MY REVIEW: We were on a mini vacation, My husband and I decided to eat somewhere which was a non chain place. We were greated at the door and we decided to eat at the counter, We ordered a club sandwich which was really great. They had homemade potato salad and chips. They had malts, it was like going back in time. We loved it. the food was really good and the atmosphere was good. I will return.

MY REVIEW: I'll start with two words - frozen potatoes. We went for breakfast on a resent trip to Galveston. My husbands pancakes and bacon sat for several minutes while they cooked my eggs and potatoes so his food had cooled before it arrived at our table. His food wasn't as cold as mine. The potatoes were not only frozen before they were cooked, they were still frozen when they arrived. The service was mediocre. Our waitress kept walking by but wouldn't look at us, even when I tried to get her attention. We will not be back.

MY REVIEW: A lot of people go to Star Drug for the old-fashioned atmosphere, but the food there would hold its own in any environment. Outstanding burgers and sandwiches and of course good ol' malts and sundaes. Their tomato-basil soup is different from the creamy kind that is popular at places like La M*adeleine; it has a stock base with visible chunks of its main ingredients, and it's very good, especially as part of one of their combo lunches. There is table service for those who don't need the novelty of sitting at a lunch counter.

MY REVIEW: As a little girl, my mother used to take me to Star Drug on a regular basis, so I was very excited to see that they were re-opening. We went in on a Saturday around 11 a.m. and were told that we would have to wait as they were transitioning from breakfast to lunch. Odd, because there were only about 4 other tables but, nonetheless, we waited...........About 10 minutes later, our server came back to get a drink order. Two iced teas, simple enough. After waiting 25 minutes for our iced teas, I went to the counter to try and get them. The cook ended up getting our iced teas for us. Our server finally came over to get our order, two chicken salad and tomato-basil soup combos. It then took another 30 minutes to get just the chicken salad sandwiches and the side of potato salad accompanying them while we watched them sit on the line the whole time. We were then told that they were still preparing the soup. A short while later, the waitress brought our soup. Looking at the cups of greasy clear broth, I politely informed the waitress that we had ordered tomato-basil to which she snapped,"that IS tomato-basil soup" and stormed off. Digging through my cup of broth, I found raw tomatoes, chunks of wheat bread, and uncooked bacon. I decided not to brave the soup but my friend told me it was, in fact, horrible. The chicken salad sandwich was mediocre, at best, and the potato salad was inedible (hard to do, but they managed). The woman whom I think is the owner, walked around glaring at people. And the woman behind the register, could not be bothered to get off the phone to ring me up. All in all, AWFUL experience. Will never darken their door again. You'd be better off to go to S*peculoos on the next block.

MY REVIEW: My wife & I ate had breakfast on a Sat morning. As it is self seating, we chose to sit at the counter. I would say that the restaurant was only about a 1/3 full of patrons. I had a typical eggs over easy, bacon, & potatoes. My wife had the french bread french toast, sausage & a cup of fruit. The coffee there was excellent. Overall, everything was tasty, decent portions and of good value. We will definitley return. I would suggest taking a leisurely stroll around the strand area to make use of the parking meter time you would have to pay. Quiet ambiance, interesting display cases of knick knacks that you can purchase. Will have to try their ice cream fountain treats and have lunch there in the future.
