 Azzarelli's - Katy
Chef/owner Frank Triola's second location of his award-winning Italian-American restaurant
MY REVIEW: Finally an interesting restaurant in Katy! We thought the food was great, the service was terrific, and we especially like the ambiance. What a great space for a 'adults night out'! We thought Azzarelli's in Katy, compared very favorably to some of the better restaurants that we've experienced in our travels throughout the U.S.!

MY REVIEW: After seeing the mouthwater lamb chops on the cover of the Houston Press, my date and I gave into temptation and visited the Katy location. We were seated and ordered a bottle of Reisling and were given bread and oil. The bread was cold and I asked the waiter to send it to the kitchen to warm it. We ordered the Tomatoes Camilla for an appetizer and it was a very delicious treat. I would definitely order this again! To our dismay, they weren't serving the lamb chops so my date settled for the wild boar and I had the snapper w/crab topping and sauce. The boar was a little bland and tough..my date started eating my snapper off my plate. The snapper was good enough, I rate it a 7 out of 10. Our bill was $100 and our food was not worth that amount at all. We won't be visiting the Katy location again and my date was turned off completely so he won't be visiting either location. I will visit the Memorial locatioon and dine on the Tomatoes Camilla and try the lamb chops...stay tuned!

MY REVIEW: I have finally made it to the NEW Azzarelli's in Katy last month. Wow, it's HUGE and beautiful! I have since been back several times, now that I've "learned" how to get there from the Westpark Tollway.
My wife and I are regulars at the Memorial location, so I've tried most of the menu over the last few years. The BYOB policy is nice there, but Katy boasts quite a wine list. What's really provoked me to actually post something on here is the critiques of the olive oil! Who defines olive oil as "zippy"? WHATEVER! Was this picked up from "the Food Network"? I usually have SO MUCH oil (& bread) that I can barely finish my meal! I'm learning to "pace" myself. I have even bought the oil from them to serve at home! My wife got creative last Christmas, bottled some of it and gave it in gift baskets as a host gift.
Seriously, if you have NEVER been, you need to try it and order: Mixed Appetizers Tomatoes Camilla Chicken Mollica or Chicken Zuckero or the Tenderloin & Cassata Cake
If you have been, maybe you just don't know what to order or NOTHING will make you happy!

MY REVIEW: The reviews have a wide range but a group of 6 of us went for dinner to check out this newer Katy restaurant. The staff was very friendly and actually seated us with 1 of our party not yet there. The waitress was helpful in choosing wine when my favorite wasn't available (they have a small list & not very many available by the glass). I would have to say the bread and accompanying dip were just ok, I've tasted much better; we actually requested some parmesan to add to it to give it some zip, the regular grated, powdery version was brought, not the nice shredded type, but it helped. The calamari was fair, but again, would be much better with a zippier sauce. While we were not in a hurry, the service was very slow and when the food arrived, some dishes were barely warm. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. My margharita pizza was, well pretty tasteless. I'm not sure what was lacking, maybe not enough basil or olive oil. I love this pizza and try it everywhere - would not order this one again. It was a nice large size for an individual pizza and a good value at $9 had it been tasty. I may try Azzarelli's again and order a regular entree, perhaps pizza isn't their specialty. We did find the ambiance nice except for the noise level. Being seated at the round table for 6 it was hard to hear the person across the table. The waitress did accommodate our request for separate checks, which they don't normally do and we appreciated that. We would have ordered dessert, however the checks were brought to us without any inquiry as to whether or not dessert was wanted.

MY REVIEW: We had heard many positive things about this restaurant. We decided to try it yesterday before a movie. The best I can admit to was OK. Service was fair, why does the waitstaff walk around cleaning the glasses in public, do they not have have enough to do? perhaps they could all try speaking more softly and not so abruptly. The tables are so close on the banquettes that you cannot help but hear the conversations. If you are going to serve decent wine, which they do at a reasonable price, at the minimum use the proper wineglass.
The scallop appitezer was delicious until you reached the scallop which was glued to the shell and tough. We shared the veal sebastion, the portions are KATY size and way too big for one. The veal was tough, overcooked and the entire dish was lukewarm. The pasta was adequate. I realize we are used to dining all over the world and for the area it is still just OK. Prices are high for the quality and service.

MY REVIEW: After receiving more then one word of mouth recommendation, I made a reservation for Valentine’s Day. My wife’s and my initial impression was good. The restaurant’s décor is above average for Katy. We were presently greeted, seated promptly, and the initial service was attentive. For Valentines’ day there was a set menu. The first course (soup/salad) was great with the ‘Tomato Camilla’ being the standout dish of the night. My wife's scallop in the second course was overcooked and a bit ‘rubbery’. We both choose the buffalo rib eye as our entrée ($75 per person). My wife's was fine, it was different in shape and size then mine; however mine was mostly fat and gristle. Isn’t Buffalo a lean meat? I couldn't eat it and sent it back (another customer seated next to us did the same). I was offered too have it cooked longer and after refusing, a different entrée, but by then I had lost my appetite. The side dish of potato al gratin tasted undercooked as the potatoes were too firm and still had a 'raw' taste. The desert course was acceptable.
We had high expectations based on word of mouth, initial impression, and price. Overall, we left disappointed. I’m hoping my experience can be attributed to the madnees that is Valentine’s Day and relative newness of the restaurant, but it may be a while before I try again.

