MY REVIEW: My husband visited via Groupon and we fell in love with this place. The ambiance was so romantic even at lunch time, we both tried the S.African Mojito- AWESOME! I have tasted traditional Mojito's but this was much different, for an appetizer we had the Peli Peli Prawn's (more like stuffed baby lobsters) I had the Peli Peli Scampi and my husband has the Chiliean Sea Bass both great entree's...The drive from Missouri City was well worth it and the I can't wait to return.

MY REVIEW: Really? Was I at the same restaurant as everyone else? Went for lunch, had one of the steaks. It was fine. Nothing to go screaming home about or hate. The service was okay, but not what I'd expect from a fine-dining establishment. *shrug* Just meh.

MY REVIEW: We like to eat outside and we enjoy here because of the fountain and people watching. The two times before this it was raining but we were still able to stay dry and enjoy our lunch. Scott is our usual waiter and the bartender & gives us great service, checking on us regularly, even though we're out of sight. Today we tried the prawn appetizer and it was the size of a lobster. I had the lambchops, sweet potato fries and green beans. Hubby had his favorite Huguenot filet, which he said was magnificent, with roasted potatoes and spinach. We've tried oseveral of the South African wines and they've all been good. Today the Meerlust Rubicon wine was almost black in color. This is one of the few places I can get an after dinner drink of Amarula.

MY REVIEW: Bravo! I was born on the East Coast where there is a variety of cultures therefore a variety of foods. The North side of Houston has been quite a disappoint as far as variety. Mexican food every other block. Peli Peli has set the standard. Yes, there are "good" Mexican, Italian, Seafood, and American foods on the North side, but Peli Peli has given this part of town the NEW we need. Peli Peli kicked it up a notch. I've always complained of being bored with the same "common" foods, and I am so thankful for the genius behind this eating phenomennon. The service superb. The atmosphere fabulous. The food extraordinary. The price, WORTH EVERY PENNY. This is what good food is about. I was hoping the Chef would show his face in the dining area. I would have given him a standing ovation!

MY REVIEW: Read all the wonderful reviews and really wanted to try out their food. Too bad because my trip ended up in massive failure.
I wanted to take all of my staff out here for Thanksgiving. Called to reserve a week in advance for a party of 7 and they told us they would close early on our preferred date. We chose to reserve for a late lunch before they closed. Usually an upscale eatery should call to confirm reservations. This place did not. We called the day before just to make sure though and said reservation was confirmed. We show up the next day at the reserved time and were told the restaurant was closed even though their open sign was still on. They never bothered to call us to tell us this. The manager told us the kitchen has already closed. I was extremely upset at this BS and poor management. I would never expect this at fine establishments like M(ark's or C*hez Roux. Ended up going to P*erry's nearby who were very accomodating for our group of 7.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Don't bother making reservations. This second-rate restaurant do not honor reservations. You'll have better luck as a walk-in.

MY REVIEW: I went there for the first time today. It's about 14 miles from my home, although I also live in the northwest area. I had a South African mojito - really great. I also had a medium steak - WOW! so delicious. For side I had their rice pilaf and spinach. I like the spinach better than their pilaf.
The atmoshphere is beautiful. I was also lucky that the waitress told me about the Monday night special (although she forgot to tell me a drink would have been included). That's okay because I really liked my happy hour price for my drink. This place is fantastic. The dessert - key lime pie was so perfect. This restaurant is someplace I can't wait to go back to, even though it is out of my way. If you don't like this place, either you have limited taste or you had a bad night. It's great.

MY REVIEW: Strong point - food was BEYOND amazing. We had the South African sausage, flatbread and ribs for appetizers. Steaks, sea bass and prawns for entrees. The Peli Peli salad is to die for. Weak point - not kid friendly, no high chairs or boosters when I was there...little people need to eat too!

MY REVIEW: Weak: The service. While it was avg at best for the price they really need to step up the service to match the decor, quality of food and price point. Perhaps it is the area of town and finding more experienced wait staff besides first timers that have not served guests at this price point. The way the host was dressed was odd. One was dressed like she came from the 60's and the other young teen was dressed as if she would be working the street. Not that really matters just the first impression but gave us something to talk about!
Strong: The food is great. We had Sea Bass and Prawns all spot on. The sides were great as well nothing was left on either plate. Sweet Fries are the best in town.
We will go back because the food was so great but hope the owner works on hiring better staff.

