I had what was conceivably one of the best Filets I have had in a long time & the Crab Cakes were world class. I never really expected food of that caliber out of what seams to be a sports driven establishment. The service still needs a face lift but the staff is at least friendly & speaks highly of the kitchen. I have high hopes for this new place. They should do something to the outside to make it more noticeable Keep on trucken. NAME: Raliegh SUBMITTED: 11/6/2008   LAST VISIT WAS: 11/01/08 FREQUENCY: Visited 2-3 times MY REVIEW: Just another bad service restaurant in Houston. I have been to 1400 several times for drinks but last night we were there for Wednesday night steaks. The service has never been good. Last night was probably the worst. A waitress was not were to senn. I had to go to the bar to order drinks. While there a waiters walked up and asked where I was sitting, when I told her she said it was her area and that she would take the drinks to us. Twenty minutes later the drinks arrived, then we had to wait for a menu for another 20 minutes cause not everyone wanted steaks, then when she arrived with the menu she disappeared again before returning for our order. I went again to the bar to order drinks and the waiters got upset with me for not waiting for her. It took over 30 minutes for the food from the menu to be delivered and anther 20 minutes for the steaks the come out. Once the food was dropped off we never saw the waiters again. The food is good but not good enough to sit around waiting on it especially when drink orders are not being taken. NAME: Lolo SUBMITTED: 10/30/2008   LAST VISIT WAS: Oct 2008 FREQUENCY: Visited 4-6 times MY REVIEW: This place had only two good things going for it....the food and how clean it was inside. Now for the bad things....I do NOT enjoy paying $5 for valet when you have no other parking choice. This is not in the nice Heights so parking just on the street is something I do not feel comfortable doing given the neighborhood and some of the people lingering around. On top of that it is a dirt lot, so the valet attendants left quite a bit of mud and dirt on my floor mats. The service was absolutely awful! Our party had 12 people in it, we did not all show up at the same time but had a table reserved for us. Those of us that did not show up first had to wait up to 20 minutes for anyone to bring a menu and take a drink order. Once you managed to order food, it took more than 30 minutes to get the side salad. The main entree eventually followed. Getting drink refills was not an option unless you go to the bar yourself. My glass of water was self-refilling when the ice managed to melt enough to allow a drink. We tried flagging the manager over, but they were not concerned about ever coming to speak to our group. There were other tables around us that also had issues they were trying to get resolved. It seemed the common theme was wrong orders, taking forever to get your food, no drink refilling, and they couldn't seem to take the time to ask how to break the bill, they just put it all on one or incorrectly. I will never go back to this place. It was our friend's birthday dinner that his wife had reserved a table for. He spent a lot of the evening having to find people to come take care of our table or going to the bar to get drinks since no one would come take care of it. Thankfully we had good company at our table or the whole evening would have been a waste. NAME: Nicki SUBMITTED: 8/23/2008   LAST VISIT WAS: 08/08 FREQUENCY: Visited once MY REVIEW: Great lunch spot. My daughter had the rib eye sandwich, a whole, very tender steak with both au jus and horseradish, plus homemade fries. I had the spicy chicken breast, which comes with a house salad and choice of sides. The creamy cilantro-jalapeno dressing was excellent, as were the chicken abd both sides, grilled veggies and garlic mashed potatoes. Our server was friendly and informed, and the chef came out and visited with us. All this was a mere $20. They also have Happy Hour from 3-7 everyday, $2 drafts and $4 well drinks.
