MY REVIEW: The furniture at Richard's is similar to a D*enny's except it is in such disrepair that springs will be poking you the entire time. The food is mostly frozen and cooked incorrectly. For my second visit I came for the crawfish since not many places around have them, I would never have come back here again if that was not the case since I had a similar bad experience my first visit. They were extremely tiny for $5.50/lb. They must have had a really old batch sitting in water all day and a new batch because when I got the plate half of them had no flavor and half were mushy and too spicy to eat. My girlfriend ordered the Mahi and it was overcooked to the point it had flaked apart before it got to the table (we couldn't really tell if it actually was Mahi). Neither of us ate more than a few bites and couldn't stomach any more. When i politely brought this up to the manager without even hinting that it should be comp'd she was extremely rude and basically told me to pay and leave.

MY REVIEW: Judging from previous reviews, this place inspires a lot of passion. The reviewers either hate it or they love it. No in between, till now. I'm going to straddle the fence on this one.

First, the waitstaff. They were neither rude nor unprofessional (maybe a little rough around the edges, but not unprofessional). This is a blue collar place with waitresses that fit in. We received good service. But it was not crowded, so......

I ordered a bowl of chicken & sausage gumbo. Not bad---had better, had worse. Also got 2 lbs. boiled crawfish. Very good seasoning, nice and spicey. Bugs were a little on the small side though. But I would return and order boiled again.

My wife ordered a combo of fried tails and fried shrimp. When it arrived, she was surprised the shrimp were popcorn. Maybe that's what the menu said, not sure?? She had thought she would get regular fried shrimp. Wasn't sure what the menu said so she didn't make a fuss. There was a generous pile of fried popcorn shrimp and fried tails. Problem is, they were all lumped into one pile and it was impossible to tell them apart. The breading was the same, so that added to the confusion. For an extra charge she got a baked potato and asked for real butter. Got margarine instead. Again, no fuss----let it slide. Hushpuppies looked good but were awful. Coleslaw was equally bad. I think if I owned a restaurant, I would have enough pride to find good recipes and serve decent sides. No rocket science here, folks.

Again, middle of the road, the prices are not overboard. But not dirt cheap either. My bill for gumbo, boiled bugs and a combo dinner was about $30. No drinks, no desert. Just food---some good, some fair, some below average.

Would I return? Maybe if I were in the area and had a hankering for a bunch of spicey boiled mudbugs---yeah, I'd go back. But that's probably all I would order. It's ridiculous to say C*aptain D's has better ANYTHING. But probably fair to say that B*aytown Seafood has better fried combos.

MY REVIEW: I love Richard's! They have good boiled crawfish, though spicy enough to burn yo mouf off! ;D The breading on fried foods is light. Our experiences have not been greasy or heavy! The fried alligator is the BEST I have ever had! The wait staff has always been friendly and helpful, though if you go during peak hours on Friday or Saturday, service WILL BE SLOW. (Welcome to Baytown - this is going to be the case at any one of the three or four really good restaurants here!)

MY REVIEW: We once again tried this place. I must now state this so that people like Gina and others will know where I come from. My entire family from my mother's side is from the great State of Louisiana and I was raised on this so-called Cajun cuisine.

Cajun food is supposed to be spicy...not salty. It can be fried, boiled or baked, but it should never be greasy! I guess if you are used to eating salty, greasy food served by people who seem like they really do not know whats going on, Richard's is a great place to eat!

I do not think that Richard's is a good place to eat. It does not matter if the portions are large or small. I am not a glutton, I eat to live, I do not live to eat. So therefor let the people who love salty, greasy food "dine" at Richard's today and visit the cardiologist tomorrow. Eat what you want, but I would recommend giong to Capta!n D's on wednesday and get the all you can eat and grab three salt shakers, lots of hot sauce and get after it. If you ask the nice ladies at Capta!n D's they might give you a cup or two of old fish-frying oil for your completed Cajun Food fantasy.

MY REVIEW: I would strongly disagree with the other review. My family and I eat there all the time. Their food is not salty, it is seasoned. It's a cajun restaurant. The portions are unbelieveable for the money you spend which is little to nothing. The waitstaff and the owners are all nice and polite always paying attention to the needs of their customers. Not to mention, they have the best sweet tea around.

MY REVIEW: Food is salty, greasy and way over priced. The wait staff is slow, rude and unprofessional. B*ytown Seafood is a much better place to eat. Even L*ng J*hn S*lvers or C*ptain D*s is better. Don't waste you time, money or appetite.
