MY REVIEW: My wife and I keep going back to J's, and we highly recommend it. The menu is very creative, with extraordinary dishes that change with the season. You won't find this type of food at many other suburban restaurants!

My favorite dishes are tilapia in potato net, crab trio, house salad with raspberry vinaigrette, and for dessert, the fruit parfait and chocolate silk. Everything we've tried is delicious. Service is friendly and impeccable. Don't go if you're in a hurry though, this is not a quick in-and-out place.

MY REVIEW: Splendid! I visited J's Bistro for the first time today for Sunday lunch/ brunch. Its a little difficult to locate, but is in the strip shopping center at the intersection of Clay Rd., and Hwy 6. The place is spacious and ably furnished making the ambiance pleasant.

As I am a vegetarian, I asked the wait staff for my options. Promptly, the chef came out and asked for our preferences, suggested few dishes, offered on house soup and took our order.

The mushroom soup was fabulous, and so was the food! I modified my calamari pasta to veggi pasta which tasted fantastic. So was the other dish he prepared for us from his dinner menu. The service was fantastic throughout. Only that they should have served the bread (which was warm with nice butter) along with the soup.

The desert fruit pudding was worth too.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I have been to J's at least 6 times since he opened. The ambiance is not the best but since he has such great food, especially for the Bear Creek area, we really wanted him to succeed so we could have at least one good restaurant close to home. BYOB is an added plus since we enjoy wine with our dinner. We were happy when his business started to pick up. We even ate there one night when his air conditioner was broken and had dinner in front of a fan! On our last Saturday night we arrived at 7:30 p.m. The usual waitress (always polite and attentive) was rushing around, obviously very busy as there were several tables with customers. A waitress whom we had never seen before told us they could not accommodate us, that we needed a reservation or could try back in an hour. My husband tried to tell her we were regulars and didn't mind slow service. (We had a bottle of wine and were happy to sit and relax with a glass.) Still she would not seat us. And there were empty tables visible. I'm glad J's business has picked up but how about a little loyalty to "regular customers". Sorry J, but WE WILL NOT BE BACK... (No matter how good your food is, service matters also!)

MY REVIEW: We went late (arrived after 8) and found the restaurant quite empty. I personally thought we were making a mistake going here. The outside, in a typical shopping center, was somewhat detracting. BUT, we drove in from Spring and didn't want to go back hungry. PLUS, there were so many positive reviews on here. So, we proceeded.

The ambiance within was nothing like the outside. Music was playing softly and the interior was decorated very nicely. The beer selection was outstanding and the waitress and chef were both very knowledgeable of various types of beers. The food was absolutely OUTSTANDING. While this may not be the best restaurant I’ve ever eaten at, it is definitely in the top 3 (and I’ve eaten at a LOT of them). The service was wonderful. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs and the food arrived promptly. The price was a little higher than other places we’ve eaten, but it was well worth the money spent. With a couple of drinks each and deserts (and of course a main course) we spent about $40/ea.

While this was our first time, I can assure you we will be back.

MY REVIEW: This is my 3rd visit to J's and this time decided to try their Sunday brunch. It was just as good as the dinner...for great prices too. Mu husband had the crab cakes. 2 came with it and it was DELICIOUS! I had the french toast with sausages which was just as good. We've decided we'll pay J's Bistro a visit after church every other Sunday since we're tired of I*hop!! ;)

Definitely check out J's Sunday brunch!

MY REVIEW: J's Bistro is wonderful. I have had dinner and brunch there and both times I was not disappointed. This is a wonderful restaurant that deserves a huge following. The chef and the staff work very hard to please. Their food will speak for itself. Everything I have or any of my friends have, ordered has been wonderful. The appetizers to the desserts - fabulous. The Lambic is very interesting, a cross between champagne and beer, delicous. It is hard to describe because the menu is so eclectic - suffice it to say dining at J's is an delicous experience.

MY REVIEW: The previous reviewers are correct - this place is great. It may be in an unassuming strip mall, but the decor inside is very pleasant as is the piped in background music. We had the crunch shrimp appetizer that was served with two delicious sauces. I had the tilapia in potato nest and my wife had the soft shell crab. Both were delicious. The wine list is somewhat limited, but cost is good. The service we received was fabulous. Can't believe that such an excellent restaurant has made it into the Bear Creek area.

