MY REVIEW: We tried them in early May and the food was great. The service was terrible but they explained the cook had just quit and they were doing the best they could.

My big complaint is that I have tried returning three more times and they are always closed. They announced evening hours all summer yet they are always closed when we stop by. I called and the owner said they lost ANOTHER cook and had to close early but that they would resume the evening hours next week. Well, as of yesterday they are still closed in the evening. I give up and will stick with that little diner down the street.

MY REVIEW: When I heard the show Restaurant Impossible was coming to this trite restaurant I decided to check it out. The food was surprisingly good, but the boring environment was a little depressing and brought down the overall experience. Other than the decor I was a little taken back to why this business wasn't more profitable, but figured it was because the place was only open in the mornings and was missing out on dinner service. I decided to wait to return to the Pelican Grill until a day before the show aired to see what transformations have been made since I figured the change to the staff and menu would take a month or two to perfect. I traveled to the Pelican Grill last night for their new dinner service and let me say this will be a restaurant to visit for years to come. The new menu items that are served for the dinner service (they have a different menu for breakfast/lunch and dinner service from what I was told) were to die for! The presentation was flawless and the taste of the food matched the appearance. My friends and I started off with an order of the fried pickles and the buffalo oysters and both were delectable. For my entre I had the full rack of ribs, and they were worth every penny. From what the owners were telling me, it took them a couple months to implement the changes around the restaurant but in my opinion they have perfected it. I live close to Downtown Houston, but after eating at the Pelican Grill last night I will be sure to return every week for their new dinner service and pop in on the weekends for the classic breakfast and lunch. I wish all the best to this kind and hardworking family, and suggest everyone try the new and improved Pelican Grill. I'm sure it will be a mainstay for dining for years to come.

P.S. Best burgers I’ve had since moving to Houston a few years ago, but I know everyone knew that.

MY REVIEW: I find it hard to believe that after the place was featured on the TV show Restaurant Impossible, no reviews have been posted. Well, the place got a total remodel, but I think that it lost the charm that it had. I like the addition of the counter, but a good cleaning and paint job could have brought the place to respectability. If the owner was after untold publicity, well he got it. If he was after changing the 'feel' of the place, he got that too. As for the food. I'm a breakfast person there, and I went AFTER the remodel ( two days later). My pancakes were not as good, and the service was, again, lacking. You would think the owner would have extra staff on hand to handle the business, but not to be. How RI selected this place to be redone will always remain a mystery to me. Perhaps the taping of the actual show is more interesting than what happened to the food and certainly the remodel.

MY REVIEW: Tried this place a couple of times since it's on the way to the marina. Everything is so greasy! We stopped for breakfast one day and the hashbrowns were so greasy it actually squirted in you mouth when you chewed. Eggs had grease pooled around them. Bacon was hard and inedible. We stopped for lunch on our second try and the burgers were the frozen patties you can buy frozen at Sams, and the chicken fried steak was greasy and tasted again like a frozen meat patty. As we left I talked to the owner...he just said they were a small business doing the best they could....

MY REVIEW: There is only one reason to eat at this place and that is the gourmet burgers. The meat is so so lean that it looks like a steak. I was with a group of four and everyone asked for a To-go menu. None of us were from the area and none of us wanted to forget this place on our next visit. The atmosphere is plain and the large T.V.'s are oddly placed. The service is very poor. It must be their teenage son working the floor because after taking your order he goes back to doing his homework at the waiters station in the back and does not refill your drinks unless you get his attention. As a matter of fact, he doesn't do a thing unless you get his attention. I would suggest they change to counter service with a self serve soda machine and save themselves the embarrassment of lousy service. But the Burgers!!! I can hardly wait to go back!!!!!

MY REVIEW: I have eaten at this place twice with the new owners and a bunch when it was F*red's grill. At first I wasn't too sure about the new place but this second time was AWESOME! They just hired a new kitchen staff for whom I thanked, and the food was great. They plan on making new menu items and burgers due to M*aribelle's the classic Seabrook bar is opening next door to the restaurant. I think this establishment is great and has alot of potential.

MY REVIEW: I have sincerely tried to support this restaurant (I even wrote a positive review a while back) but as of today I've eaten my last meal at this establishment. The service has always been slow but it's gone beyond ridiculous. This morning we had the worst breakfast ever AND horrible service. Two people in our party of four were served their breakfast a good 15 minutes or more before the other two. We had all ordered at the same time.

My eggs that were supposed to be over-medium were way undercooked with the whites still runny (gross), my friends sausage was RED and RAW in the middle (gross), we sat with empty coffee cups for 30 minutes, even after I asked for a refill... people who came in after us had finished their meal and were leaving before we'd gotten our food...I could go on and on but you get the idea. I was able to overlook the poor slow service when the food was decent but since that's no longer the case, Pelican Grill will not get another dime from me. What a shame.

MY REVIEW: Ever since it has been under new ownership, the Pelican Grill has been going down in food quality and service. The doesn't seem to be prepared with the care and pride. The bacon on my cheeseburger was not cooked all the way. They were out of potato salad, so I had the fries. They were pre-processed and seasoned fry that tasted fake.

The wait staff this visit was fine, but for the last several visits they were unattentive and slow.

MY REVIEW: Pelican Grill as it is called now. Has Great Food at an economical price. They serve breakfast anytime. They are open 7 days a week. The owner's and staff are very warm people. When you are there it feels like home. People carry on conversations from their tables and it feels good being there. This is a family owned business and they do a very good job. Sometimes things go a little slow, but I have been in other restaurants where the same thing applies. They do the best they can. The food is much better since these new folks have taken over. The restaurant is very clean now that they are here. More of a family atmosphere. I will continue to eat there. Great Job!!

MY REVIEW: As mentioned before, the service was slow, but tolerable considering the size of the staff. The food was great as well as the portions. The prices were lower than I had expected. I recommend giving it a try!

MY REVIEW: First of all, the restaurant I'm reviewing is what USED to be F*red's Grill... now under new ownership and called "Pelican Grill". The place is cleaner and prettier than I remember it being when it was F*red's, but it still has that casual diner feel that I love.

I've eaten breakfast there a few times, and lunch twice. The prices are reasonable ($5 for a big breakfast and about the same for lunch) but be forewarned--the service is slow-- not BAD, just slow. And the "Philly Cheesesteak" is unlike any I've ever had. I would call it a hot roast beef sandwich instead because it comes with lettuce and tomatoes, and I think pickles and onions.

Again, it's not bad, just not what you'd expect. It's a family run place and I encourage you to give it a try and support local small business owners. Just be patient because I think they're still working out some kinks (like not running out of sauerkraut when a reuben is one of the daily specials).
