Charley's Grilled Subs

MY REVIEW: I really liked this place, but probably due to the endless construction on El Camino Real, it looks like this franchise is closed for business. I went to visit today (3/29/2012) and there was a For Lease sign where Charley's used to be. That's too bad, because their location wasn't that great but their sandwiches were fantastic.

MY REVIEW: My first visit, I stopped by for an early lunch. They were still offering breakfast (had no idea they opened for breakfast), but when I visit a place for the first time I like to sample whatever food seems to "represent" the establishment. That appears to be Philly subs in the case of Charley's, so I went with a 12" steak with white cheese, bell peppers and onions. They have about 5 steak subs and a few chicken subs to chose from. I enjoyed my Philly steak. Comes on a good loaf. The meat is shaved really thin so it cooks quickly and was very tender (and they cook everything on a grill while you watch). After grilling you get to select dressings and toppings, similar to S*ubway. Fries have skins on and were above average.

I've passed by this place a bunch and just always figured some young guy had set up an independent sub shop, but b4-u-eat lists 5 locations---so must a franchise. There's more seating inside than I imagined and it's very well kept. When I had driven by in the past, I thought it seemed out of place stuck in a little strip center dominated by non-food businesses. Still feels that way to me, but there is alot of office space nearby that could generate some lunch traffic. My sandwich was tasty, so I hope their lunch business is good because I'm always happy when the community supports local eateries.

MY REVIEW: I love Charlie's!! The sanwhiches are so good and the employees take the time to make your sandwich perfect!!! (Unlike other sandwhich shops where they act like they can't speak english!!) Charlie's is in my top 5 favorite places to eat lunch!!!
