Moreno's Mexican Restaurant

MY REVIEW: The Moreno family, which operates a Mexican restaurant in Friendswood, has leased (or owned, not sure) the NASA Pkwy. property for about 3 years. In that time it has been a combination Mexican/BBQ restaurant, then just BBQ and now only Mexican food (no BBQ this time around).

I stopped in for a Mexican combination plate, and must say I wish it were a BBQ restaurant again. Rice & beans lacked any depth of flavor. Beef enchilada looked better than it tasted--chili gravy was kind of orange colored which made the enchilada look good on the plate, but didn't deliver in the taste department. Beef taco was average, but red & green sauces were both very good.

Best thing on my combo plate was a "homemade" tamale--not nearly as good as A*lamo Tamales, for instance, but better than most Mexican restaurants.

I wanted to liked their Mexican food as much as I did the BBQ, but I can't say that. Too bad, because this is a nice family who are desperately trying to find something that works at this location.

MY REVIEW: What makes this place shine are their fajitas. Beef is good quality. Chicken is never overcooked. Onions are carmelized perfectly. Many fajita platters to choose: fajitas with grilled shrimp; with pork ribs; with queso flameado, etc.

There was a nice crowd for dinner the night before Thanksgiving. I imagine everyone was getting their Tex Mex fix before the several days of non-stop Turkey & dressing.

Charro beans are a better choice than refried and rice is so-so. The youngest granddaughter didn't much care for the cheese enchilada on the child's plate. I tasted it and it had an overwhelming taste of oregano, of all things?? Likewise, another just picked at a sour cream enchilada. I sampled and it just wasn't my taste either.

I'll just stick with their excellent fajitas.

MY REVIEW: Moreno's is our favorite dining place. Nice staff serves excellent hot food that is perfect every visit. We really enjoy the Dollar Margaritas alot. Sometimes the service is so fast it's hard to reach our quota. We are fortunate to have found such a great value near our home. Thanks to the Moreno Family.

MY REVIEW: Moreno's consistently serves good affordable Mexican food day in and out. The place is always busy at dinner, filled with families, couples and sports teams. There is nothing here that really makes you say "Wow!", but everything is right on target as it should be. I will say that they do have some of the best margaritas in the area... never too sweet, never too sour... very good.

They are always very accommodating in substituting items as well. Last night I ordered the Burrito Ranchero, which is your choice of taco meat or shredded chicken and beans, wrapped in a tortilla and smothered in enchilada gravy and queso... I chose chicken and modified it to be covered in a green tomatillo sauce and white cheese and there was no problem and no upcharge. And it was delicious and impossible to finish! My wife and son likes the Camarones de Diablo... shrimp and jalapeno wrapped in bacon... yummy!

Great kid's menu and pricing as well. In a few short years, Moreno's has become a Friendswood favorite.

MY REVIEW: I have yet to find ANY mexican restaurants that have as fast service as this place. The food taste great too. Strong margaritas.
