MY REVIEW: As Mexican buffets go, this wasn't bad. But I want to go back and order from the menu. I remember coming here 3-4 times in the early to mid 80s before there was a Mexican joint on every corner. It was good, but then other places popped up closer to home. So I'm counting this as my 1st visit because of the 25 year absence.
Normally I steer away from Mexican buffets, prefering my Tex Mex on a hot plate that has just come from under a broiler. However, Benito's manages to pull off a pretty good buffet version of Tex Mex, with a few exceptions: tamale was awful; taco shell was stale and meat was bland. However, cheese enchiladas were good, as was stuffed bell peppers; refried beans and rice were excellent; ditto for a beef stew with potatoes and seeded jalapenos.
Overall, a good buffet at a good price ($7.50). This place has that certain feel that only hole-in-the-wall joints can acheive. I'm glad I finally made it back to Benito's and look forward to returning to order from the menu.
