NEWS: Do to hurricane Ike and the devastation it has caused on our coastal community, Ginger's is severely damaged, and is closed indefinitely.
MY REVIEW: Very good sevice for lunch. The chef came to our table to recommend a special meal that was fantastic. Very reasonably priced. Good drinks and good music outside. We will return soon to try dinner. Thanks, Ginger.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I had dinner at Ginger's last night. I had the Surf and Turf and my husband had the 10 oz. Filet. My filet was prepared perfectly, medium-rare as I had ordered. The lobster was a bit overcooked and dry and didn't have much flavor. It reminded me of the lobster you get at R*ed Lobster (cheap!!). My husband ordered his filet butterflied and cooked medium well and he enjoyed it very much. We ordered baked potatoes with our meals. They were served along with sauteed vegetables and a dinner salad was included. The salad appeared to be from a bag with cherry tomatoes and cucumbers on top. I had a couple of glasses of the house cabernet with my dinner. It was not spectacular, but was drinkable. We finished off our dinner with the Lava Cake and we were very disappointed. There was no hot fudge in the middle and there was way too much whipped cream burying the cake. I ordered a B&B with my desert but was told they do not carry it.
As far as I know we were the only customers dining in the restaurant. A few people came to the bar while were eating. We both enjoyed listening to the piano player and my husband liked that he was permitted to smoke in the bar area. Our entire bill was $79.00 which I feel is a very good value for what we got. There are a few things that could be improved upon, but overall our visit was enjoyable and we will return.

MY REVIEW: I was really hoping that this place would do well. Living in the area, it would be nice to have an upscale restaurant to frequent. I'm sure that Ginger had the best intentions opening this restaurant in San Leon, but you know what they say about good intentions...And this visit was a trip to Hell. Upon my party's arrival we were greeted by Ginger, who dashed by with an arm full of menus saying, for the first time, we're real busy tonight, I'll be with you in a moment. I looked around and the restaurant and only half the tables were occupied... Busy? Five minutes later we got our table. Add another five minutes before Ginger dropped off menus..her third time by the table, add another apology about being busy and after seating another party and giving them their menus). Another five minutes went by before Ginger dropped by to apologize again about being busy and assuring us that the waitress would be with us shortly. Shortly after that the waitress showed up and while filling our water glasses bumped my menu with a glass, spilling it on the table and on one of the members of my party. (she later dumps a tray of food on the floor on her way to another table) After a short, flippant apology and an explanation that she now has to go wait on other customers, she walks off and doesn't return for another ten minutes. I've been known to leave other restaurants for a lot less than what we had already experienced, but this had gone from pathetic to humorous and like watching a train wreck, I couldn't just walk away. When our waitress returns, she takes our order (I ordered the 8oz filet - medium, garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus and dinner salad). After taking our order she turns to walk away and we have to stop her and ask if we can order drinks. I didn't order from the bar, but it looked well stocked except it only had draft beer.
When we arrived, there was a piano player playing that, while a tad too loud, was appropriate for the restaurant. He was replaced by a duo (guitar and horns) that was not very good and WAY too loud! You had to raise your voice to carry on a conversation.
About 15 minutes after we ordered, our food arrived. This is when the bad feeling got worse. I was still waiting for my dinner salad. I can't say that's the first time that's ever happened, but usually the waitress catches it and brings a salad out immediately. Not here.. As far as the entre goes, the presentation was nice and the filet was one of the nicest looking cuts of meat I've seen in a while.. Until I cut into it. It looked like it spent maybe a total of 2 minutes on the grill - a minute on each side. I thought about sending the steak back, but there was no salvaging this experience and all I wanted to do is get it over with. As far as the rest of the meal, the potatoes were average, but the asparagus was the best thing on the plate. Steamed to where they were cooked but still had crunch to them. After we finished, we asked for the check and for once something didn't take five minutes. She was there and back with both the check and credit card receipts. As we were leaving, I stopped and considered talking to Ginger about our experience. If it had been one or two things that were wrong I might have, but this was an experience that was best put out of its misery.

MY REVIEW: Beautiful restaurant, the only one of its kind in San Leon. Like any new restaurant there are some things that are being worked out but the owner is there 24/7 working on it. I am having my wedding there at the end of May and cannot wait to see how she landscapes the garden area! The steaks were outstanding and the decor' gorgeous. Having separate dining areas allows her to be a sports bar (for the BIG GAME), piano bar for New Year's or Valentine's Day or to have a meeting in her banquet room. Improvements are constantly being made.

MY REVIEW: We were not very pleased. Other than the drinkers/smokers at the bar, we were the only table seated. Our entire visit was right at 2 hours - it was too long. The steak cuts were pretty, but both came out over cooked. Ordered Filet medium, it was well; ordered ribeye medium rare, it was medium well. They were out of ribeye's so substituted the next steak with a NY Strip. The second time they came out, they were cooked more to our liking, but were both very bland. Comes with a big serving of mixed veggies, they were also bland. Garlic mashed potatoes were yummy. Prices do not include a salad, and the cheapest side salad was, I believe, $4.95. NY Strip was topped with mushrooms; they were also bland - needed to be cooked with some cooking sherry, or balsamic vinegar, or garlic or sliced onions or something.
They comped the one meal because of the fact that they weren't able to prepare a ribeye. There were two of us. One drank draft beer, the other had a $20 bottle of wine, and we shared one salad. Even with one meal comped, it still cost $67. We drove approx. 40 minutes to get there. Next time, we'd rather drive somewhere closer, spend the same amount, and get food that we know has flavor.
I liked the atmosphere/ambiance. Piano is self playing and was a bit loud. The bar is very pretty. The bartender, who's name escapes me, was very knowledgeable about his wine and has worked at places such as Pappa's Steak House (We love it there, but usually only go once a year for a birthday!). We think Sports Bar should be removed from the name if it is going to be a piano bar and cigar/cognac bar. Make it one or the other, since they share the same room. The lighting is dim, the piano is playing, it has the potential to be romantic, but you throw TV's in the mix, games on the bar, an arcade game in the opposite corner as the piano, and 'Sports Bar' in the name and it is confusing to the public.
We feel Ginger’s is a bit pricy for the location, but it may make it since it doesn't have any competition. But we feel some changes will have to be made. We will try it one more time, but will wait a while to see if things improve with time.

MY REVIEW: Loved this place also. I was there visiting from Florida for the holidays. It was amazing in all aspects after all it is a new dinner house. I also talked with the owner and she had explained she is still working on the kinks..
WOW! I can just imagine when she has settled in. She also explained her long term goals in regards to her outside plans for entertainment. It sounds wonderful. I will make it a point to visit there again soon.
It was wonderful and the food was to die for. I would have to say it was a 5****** overall experience. Ginger's will leave you wanting more.
Thanks everyone for a wonderful memory... God Bless!

MY REVIEW: This place was absolutely beautiful. From the moment you walk in you feel like part of the family. You are greeted by the staff ready to perform any request you have. Since they just opened they are looking for any suggestions you might have to keep you coming back. The owner walks around to every table to make sure you are well cared for. I really liked that the owner even came up to us because most people pass us up because we are a younger couple. I really appreciate that kind of hospitably. The steaks were to die for!!! You could cut it with a butter knife!!! I finished everything on my plate!!!
