838 Sushi Asian

MY REVIEW: This sushi here is AMAZING!! The head chef (maybe the owner) used to work at T@i Pei in Champions (also has outstanding sushi) which I used to eat at VERY frequently when I lived on that side of town. I was stoked when I found out that someone opened a sushi restaurant in Atascocita that actually knows what they're doing. I completley agree with the other reviews, in the fact that the other sushi in the Atascocita / Humble area is a joke. FINALLY, a local place that serves good, fresh sushi. The service is always attentive and everyone that works there is always extremely nice. This place blows W@zabi and @sian $hitty out of the water. I'm thinking people like @sian City because that's the only sushi they've ever had?? That's the only thing I can come up with to understand people's love for that place. I don't get it. Visit 838 and I guarantee you'll be back.

MY REVIEW: We visit this restaurant once a week. The sushi is very fresh and well prepared. Every menu item we have tried has been just as good. The appetizers are unique and delicious. It is a family run business and everyone is very attentive. They answer questions and offer suggestions. Like most true Asian restaurants, the wait staff is attentive without being obtrusive. Go for great sushi and return to try the menu. I promise you won't be disappointed.

MY REVIEW: Best sushi in the area by far. Good luch deals and fresh fish are well worth it. If you know someone who has never tried sushi, this is the best place to take them. Try the crawfish avacado roll.

MY REVIEW: The sushi at this restaurant is AMAZING!!! Superior quality sushi/sashimi and unique rolls make this restaurant a true gem! I've tried H*B Steakhouse, Asian C*ity, W*asabi,T*aipei etc. etc. 838 surpasses them all!
Sushi snob or not, who cares, it's about the food and you can't go wrong here :)
A true food connoisseur could careless about napkins, labels, and music! LoL

MY REVIEW: We finally tried 838 Sushi as a family recently and were very pleasantly surprised (we are Sushi snobs! lol). It was an early Sunday evening and the restaurant was virtually empty (which wasn't the best sign initially), but we found the service to be exceptional and attentive (far surpassing any other Sushi joint in the Houston area) and the food was EXCELLENT. Our kids (not quite Sushi eaters...I'm working on them) found several options in the appetizer section to choose from, such as fresh and warm edamame, the gyoza (dumplings), which were excellent and fresh, and the fried prawns, which were outstanding. The presentation of the handrolls was impeccable and the sushi as absolutely fresh and flavorful as it comes. To our surprise, 838 Sushi's food quality surpassed that of our favorite sushi "watering hole" tucked away in Pasadena. The kids ordered green tea and red bean ice cream for dessert and it arrived at the table with sweet little "faces" on the oversized scoop made of raisins (eyes) and meticulously carved fresh strawberries for the other facial appendages. They are sold!
The cons? Just a few that are perhaps a little pretentious, but deserve consideration. First, our daughter's Sprite order arrived in its original single chilled can (!!!) and would have much better served the ambience and quality of this place had it been served in a glass with ice. Second, the overhead music should probably be a little more modern and updated to "hip up" the place a little and appeal to a wider demographic and contribute to a more fun eating atmosphere. Lastly, the sauces (soy, etc.) at the table, while waiting in beautiful glass containers, should be labeled to avoid the patron having to inquire as to what exactly they are.
All in all, 838 Sushi will not disappoint. I imagine that word of mouth will travel quickly to Sushi lovers in the Atascocita/Kingwood area and will soon become a difficult place to get a table at lunchtime. We applaud the professionalism and attentiveness of the staff, as well as the speed of the chefs that all contribute to a nearly flawless dining experience (seriously...try the Volcano Roll!!). In short, we have found our new sushi joint and will definitely be back!

MY REVIEW: This was our first visit to 838 Sushi. We were kind of skeptical walking in, since our other experiences with sushi in Humble have not been good. My husband and I are both experienced sushi eaters. We have our favorite place to go for sushi near downtown (starts with an O and is on Westheimer at Stanford), but we have no place to go near our home UNTIL NOW.
We thoroughly enjoyed 838. The facilities are nice without being pretentious. You don't feel uncomfortable there in your ball cap and shorts on a holiday afternoon. Also, there was no fishy smell when you walk in, a very good sign. The service was attentive. The food was, well yummy. We started with gyoza, which arrived fresh. The wrappers were more delicate than at other places and the stuffing was tasty. The dumpling sauce was a tasty tangy/salty ginger laced concoction. My husband is a maguro (tuna) freak, so he got the tuna tartar. It arrived i's original presentation, so we just put it on the plate. I ordered the Volcano roll. It was WONDERFUL. I have to now say that this is my favorite roll in all of the Houston area. It's that darned good.
I also ordered some of what I consider "indicator sushi". Basically if a place does not serve these well, not much else can be expected to be good. These were white tuna (shiro maguro), regular tuna (maguro) and omelet (tamago). All three were delicious and fresh. Both tunas had a nice buttery texture and the tamago was not tough or overly sweet. So, overall our experience was great.
Our only cons for the place so far are kind of nit-picky. First I would urge them to fix the grammar and spelling mistakes on the menu. Especially the spelling of the word TARTAR. Also, when you have a familiarly named roll like the Dynamite roll, let people know when you're straying from the familiar recipe like not cooking the clams. Since the decor is rather upscale as are most of the table setting, nicer napkins would be a good idea. The cheap paper ones are not going to cut it. Go for the heavy napkins like P.F. You Know Who. Also, having the soy in beautiful bottles is a lovely touch, but label them so you know which one to avoid.
Finally, if you are looking for a place to take someone and not be reminded of the kids at home or if you don't like dining with kids, you might want to go somewhere else. Since this is in a bedroom community, people will drop in with the kiddos. So, overall, we give 838 a big thumbs up. We are looking forward to our next visit.

MY REVIEW: Stong Points: Good sushi, great waitstaff.
Weak Points: Wished they had more alternative foods so that children can eat there as well, like maybe some cooked japanese entrees.

MY REVIEW: I enjoyed my visit to 838 sushi. The Sushi was fresh and served quickly. there was no waiting for a table, with a friendly chef. The Staff seemed to really know their sushi, which helps if your not too knowledgeable of Sushi, like me. I ordered the tuna dumplings, and the new york roll with a dessert. The fried banana ice cream has a nice presentation, it looked just like a rooster. I will definently be going back. its the best sushi in Houston.
