La Magia Cafe & Pizza (CLOSED)

 3699 Hwy 6 Sugar Land

3699 Hwy 6, Sugar Land, Texas

MY REVIEW: First time visit (on a busy Saturday night); we had a pre-paid voucher from Living Social. Was initially apprehensive since a sign on the door said they no longer honored Groupon. Since Groupon never expire I was concerned and rightfully so. Our voucher was for a pre-paid meal "(regularly $31) for a medium gourmet pizza, two side salads, and two non-alcoholic drinks during business hours, except Friday nights. From specialty pizzas like the Greek and the Manhattan -- featuring fresh pepperoni, mushrooms, black and green olives, tomatoes and garlic sauce -- to your choice of house, Greek, Caesar, or antipasto salad, La Magia has the perfect blend of the classics and innovative concoctions."

I wanted to quote the Deal to emphasize that we were to have our choice of side salads; house, Greek, Caesar, or antipasto salad. Medium Pizzas are $16, Greek side salads are $ each and flavored teas are $2.50 each for a $31 total for two (as advertised). They refused to give anything but the house salad. OK so they have issues with discount deals (Groupon and LivingSocial) but how is the food and the service?

There were two couples receiving/paying their bills when we arrived so for a while we were the only ones there. The house salad was very plain iceberg lettuce, with a few thin carrot and onion slices and ONE grape tomato cut in half with a side serving of a tasteless vinaigrette. The Supreme Pizza was average at best. About halfway thru our pizza two other couples walked in (a total of 5 tables between 6:30 and 7:30 pm on a Saturday). We had to call for and ask for tea refills.

Bottom Line: Very plain (not worth paying for! – a single grape tomato cut in half!?) house salad and average pizza with very poor service. For 70 cents per person they alienated first time visitors. They allowed us to use $28 of our $31 pre-paid voucher (we actually had to pay them $2). First Groupon and now LivingSocial; if they will not honor their commitments why return?

MY REVIEW: My husband and I visit La Magia every couple of weeks. We love the food. Just last week I used his catering service for a party at my home. He did a wonderful job and everyone enjoyed the food. This place is great

MY REVIEW: Very good, cozy Italian restaurant. They had entrees for my husband and I, my son enjoyed the pizza and my daughter had the wing appetizer for her meal and we all thought it was wonderful. Service was excellent and as an added bonus they accept restaurant.com gift certificates.

MY REVIEW: We live in the area and decided to try La Magia after seeing it featured. This is a great neighborhood restaurant which proves that good Italian food can be had reasoably. They have two gnocchi dishes so I am a hapy camper. My wife had the Chicken Marsala. Great flavors and the left lovers were just as good tonight.

They have weekend specials on a clearly lite board but I did not see it and the server did not point it out. But that is a nit. We did not sample the dessert menu. We were too full. They also are open on Sundays which is a plus for us. I am Italian, the first of my family born in this great country and this place is a keeper.

MY REVIEW: They have the most wonderful Greek Salad - I think it is the best that I have ever had. The servuce is great and Ray, the owner is most attentive. It is a great neighborhood pizza cafe - and a great destination restaurant, especially for the pizza!!!

MY REVIEW: Great food. We sampled many items on the menu and everything was great. Service was a little off, but the food was served hot and fresh, so we cannot complain. Totally enjoyable, will go back often.

MY REVIEW: First time had the pizza...really fantastic crust. You can tell it's home-made and baked in a brick oven. Next time had the Italian sub. Again, good food, really fairly priced. Love the atmosphere. We needed this kind of mom-and-pop, wine with your pasta/beer with your pizza, casual-but-nice Italian restaurant. Great place for a date night or girl's night out.

MY REVIEW: ok...went back and had the manhattan pizza. it was excellent. noticed on their blackboard that they also do some more esoteric specials (they had tilapia and veal the night we were there), so i guess we have to go back.

anyway-it's a really nice little mom and pop restaurant, the owners are obviously doing it right. i just hope they're supported.

oh...they deliver now.

MY REVIEW: We've use them for delivery...they are one of the few places in the area that will deliver both italian and along some american fare offerings. Spaghetti and pizza were good. I actually had a cheeseburger and fries once...was served in a hoagie style roll, but it was pretty good! Again, when it comes to delivery...it's a very solid choice, especially if you want something other than pizza.

MY REVIEW: My family really enjoyed this cozy resturant. The atmosphere is really good for such a little resturant, my daughter has been a great fan of the lasagnia every time we go there. I really enjoyed the pizza with the Zigenbock draft beer, the aroma combined is truly intoxicating. Loved the experience, Thanks.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I each ordered pizza and were wonderfully surprised how delicious they both were. The crust is amazing - very light and there were generous amounts of each of the toppings that we ordered. We also got a Greek salad which was equally good. We're looking forward to returning and trying more of their creations.

MY REVIEW: my girlfriend and i split the meatball sub- it was excellent. the pizza looked great, the owner was very nice, they had a decent little crowd... we plan on going back. it looks like a nice, quiet little place to sit down, have a pizza and a couple of beers- they even had the cowboys/saints game on. i hope they make a go of it- this is precisely what sugar land needs more of: good quality, non-chain sit-down restaurants.