MY REVIEW: I brought a group of 18 people for dinner on 2/9/08. I made reservations 3 weeks ahead. I told them we wanted a large table in the corner and each couple wanted their own check (9 checks). I was told on the phone to tell the waitstaff and he would take care of it. When we got there, we were told they do not give separate checks. After having words with the owner, chef, waiter, they agreed to give each couple separate checks, but they weren't happy. Half of the table got their food in about 30 minutes and the other half got there food after the first group had already finished, about 30 minutes later. There was only 1 waiter for 18 of us. The food was good but they are not equipped to take care of a large group. The group will not be back!

MY REVIEW: Made reservation for 8 pm party of 2. We got there at 7:55 and they did not have our reservation on there list. I left message at 10 am that morning. They added us to list and we waited until 8:30 to get seated. When we were finally seated, the restaurant was loud and the tables are seated to close to each other. A couple of time I seen the people at the tables next to us listening to our conversation.
Wine list was good and food was ok. Service is slow. We waited about 45 minutes for our food.
I will give them another chance soon.

MY REVIEW: Azzarelli's Italian American Bistro in the Villagio shopping center. My girlfriend and I went there last night, while the boys were watching the Superbowl, and it was by far the BEST dining experience I have had in Katy in years. The service, food, and ambiance were impeccable.
The restaurant itself is HUGE. There had to be room to seat at least a couple hundred. I also saw a nice private room that could be used for parties. I think this restaurant was located in Houston at some point, and relocated to Katy? They are trying to promote the restaurant with a take out special that is really unbelievable. The wine list is good, and they will be starting wine dinners and events soon. The dinner menu is a la carte, but for lunch the prices drop and the entrees come with a salad. I will definitely be back to check it out. They were really slow because of the superbowl, so it will be interesting to see if they are consistent while busy...

MY REVIEW: The food was excellent the best I have had in Katy so far. The service was very good and the owner came around to check up on tables and talk with us and that was very nice. My table had most of the specials and while higher on the price point well worth it. Yesterday we tried the 30 dollar meal at there "market" and it was well worth the price. I would not worry about the negative reviews because this is if not the best it is one of the best places to eat in Katy.

MY REVIEW: I first went to Azzerelli's on their Grand Opening night. The food was above average but they didnt have about half of the items on the menu. The staff seemed very confused and the chef (I was told he was the owner also) was yelling at the wait staff in front of the patrons. They didnt have enough glasses for the guests. I thought all of this may be understandable due to it being the Grand Opening. However, it was obvious they were not prepared. Since the food was good I decided to give it another try this last week. The same extremely poor service still exists. I waited about 30 minutes to be seated. I noticed several other tables around with me with noticeably upset diners. My order came out of the kitchen and it was incorrect. It was like the staff was clueless! The food was average at best. I will not be back.

MY REVIEW: We ordered take out. When I got there they had lost my order and I had to wait almost 40 minutes more for our food. The owner never offered any kind of discount or anything while I sat there and waited. For that I was very disappointed and hope that they would try to make accommodations in the future.
The food was excellent, and very tasty. We are going to try them again and see if we get better service next time.

MY REVIEW: After reading the reviews on b4-u-eat we decided to give Azzarelli's a try. To be honest we thought a restaurant like this in Katy would just be too good to be true. Well, it's everything described and more. Friendly service, great food, and great atmosphere. My wife and I kept remarking that we just couldn't believe we were in Katy having such a great meal.
If you live anywhere in Houston this restaurant is worth the drive.

MY REVIEW: I have eaten now twice at Azzarelli's (once for take-out and once in-house) and both times the food was BEYOND excellent! I was lucky to visit when their lunch special was an incredible stuffed beef tenderloin (11-30-07), which MELTED in my mouth. Unbelievable! The wait service is still working through a couple kinks (a tad bit slow) but what do you expect for being open only about a week and a half? I have no doubt things will improve. I think this will be one of those restaurants where you will eventually have to wait forever to get a table because word is spreading like wildfire about it. Hope to eat there again soon! YUMMY! Two thumbs up to Frank!

MY REVIEW: Ambiance was very nice. It was semi-quiet minus the hustle and bustle of waiters. The owner made it a point to check on tables and was very enjoyable. What was even more enjoyable was the food. Everything from the dipping oil on the table for your breadsticks (which are homeade by the way) to the spinach salad to the main entrees are excellent in quality and quantity! If you like veal, I definitely recommend the Veal "Sebastian." For the price, you get an unbeatable deal with the amount of veal that's actually on your plate. I would definitely both recommend and will frequent this place very often.

MY REVIEW: Azzarelli's in the Villagio Center is open and it was worth the wait! Frank Tireli is presiding over the kitchen and amazing things are coming out through the swinging doors. Delicious pastas, fantastic appetizers, delightful desserts and some truly fabulous specials; if the Osso Bucco is available, go for it. Prices are quite reasonable with most entrees in the 9~12 dollar region.
Service is friendly and attentive with a mix of seasoned professionals and some newbies that are coming up the learning curve. The ambiance is a bit sparse this first week, but new décor items are arriving daily. Finally, we have a fine dining option in the Cinco Ranch development.
