Luling BBQ (CLOSED)
MY REVIEW: Thought this may have been affiliated with the one on Richmond but its not (yeah i know this is the son)...i called the Richmond store and they confirmed. But based on previous reviews on this site I decided to give it a try and boy was i disappointed.
The prices are high, portions are small and the food is just ok. We went at 6:30 pm for dinner and we where the only customers there. Now I know why.
Menu seems limited as we did not even see bbq sandwiches listed.
Employees where courteous and attentive which is always good, but not enough to make me come back.

MY REVIEW: This BBQ is fantastic. This location is owned by the son of the landmark Luling BBQ on Richmond Avenue. Same recipe and logo but this location has live music 6 days a week. My family owned BBQ restaurants in Dallas so I grew up eating BBQ and this BBQ place is new ( opened in April 2008 ) so the staff is getting tenured and the food is great. Wonderful view with outdoor dining upstairs and under a large tree downstairs. Any negative reviews have to be from a club nearby because the music, drink and food is better at Luling BBQ.

MY REVIEW: I thought the BBQ was great. Some of these negative entries are venemous, and sounds a little too personal, like they have some axe to grind. I have been eating at the Richmond location for years, and starting eating here because it is closer, The ribs and sausage taste the same to me. I am not sure what would motivate them to change such a great recipe. I can't see that they have. I found drinking an iced cold beer with ribs on the outside deck, looking at the downtown skyline at night was a relaxing experience. It really is a great view.
Some people may be too angry to enjoy anything, that is sad. I have tried most BBQ joints around town, they do not hold up to Luling. G*oode Company gets close, and O*tto's is not bad, but Luling hands down wins. Take it with a grain of salt, try it and make up your own mind, but don't listen to these angry people or you could miss out on some pretty damn good pit barbeque.

MY REVIEW: The food I had was actually pretty good. I bought a 1/2 of brisket and got a peach cobbler for dessert. The sauce is mustard based (just like Luling C*ity Market), not ketchup based that most people here are used to. In fact, I almost believe that this restaurant/club is owned by the same person, but I don't swear to it. The food items, with exception of the hamburger and some of the desserts, are strikingly similar.

MY REVIEW: In a previous life, this restaurant had great barbeque. Sadly, that is no longer the case.
The brisket was tender, though tasteless. The sausage was dry and tasteless. I agree with another review about the "sauce", what flavor it had was very watered down.
The only good thing that our party of 8 had was the sweet potato fries; those were the best I have ever had. Everything thing else ... bleh.

MY REVIEW: Strong Points: Location and View on the second floor
Weak Points: Bland tasting food and the only 2 meat combo they have slice beef and link. None of the other meats can be ordered on a combo plate.
We went on a Friday not around 7pm and our table of 3 was the only one in the dinning room. I saw they had turkey on the menu and I wanted a combo plate of turkey and link but the only combo available for order was slice beef and link. Sounds like a strange rule for a BBQ place. I went ahead an ordered the slice beef and link combo plate with beans and potato salad. The potato salad tasted like mayo and did not even have any salt or pepper. The beans did have seasoning. The sliced beef was bland and did not have any smoky flavor. The links were completely dry. The sauce on the tables tasted like watered down ketchup. After we ate we went upstairs to the bar area and there were more people there but no one there was eating. They were all drinking only. The view from the second floor outside patio was very nice but I won't be back. I go to a restaurant to eat not to drink and look at the pretty view.

MY REVIEW: This place has only been open for three weeks and I don't think they have been doing a lot of advertising for it so there were about five tables seated when we got there. We sat upstairs in the bar area and was surprised at the great view on the patio. It looks like a great place to have a birthday dinner or watch the fireworks on the Fourth of July. The food was excellent. I highly recommend the chopped beef sandwich. Our server/bartender Rich was very personable and attentive to our table. I can't wait for more of my friends to discover this Midtown jewel.