MY REVIEW: WOW-- Where do I start?? My husband and I decided to try out J's after reading all of the good reviews and, I have to say, J's Bistro is all that and more! From appetizers to main course to dessert, we couldn't have been happier with our experience at J's. The onion rings (which aren't on the menu, but should be) are some of the best we've had in a long time. I had the snapper, which was very good; but, my husband had the venison, which was out of this world! The beer selection is pretty selective-- we enjoyed some great Belgian offerings. The chef/owner is a really nice guy who went out of his way to ensure we were happy with our meal and I really hope this place is here to stay. We took a look at the Sunday Brunch menu and are planning to give that a try in the near future, too. Bear Creek-- support your local economy and get yourselves over to J's for some great food!!!

MY REVIEW: The restaurant is hidden but not that difficult to find. The fried shrimp app was nice but more impressive was the presentation of the app and the flavors of the sauces. The house salad was really nice, and above average in size. Lots of cheese and a nice mix of field greens. My french onion soup was good but cant go any further with that. The best part... Soft shell crab was thick and meaty with 3 wonderful flavors strong "A". The snapper was equally great in flavor, cooked great, but portion was a little stingy. The presentation of the food and the flavors would rate a strong "B" overall. Great value as well!

The Bad.... Thw waitress was probably 18 and had zero experience in LIFE and service. She didnt know the menu, beer menu, table maintenance or how to sell any item on the menu. She did provide us entertainment with her lack of everything! Luckly the food out weighed ever part of the poor service. Great find for a outerloop highway 6 restaurant. I think most people out here will find it awsome because 95% has never experienced decent dining anyways.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I had the most wonderful experience at J's Friday night. While I'd have to agree that service isn't fast, it is still excellent in that our waitress was very personable and made many food and beer recommendations per our request. We started with the Korean seafood pancake, then each of us tried different soups - my mushroom soup was an explotion of flavor. Hubby loved his soft shell crab trio, and my mouth waters at the thought of my tilapia on a nest of potato. My fish was perfectly prepared, and I can't wait to get back to J's for another helping! I wish we'd had room to try dessert, but we had indulged in several different Belgian beer selctions and had no room. Chef J joined us on the patio at the end of the night to confirm that we'd enjoyed our dining experience. He is a fascinating man with a wealth of information about beer, an absolute passion for food, and a vision of a "neighborhood" restaurant where guests feel comfortable yet truly treated to a fine meal. We drove from Cypress to Bear Creek and will do it again soon. In fact, it would be a dream come true to have J's Bistro in our neighborhood instead of theirs! Loved it!

P.S. Cigar-friendly small patio out front. Beer lovers of the world unite and come to J's for the unique beer selection. Try Orval with sliced grapefruit - or a Colorado brewed blueberry wheat. Yummy.

MY REVIEW: Needless to say, this area needed J's Bistro desperately. My partner and I had brunch there today (we usually do lunch) and enjoyed ourselves. I thoroughly appreciate the beer selection as I'm a little turned off by the wine craze here in Texas that suggests wine has only been around for a decade.

I enjoy: portobello mushroom sandwich, schnitzel sandwich, turkey melt, calamari, onion pie (though it could use more bacon) and the French onion soup. The mushroom soup is not loaded with mushrooms but good for sipping from a cup. Also, don't spend money on the bowl. The volume between the bowl and cup are pretty much the same- very common "optical illusion" restaurant trick so I won't take it personally.

Today I had the crab cakes. Though the cakes themselves were softer than I'm used to, they were very enjoyable and fairly unique. Love the poached egg on top. Monte Cristo sandwich was a tasty version of an old favorite. Have yet to go back for dinner- so I have that to look forward to. Beer prices are reasonable. Share a lambic for a desert or brunch beer. Midas Touch, Firehouse no.4, and the Blueberry wheat ale are hard to find in other establishments.

And if you are big on ambiance and being personally familiar with the chef and staff, this is your place. Everyone is very warm, accommodating, and rewards your return with elated recognition.

