Cool Runnings Jamaican Grill

MY REVIEW: I was born and raised in Jamaica. I lived in Miami for a couple decades. Miami, gastronomically speaking, is Jamaica's other half. The Jamaican restaurants are run by Jamaicans from Jamaica.

Cool Runnings takes me back to Jamaica every time!! I have tried several Jamaican restaurants around Houston searching for what my taste buds are used to. I search no more. :)

The jerk chicken understandably is not quite authentic. But pretty damn close!

MY REVIEW: I moved down to Houston from the heart of Jamaica in America (Brooklyn NY). I was very disappointed with the so called Jamaican restaurants in Houston area until I discovered Cool Running...their food is one of the reasons Houston felt a little like home. The jerk chicken, curry goat, oxtail and everything thing on the menu is great. I love this place.... Big up guys.... Great food, great music and good people.....I am going this morning to get porridge for breakfast..

MY REVIEW: I LOVE this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HANDS down the BEST. The surrounding area isnt the best but THE FOOD IS AWESOME. R*eggie Hut is down the street from my house and I've had it but it wasnt good. DEFINETLY not worth the price.

@ Cool Running i ordered Curry Chicken, brown rice steamed veggies... It was so good i came back two days later. The meat was falling off the BONE!!!!

SO tender so Juicy, jus full of flavor!!!!

MY REVIEW: Strongs points: food and staff

Weak points: under rated

This is the best kept secret in Houston. The food is THE ABSOLUTE BEST in Houston. The staff is very sweet and knowledgeable. The atmosphere and the energy is very fun.

MY REVIEW: Food is excellent... I have traveled the world and been to many islands including jaimaca... This is the real thing... I have been there many times and i have tried almost everything on the menu. And i still cant get enough.... The best part, the portions are nice and hearty!!!

MY REVIEW: The food was exceptional. I had the coconut curry shrimp. It was the best I've ever had...anywhere! My friend had the curry chicken with rice & peas covered with an oxtail gravy. There are no words to describe how good it was. Although the food was great, the customer service was even better. The owner and staff were beyond friendly and helpful. The gentleman that actually cooked our food took the time to ask if we were pleased with our meal. I was impressed by that. You can't get that kind of service everywhere in this city. There is a lovely dining area in the restaurant as well. I will definitely return soon.

MY REVIEW: The food is awesome!!!! It's the most authentic Island food in Houston. The curried chicken is my favorite. A close second would be the jerk chicken. You should try it since they've opened up their dining room.

MY REVIEW: The place is small, only 2 tables but I understand they are expanding. The reggae will have you moving in time to the beat and the staff is friendly and helpful. I had chicken stew and wanted to try something besides rice. When I told the waitress I wanted the bananas, dumpling and yam, she tried to explain that it probably wasn't what I thought it would be and maybe I would want to go with something else. I told her that my theory is try it, if you don't like it there's always M*cDonalds. Let me tell you I'm in love with those dumplings. I took home leftovers since the portions are so big along with a veggie patty (again really good). I highly recommend this place, if you want to walk out with a full stomach and a smile on your face.

MY REVIEW: I used to know Cool Runnings as just a catering business that would be at certain caribbean events. Now they have a spot on W. Belfort and I'll never go hungry again! The food is delicious and authentic. The kitchen is open, so you can watch your food being made. The cooks are clean and the staff is personable. My favorite is the Curry Chicken Roti. If you haven't had it, try it. It always takes me two rounds to finish it. Love it. Love it. Love it.

MY REVIEW: They had great jerk chicken, great cabbage, the rice and peas were okay, and the pattie was good. I like my pattie greasier, but it was still good. They have some Carribean drinks, also. They gave me enough food for two meals and I'm a big ole guy. They had some great music playing, too. They only have two tables inside, so it seemed more like a take out joint, which is right up my alley. You could eat inside if you chose, though. It was very clean inside. I will continue to eat there, and recommend it to others.
