MY REVIEW: I had read so many good things about Mama's, but it was mediocre at best. The fried chicken has so much sodium in it, it was like licking a salt mine. The side portions were tiny, and there was no "homey" ambience. I was very disappointed, and will not return. For better value, I would just as soon go to G*olden Corral.

MY REVIEW: Really good food – I have to admit I had some reservations visiting this restaurant located in the distant corner of the Food Town parking lot in Pearland. In the past, restaurants in this Bermuda Triangle of the culinary world had disappeared rather quickly. I certainly hope this will not happen to “BMH”.
For $10 you get to pick a meat, three sides, a corn muffin, and a soda – that’s a pretty good deal in my book. I tried the fried chicken and something called a hamburger steak – I liked both very much. Well seasoned, crunchy chicken, moist hamburger. But what really surprised me were the veggies. Between the two of us we had the opportunity to try six different veggies, all served nicely separated in little bowls. The veggies on the steam table may look like cafeteria food, but they certainly don’t taste like it. Everything had a unique taste, the corn was sweet, the mustard greens spicy and the black eyed peas were cooked in a nice meaty broth. The veggies alone are a reason to go back for me.
I even liked the overall atmosphere of the place. No it’s not the place to take a date for a romantic dinner, but the people are very friendly, it’s clean, and even the background music seemed pleasant.
Anyway, if it’s not obvious, I will go back and I hope enough people do to keep this place from becoming another ghost ship in this notorious “Pearland-Triangle”.
P.S. To the person who was complaining about portion size - you must be a 350 pound linebacker needing 8000 calories a day ;-)

MY REVIEW: I didn't see anything that even closely resembles "Homecookin" on the steamtable. The portion sizes for the evening meal is hardly worth the $10 charge for a meat and vegatable plate. And served with bread that is almost as solid as a rock to boot! The ambiance is much like that of a fast food eatery. That was my first and last time in there. Best of luck to them.

MY REVIEW: I was told by a Pearland resident that I should try this new Soul Food resturant in the area. After a bit of investigating a friend and I gave it a try. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice. I had a small cup of gumbo and the ox tails with greens, mac & cheese and spicy okra. The gumbo had a good flavor, the slime could have been cooked out of the okra more and the bay leaves should have been removed before serving. The ox-tails were small but flavorful. The greens tasted out of the canned and kicked up a notch. I wasn't impressed with the mac & cheese but the spicy okra was delicious. Compared to other soul food restaurants in Houston the portion size was extremely small. All in all it was a good experience. If I am ever in Pearland and have a craving for soul food I would visit again.

MY REVIEW: I saw ads, and we decided to give it a try. There were 4 of us. 3 had the smothered pork chops, delicious. Well seasoned and big. Between us, we had mustard greens, yams, blackeyed peas, cornbread dressing (spicy), okra, mashed potatoes, cabbage. It was all very good, seasoned, and big portions. The cornbread roll was good, as was the sweet tea (my favorite). For a $10 meal, you can't beat it. We didn't have dessert (no room). If you are tired of the normal restaurant food, try this. And don't let the word 'soul' food scare you. It's really just downhome southern cooking (I'm originally from New Orleans). I will be back for sure!

MY REVIEW: Smothered pork chops, fried fish, fried chicken, and fried pork chops were all tasty with a slight kick to it. The sides - cabbage, greens, green beans, yams - seemed to be "canned" that were spiced up. I liked the lemon cake and cobbler desserts. You get a lot for the $10 meal (meat, 3 sides, and a drink). The service was great. I'll be back.

MY REVIEW: My wife went to this place and I was suprised by the portion size you get, I tried the gumbo that she brought back and the "cup" of gumbo was the size of a bowl at other places. I was really surprised. It was really good even with the okra in it. Then my wife went again and i got one of their meals, oxtails exact with the three sides and a drink for ten bucks . That's a deal, at other places you spend $15.00 just for the entree half the portion. Anyway this place is good, I highly recommend it to everyone. It's about time Pearland had a soul food restaurant. The food here is better than a lot of the other brand names soul food restaurants in Houston.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I tried this after reading about it in the Pearland Journal. I had smothered pork chops, with mustard greens, white beans and cabbage. The plate included corn bread and a drink for $10. My husband had hamburger steak with rice and brown gravy, along with mustard greens and white beans. Everything tasted great. It is a new place and the service was slightly slow but it was clean and the food great. Please visit since the two of us cannot keep it open alone!

MY REVIEW: Greaet food!! This place has the best gumbo in Houston. Excellent fish, chicken, shrim, oxtails, and pork chops. I eat here on average three times per week and enjoyed the food every time. They have large portions and resonable prices. The staff is very friendly and nice. I love the dessert; especially the pies. I will continue to eat here regularly.

MY REVIEW: Me and my co-workers was looking for something different to eat for lunch. We saw the ad @ Pearland's Best Coupons.Since there's not much southern food cooking around Pearland, we decided to try it out. The pork chop was well seasoned, and it's humongous! Cabbage, brocolli rice and cheese, and mash potatoes were really good! I'm very surprised because it was what I expected from southern cooking. My co-workers were also very satisfied from what they had. (oxtail, macaroni and cheese, seven steak, okra, and rice). We all had the $10 plate and for the price, the food was well worth it.
The staff was very friendly and the place was clean. We are all planning to have our next big lunch with them again soon!

MY REVIEW: This food tasted great. They are still working on getting their system and their menu down because they were out of some items, but as far as the food that we ate, it was delicious. The green beans were spicy with lots of flavor and the cabbage was great. The fried chicken was perfect. The yams were as good as any dessert. We went not expecting much but left very happy. If you like southern home cooking, they have it here.

MY REVIEW: Was looking forward to a new soul food experience. Does not offer much for those who do not eat pork. I was told they only had one button to push to charge me for three sides and even though I only had one (due to the lack of options), I was going tobe charged for three. Disappointed with the customer service.

MY REVIEW: I was informed on Friday that a much needed soul food restaurant had just opened up in Pearland. I visited on Saturday, and the food was very good. It was well seasoned but not overly seasoned. The portion sizes were ample enough to have left overs. The prices are affordable, the facility was clean and the staff was very friendly. Looking forward to visiting again.