MY REVIEW: I had looked at all the restaurants for the 77084 and 77095 area and came across J's Bistros on here. After reading the reviews and 'googling' their name we decided we needed to see what all the hype was about...really? a gourmet restaurant in the Bear Creek area of all places?

We came on a Wednesday evening around 6:30. There were more than a dozen people there dining with us. The location isn't great and decor is ok...but we didn't care since we were there for the food. We weren't going to have high expectations on service so stayed patient. Everything was worth the hour and a half or so wait.

We ordered an the Stuffed Onion Pie as an appetizer. The description of it sounded very interesting. I'm not one for sweet potatoes but this one was DELICIOUS. They serve soup or salad with ever entree. Their salad portions are pretty big. I ordered the Soft Shell Crab Trio....It was superb. Although i think the waitress said there were 3 sauces on the plate..there were only 2. But I liked the hot sauce with it. I definitely recommend the soft shell crab. It's very filling too. My husband ordered the Snapper and loved it.

We decided we have to try dessert. We opted for the Carrot Cake. I have never had a carrot cake like the one they served. It was very good. Not your usual cream cheese icing but white chocolate ganache instead.

Overall we had a great experience. The food is definitely something you wouldn't expect in the Bear Creek Area. I highly recommend going here...again just be patient if they are short staffed. Our waitress did apologize and even gave us the dessert for free. We spent less than $50 (with tip). We'll definitely be back!

MY REVIEW: The comments of others below sum it up --- this place deserves to succeed! It offers the quality of fine dining not available elsewhere in the Bear Creek/Hwy 6 area.

My wife and I went Saturday night on the recommendation of a friend. The menu was not overly ambitious (a high complement) and allowed the chef to concentrate on the dishes he does best. It covered all the bases...meat, fish, vegetarian, seafood. I had the breast of duck, my wife had the soft shell crab and both were outstanding. The presentations were simple and elegant. Good wines (again, a limited selection but very nice)and a great beer list. They were able to offer recommendations on appropriate beer/food pairings, which is hard to find.

The chef goes from table to table like the father of the bride. He is rightfully proud of his restaurant and came around after every course to be sure all was well and answer any questions. A very nice touch. He, clearly, wants to get to know his customers and insure that they are pleased and come back.

This restaurant is in a non descript strip mall and, if you weren't looking for it, you probably wouldn't know it's there. We were there on a Saturday night and there were only a few tables filled. As the word on this place gets out, I hope that changes. There are no other places in the area that offer fine dining (at an affordable price)and, as I said, this one deserves to make it.

My wife and I will definitely be back regularly.

MY REVIEW: J's is the best restaurant in the Hwy6/Bear Creek area! We've been a few times, and each time the food is superb - definitely a cut above the standard Houston chains up and down Hwy 6.

The tuna is excellent, the chicken is flavorful and hearty, and the soft shell crab trio has three lovely sauces (our favorites were the curry and spicy). The beer menu has many unique selections.

The chef comes out to speak to the diners, which is personal and charming. He obviously loves cooking, and wants his patrons to enjoy his food - which we do!!!

MY REVIEW: The night that my friends and I went out, we were the only customers here, but as it was a very rainy night, that might have been the cause. Our waitress who was also the hostess, was very good and kept our drinks refreshed. We ordered steaks, and the softshell crab. Highly recommend the fried soft shell crab and salad appetizers! They were excellent. The steak wasn't very good, pretty mediocre.

For dessert we had the creme brulee which was also pretty standard, and although they claim they have any time of beer you'd like they did not have the beer my friend requested.

MY REVIEW: My husband saw an article on the Preview. That was the only advertisement we saw about J's Bistro. It sounded too good to be true, we just had to find out ourselves about this place. The restaurant is simple and clean, and the people are very warm. The food is heavenly. We thoroughly enjoyed the soft shell crabs with 3 dipping sauces. My husband enjoyed the Belgian beer. The complimentary mushroom appetizer before our entree and later the strawberry/orange sorbet was a very pleasant surprise. This is definitely a gem of a place. We even ordered a vegetable side dish off the menu and we were graciously accomodated. Please spread the word out to your family and friends.

