MY REVIEW: I had heard great things about this place from friends; however, I was not particularly impressed with the food. Service was decent but my party was not in a rush. We had the mushroom tofu soup and kimchee tofu soup, which both came piping hot. they both tasted great. we had spicy pork bulgogi and the beef short ribs as our entree. i've definitely had better, but they were pretty tasty nonetheless. the only gripe i had were the side dishes. they pickled cucumbers were limp and bland, the seeweed salad did not taste as fresh as i thought it would taste. the friend whitefish was a pleasant surprise and it was quite moist and delicious. definitely pay this restaurant a visit and decide for yourself whether it's worth going back. i would definitely go back and try some of their patties out of curiosity.

MY REVIEW: Strong points: Their tofu soup is good, so are their pancakes.
Weak points: Service is bad. We went there in late November on a weekend evening, there were 10 of us. The place was crowded and we have to wait for a long time to get service and have someone take our order. They put us in a corner and we actually have to leave the table to get someone to come take our order. Did not get refill on the side dishes and water, but they still charge us 15% for tips.
Went there again last night, this time there were 4 of us. The server took our order wrong. We ordered pork and they brought us beef, when we told her about it, she has the audacity to tell us the sauce is the same, just the meat is different...unbelievable! She also left out one of our orders and when we point it out to her, she even argues with us about it.
Conclusion: There are other Korean places on Bellaire with better food. With this kind of service and attitude, I'll be bringing my business elsewhere.

MY REVIEW: I went to this place yesterday with a friend of mine from Korea. We entered and were sat immediately. Drinks offered and, after some discussion, we ordered. We had the Kimchi pancake and both had a different Tofu Soup (he had seafood, I had seafood and beef) and ordered them in the combination (at $13.95 with soup and entree); we ordered the pork extra spicy and the medium spicy Korean bbq short ribs. My only quibble is that all of the food came at the same time...but it was excellent.
The Pancake was very nice - crunchy and warm and the dipping sauce was piquant and tasty. The Soup was EXCELLENT. Boiling hot in the iron bowl, we broke an egg into it and stirred it in, then began to put it on the sticky rice that accompanied it in the stone bowl. The side dishes included cucumbers, fish cake, and kimchi, all with a bit of pepper sauce, then mung beans, seaweed salad and pickled turnips. There was also a side dish of a cold fried whitefish (which must be an acquired taste). The food was delicious and the staff was not obsequious, but efficient and available whenever we needed something. And there was more than enough food. The beef shortribs were excellent - sweet and salty with a taste of sesame seeds; and the pork was soft and melting in the pepper sauce. It could have actually used a bit more heat, but that is because I am a Texan, not Korean, and like the heat. A lot. My Korean friend seemed only disappointed that the food was not grilled at the table and that hot pot service was not available; however, when the food arrived, he was quite satisfied with the flavors and authenticity of the meal.
We had more than enough to eat and in fact left food...and it was under $40.00.
I will definitely go back.

MY REVIEW: I have tried this place two times only because I wanted to see if they improved on their food.
First of all the restaurant is very hot inside. The wait can be a while only because the place is tiny. The food well all I can say is its VERY VERY Salty. The first I went there I got the food extra spicy. Only because they asked how spicy do I want it. It did not come out spicy at all only VERY salty.
Second time I went I just ordered it regular. Same thing VERY salty. Even the people I was dining with complained how salty everything was. The side dishes were very bland.
Sorry but I will drive the extra 15 mins to Long Point and get better food. Only thing I can say good about this place is the prices. Very Fair. If you want mediocre korean food then go here. If you want GOOD korean food then try on Long Point.

MY REVIEW: I had read the reviews here and was disappointed, because I had been to a great Korean tofu soup place in Los Angeles. After the Houston Press' positive review of Tofu Village, we decided to check it out ourselves. It turned out to be a great experience. The service was quick, friendly and helpful. The food came out quickly and was fresh and delicious. Try one of the combos. They include your choice of tofu soup, a meat dish, rice, and lots of side dishes. We will definitely return.

MY REVIEW: I went here by myself for lunch today. I was the only non-Asian at the restaurant and got seated kind of out of the way. I thought it might have been because I was alone but later on an Asian man was seated alone at a table in the main room. Hm.
Anyway, I ordered the galbi by name (even though the English menu didn't have transliterated names for anything, it was just called BBQ short ribs on the menu) because I wanted to give the impression that I knew something about Korean food. Before too long they brought me a small salad with a typical ginger cream dressing, then the meal came. It came with a steaming hot clay pot of rice, a whole deep fried fish, several kim chis (cabbage, radish, tofu, pickled cucumber, broccoli, and bean sprouts), and the galbi.
I'm no expert on Korean food though most of my experience with it has been in D.C. which has pretty good Korean from what I've heard. I thought everything was tasty and as expected. The service was polite, I didn't have the issue that the other reviewers had, but not spectacular in any way. I would go back.

MY REVIEW: I agree with the first reviewer. The service here is HORRIBLE. The first time I visited, we were not greeted, and had to seat ourselves after akwardly waiting for about 5 minutes for someone to notice we had just come in. We had to hunt down a waitress to take our order. Our food came out fast, but we noticed other people recieved complimentary tea and fish with their meal, and we did not. The tofu stew was some of the best i've had (reminds me of korean town in cali), and the meat was seasoned well, but was tough.
Even though the service was bad, we decided to come back a second time. This time it was busy and packed, and once again we seated ourselves. After 30 minutes of waiting for waitress, we left the place and went to the korean restaurant on the other side of the plaza (Ar*ang) where the service and portions were very generous! The tofu stew at TOfu Village was top notch though!

MY REVIEW: Rude and slow service each time we have gone to Tofu Village. The first time we went it took 15-20 minutes to order, and nearly an hour to receive all of our food. I was brought the wrong dish and was told that I ordered incorrectly by a rude waitress (I ordered by the menu number and saw her write the number down).
The food is between edible and OK, but be prepared to receive the wrong order (when you finally receive your food) as well as poor customer service. Don't waste your time and money on this place. There are MANY other Korean places that are much better (for example Il Mi J*ung or S*eoul House). We will NEVER go to this place again, and urge all of you not to as well.
