MY REVIEW: You can't go wrong with Catalina, they are simply the most talented and most knowledgeable coffee shop in town. No push-button computerized machines here, everything's manual, no froo-froo extra whipwhipdoublefoobar lattes. Just the best darned espresso and coffee you'll find. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better cup anywhere in the world. Until they opened up, I thought coffee joints were just places to hang out, get a buzz on some nasty-tasting brew, and get some work done. I didn't know what real coffee was until they schooled me. (And I used to work at st**bucks!)

MY REVIEW: wonderful quaint coffee shop with great art, great music (thats not cliche or blaring) perhaps a more erudite clientele - but most importantly - EXCELLENT COFFEE. The baristas here really know what they are doing - and they take pride in the pouring of foam into great coffee art. Catalina Coffee Shop rivals the best coffee shops in NYC, Portland, DC, Seattle, etc. CLEARLY the best quality in Houston (or any other placein texas or louisiana ive ever visited)
thanks catalina!

MY REVIEW: Best lattes in Houston. My fiancee and I are originally from the Nortwest and Northeast, respectively, so we think we know quality coffee. We moved to Houston 8 months ago and have been in search of a good latte. Everywhere we went had subpar coffee. Always bitter. That is until we went to CATALINA! The coffee is excellent; the baristas skilled (the only ones in town who can make pictures/patterns in the latte foam); and the space is hip.
Most importantly, at Catalina its all about the coffee. This is by far the best coffee house in Houston and the only one that competes with those in our former homes.

MY REVIEW: The first words out of my mouth after tasting their coffee was "Is this how coffee is supposed to taste?" It was not the least bit bitter and definitely had the citrus tones that Max spoke about when he was telling me about Brazilian coffee beans. Best coffee I have ever had in my life. I'm also disappointed I came here just because I feel like all coffee I have had before is a farce. Can't wait to come back :).

MY REVIEW: Great ambiance, wonderful service, and spectacular espresso. Possibly the best lattes I have had anywhere in Houston - definitely recommend this shop to everyone.

MY REVIEW: Unless I am traveling I NEVER go out for coffee as it's extremely unlikely that a coffee shop can produce a better latte/espresso than I can at home. I have to say that Max and his crew at Catalina have changed that for me and I'm definitely a regular. Easily the best in town if you're serious about coffee and not just looking for something to burden with various flavoring syrups.

MY REVIEW: It's always a struggle to find decent espresso in Houston, that was up until Catalina Coffee came onto the scene. Max and company are driven to deliver a quality pull every single time. In addition to this they believe that it all starts with the right coffee beans. All of this come through in each cup served. It is also nice to be able to get free WiFi access while hanging out at Catalina. If you are serious about a good espresso, do yourself a favor and head on over.

MY REVIEW: I've been in houston for the past 4 years, and have been to a TON of coffee shops in that time. I love my espresso, and catalina has the best espresso I have had in the city. Also, they know the difference between a latte and a cappuccino is not just the type of cup you put it in.
I'm currently drink their macchiato - they know how to do it right. Free wi-fi, not too crowded (yet?), assorted pastries

MY REVIEW: The espresso here is fantastic. I hadn't been able to find a good cup in Houston until I came across Catalinas. Nice crema, and great flavor in my doppios. The service here is fantastic as well, and the quiches are very good. I'll update when I sample their other drinks/pastries (haven't done so yet since I'm addicted to the espresso and quiches).

MY REVIEW: Having spent time at many of the "coffee shops" in town as a dining reviewer & coffee lover, I must say that this is the best cup I've come across in Houston. I lived in Italy for several years but unlike another reviewer, I thought that this was the most authentic espresso yet. I know that the machine is brand new and that the owner has been adjusting the tamp, so perhaps that may account for the poor review. While I love many of the cafes in town, I haven't found any truly quality coffee (like NYC, Portland, Seattle, Italy) until Catalina's opened. I had a French press of Yemen coffee the other day that was out of this world. At this point, Catalina's doesn't offer meals, so the focus is the coffee. They do have delicious organic baked goods like coissants, berry scones, muffins, chocolate truffles, and a very tasty Avacado ice cream. My only complaint is that they don't have bagels, an essential for me, but I understand they are working to make that happen. Guatamalan is the house coffee & another blend is offered daily, my favorite of which so far is the Italian roast. Oh yes, they have free Wi-Fi for your laptop.

MY REVIEW: The space is very industrial but nice. I am gald to see stuff like this poping up on washington ave....its a good sign for the neighborhood however I am sad to say the products in this place are VERY average. I just moved back to Houston recently and have been to this place and Daily G*ind also on washington. Both a neat and unique places but for "coffee shops" the coffee these places serve are undrinkable. Maybe I am bias because I lived in Itlay for the last 8 months but wow...please someone tell these people what real espresso etc are suppose to taste like. I dont say this often but I was actually offended by the quality of espresso I had here...good idea, nice place, good location but please upgrade the main thing that will drive you business which is the "coffee!!!!""""""

MY REVIEW: This man knows his coffee! If you appreciate (or demand) a well-brewed, flavorful cup of Joe then this is the place for you. This is obviously a passion of the owner and he has gone to great lengths to carefully craft the best coffee around.
Besides the good product, the space is beautiful. It is located in the up-and-coming Washington Avenue District (two doors down from the D*ark Horse Pub) in a renovated historic building. Exposed brick walls, duct work, and comforable seating make for a pleasant environment.

MY REVIEW: Great renovated old building, excellent coffee, friendly service. Was only the fourth day they were open when I visited. The owner is quite customer service oriented, and his plans for the estblishment that he shared with me sound excellent. He is still working on the finishing touches...but it is well worth stopping by to check it out. Also, plenty of parking and an entrance in the rear.