MY REVIEW: We visited this restaurant after purchasing a coupon. The food was very good and the South African Mojito was fantastic. We had the lamb chops and ribs with the green beans, spinach, and sweet potatoe fries for sides.
Since I live South of Hwy 6 and 288, it was a considerable drive. However, I would definitely consider coming back if I am on that side of town.

MY REVIEW: We ate outside, beautiful day, nice patio with fountains to view. Good food, great slaw, a bit slow for the price. We will return for another sausage and soup!

MY REVIEW: There were some good things about Peli Peli, and some not so good.
I waited tables for 6 yrs and catered for 2 yrs as well, so my take is slightly different than some.
My wife and I decided to try Peli Peli on a recommendation. We met a couple we know there. Initially, the restaurant is pleasing to the eye, nicely decorated and clean. The bar area is small, as is the restaurant itself. The hostesses were pleasant. We did not have reservations, and were told it would be about a 20 min wait. By the time our friends met us five minutes later, we were already being called to our table.
I appreciated the uniqueness of the menu, which gives the more adventurous diners many options generally not found in most other restaurants. We had their Bellini's, which were good, but not the best I've had.
For appetizers we had the salmon tartare and the shrimp cocktail. I found the salmon to be good, but not great. The shrimp cocktail was okay, maybe a little sweeter than I prefer, but the whole shrimp (2) that came with it, had a strange flavor to them that was not appealing.
The sides we had with our entrees were: sauteed spinach, which was very good, the carrot bredie, a sort of mashed potato mashed carrot blend, and it was very good as well. I also enjoyed my rice pilaf (which I generally don't like), but my wife did not care for her's. I think mine was enhanced by the prawn juices that had seeped down into the rice, which kicked it up a notch. We also had the sweet potato fries, which I didn't think I'd like, but they were very good.
For entrees we had the Tiger prawn and shrimp scampi. The prawn (4) were slightly bland. And, one had a mushy texture similar to a crawfish that has died before you cook it. The flavor was also similar to crawfish, which I like, but again a little bland. The menu recommends eating the head and legs. I tried it, but there was even less flavor there. My wife had the scampi, and the shrimp had the same strange unappealing seasoning on them as the whole cocktail shrimp.
Another negative, that I agree with some of the other reviews was the noise. There was a live band, and they seemed to always play when our waiter was trying to talk to us, which made hearing him nearly impossible. Even talking amongst ourselves was very difficult when the band was playing. When they weren't playing, the noise level was at an acceptable level.
Our server, Peter, was polite, professional, and timely. He was friendly and talkative when we wanted him to be, and quiet and professional when we did not. My favorite kind of waiter.
Overall, the best thing about the meal, other than the company, were the sides. The drinks were average, the appetizers were average, and the entrees were average. Honestly, it did not meet my expectations.

MY REVIEW: My husband and visited Peli Peli for first time this past Saturday night. The ambiance was wonderful and happy hour on a Saturday, even better! $2 domestic beers and the bellini was incredible! Our bartenders were very helpful with suggestions on food as well as drinks and extremely friendly : ) Our dinner was then wonderful as well, we had the ribeye and filet mignon. A great place for a nice getaway on our side of town. We enjoyed our night very much. Look forward to more times in the future, great job Peli Peli staff & chef Paul!

MY REVIEW: Another great night at Peli Peli. We had a large party of 22 celebrating two birthdays. As usual the food was fresh and tasted great. Everyone has something different and there were no complaints.
I had the shrimp cocktail that was very tasty....with a twist on the regular type...full of fresh salsa and full of shrimp. The pork chop got raves as well as the surf and turf. Our wait staff was fast and attentive. Paul Friedman, the owner also made sure to stop by to greet us.
I highly recommend Peli Peli to anyone looking for a place to eat that has a different menu and wanting a new taste and handmade sauces. There is something for everyone on their menu. Thanks again to Peli Peli for a great evening and fantastic food.

MY REVIEW: Wonderful place, wonderful food. Great lunch menu and good prices. Able to get in and out in an hour. On to the food.... oh my! Love their steak sandwiches, mango coleslaw and sweet potato fries. One of these days I might try something else but it's hard when you know you have a sure winner. Do yourself a favor and order the sticky toffee pudding. EXQUISITE. It's so good you'll want to return for dinner the very same day and start over again.
Will continue to return, over and over again. Just perfect.
