I love it how the scenery is so bright. And the prices, oh man. Cheap for how big they are. I recommend you trying it out for yourself, everyone is so friendly!

2150 S Hwy 6, Houston, Texas 77077 281.531.8884 MY REVIEW: Saw place in a new strip mall on Hwy 6 just south of J*oe's Crab House. Easy in and out if you are headed south, on west side of 6.
I had the BBQ pork lunch special for $5.95. Came with large drink, white rice and soy on side, macaroni salad with pineapple ring and beef setting on cabbage. I would say very good. They have a number of other items that look intriguing. It is a lunch place and probably more of a carry out place. A slightly different way of preparing food, change is good.
Service was quick and friendly. I will go back and try there mahi mahi and chicken.

13710 Cypress North Houston Rd, Cypress, Texas MY REVIEW: Fortunately this place is close to my home. The portions are generous. Had the barbeque chicken, barbeque beef, mahi mahi plate, chicken katsu. These dishes are excellent and tastes hawaii style "local". I had the kalua pork plate. This dish would improve if the shredded cabbage was cooked and sorta mixed in with the pork. The side mac salad, can be improved on. Needs more mayo, more importantly, the right brand. The mini plate sized meals are almost full sized only lacking 1 scoop of rice. This place is pretty much take out, (about 4 tables in front of counter). Overall, the generous portions, the price and convenience suits me fine.

13710 Cypress North Houston Rd, Cypress, Texas MY REVIEW: I've been dying for good Hawaiian food in Houston, and now there are 2 places that I can call home. Big Island is a very small location, in a neighborhood in Northwest Houston that could hardly be called a stronghold of Hawaiian culture. The food's pretty good, though.
I had the BBQ mix plate and my date had the Kalua Pork plate. Both meals were overflowing with food. The standard Hawaiian plate lunch has meat, 2 scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad, and Big Island's mac salad was good. The kalua pork had a hint of smokiness and was very moist and tender. My BBQ plate was also good - the BBQ chicken didn't have a lot of teriyaki flavor to it, but fortunately there was a side of sauce to perk that up. The teri beef was good, and the kalbi rib was a little chewy, but you expect that. The place is clean and tidy.
I talked to one of the owners, who said the Highway 6 location will open at the end of September. I'm glad about that, as I live in that part of town and Cypress N Houston and Huffmeister is a bit of a haul. They're nice people at Big Island and I'll have to try the new location out when it opens.
