassafras just knocks that dish out of the park! on top of that, the dish is cheaper too!
My husband wanted to try the etouffee. He ordered the half portion with crawfish and dirty rice for a fair price, and when the plate came out, he felt like he underpaid for the dish! He only ordered the half portion. I can only imagine how much they give on a full order. With the large portion my husband got, the dish also did not disappoint. He told me specifically that it was THE BEST etouffee he has ever tasted. That means alot coming from him since he is a very picky eater.
I sure hope this place does well because my husband and I have found our new favorite restaurant!

MY REVIEW: I'm a regular at the original Sassafras on Jones so this is my first time to the new location. The food was good, but it may just be mebut I prefer the original location better. Either way I always leave with a happy stomach.
