Most of the non-fruit flavored gelatos such as cremes, nuts, chocolates, etc. lack the full flavor that other gelato shops seem to attain. The texture of Sophie's gelato is also lacking...it seems grainy rather than smooth and creamy. The fruit-flavored gelatos, however, such as peach, raspberry, lemon, etc., do offer a more intense flavor that is refreshing for those steamy Houston summer days. The shop is a small one able to seat, as I recall, maybe 8 inside. One or two tables outside can accomodate another 4-8 depending on whether patrons of other neighboring establishments are using them at the time. The shop faces Westheimer so sitting outside is NOT a quiet retreat from the busy day! Overall, the ambiance is that of a family ice cream shop--fine for families but lacking for adults seeking to relax. In my opinion, it is worth the 5-10 minute drive north on Kirkwood to Memorial Dr to have S*orbetto's gelato.