MY REVIEW: I had heard a few things...little whispers about a place called J's Bistro in a spot which hasn't seen much luck in years past. Hmmmm, ok, we'll give it a try, read some reviews and surely they can't all be wrong. We NEED decent dining spots out here in the Bear creek area, we're crying for 'em. J obviously heard the call. Our party of 6, including some beer aficionados, gave the food and beer selection a huge thumbs up.

I will shout from the rooftops, Please give this place a try. I want this place to succeed...it deserves to succeed. There were only two other tables while we were there. Won't be the case for long. It is (as stated by others) in a non-descript strip center and still retains the same basic layout it did when Mr. Gatti's occupied it. It is cozy, comfortable and warm. Not a tremendous amount of money has gone into the redecoration...and to that I say "Hooray"! The effort has obviously gone into the menu and the food.

J is a master! This quality of the food, beer selection, service, menu selections, were something you would expect to see in the Heights, Inner Loop, etc. The menu is not huge, but covers all the basics with amazing flair. Including a very nice Vegetarian selection for those so inclined. J himself came out after we had settled and ordered drinks to give us a little starter to whet our appetites. Little mushroom cakes, breaded in panko and sautéed...yummy!

There were three types of bread brought to the table which were wonderful. One of which was a nutty cranberry bread which went great with the butter which was slightly sweetened. We had several starters, including Mushroom Soup, French Onion Soup and J's Stuffed Onion Pie with Yam, Bacon, Scallions served with a homemade garlic ranch dressing and a bar-b-que sauce. (going to have that one again...it was huge and easily shared by two...or three!)

For our mains, we had the braised short ribs which were excellent (I split an order with my daughter and the staff did the "splitting" in the kitchen...nice touch), Tilapia with Potato Nets, Flat Iron Steak, Sirloin Steaks and Seared Tuna Medallions (pronounced "to die for" by everyone who tried them) Everything perfectly cooked. Dessert tried were the Crème Brulee, Carrot Cake, and Silk Chocolate Cake with Belgium Chocolate Ganache. All perfect! Prices very reasonable.

We will be back...sooner than later and can't wait to try the Sunday Brunch, the menu looked yummy!

MY REVIEW: Interior decor is ok, food is very good, service is also up to par. This is what I called affordable exquisite dining. If all you care are excellent food and service this is the place to go. By far this is the best restaurant in the entire stretch from I-10 and Hiway 6 to 249 and FM 1960 hands down. Other higher price range restaurant in the area does not match the food here. Go and judge for yourself.

MY REVIEW: Based on reviews found here, I took my wife to J's Bistro for dinner on Friday night. We enjoyed it so much we could hardly wait to go back for Sunday brunch. We've been highly impressed with every thing ordered so far and we will definetly be going back (to sample more of their menu). They're located in a strip shopping center in front of L*uby's, in Bear Creek. It is still fairly new and not yet "discovered"... meaning it is not over crowded and every order gets plenty of attention to the details.

Several other restaurants have tried this location and either closed or moved on. We usually take such history as a bad sign. However, my wife took home extra menues for this one and is sharing them with all our neighbors... we really want this place to suceed so we can keep going back.

Friendly people, excellent service and great food. I don't want to knock any other restaurants in the area but, in my opinion you would have to drive some way to find another restaurant of this caliber.

MY REVIEW: “Earth to Annie! Earth to Annie! Where are you Annie?”

“I’m floating on a cloud of ecstasy, having just dined at J’s Bistro, right in my suburban neighborhood. My husband is here with me! I ordered the grilled chicken breast. It was cooked with the most delicate, yet tasty, spices and sauce, then carefully placed on a generous bed of perfect potatoes, sided with cubed squash, sliced carrots and broccoli, and topped with sautéed mushrooms. Lewis ordered the soft shell crabs, each generous portion placed in three different dipping sauces on a lovely triangular plate, and accompanied by spinach risotto, artfully centered amongst the crabs. We both metaphorically licked our plates clean and barely had room to share a crème brulee for dessert. But, we easily managed this after taking our first bites of the creamy goodness. Then we were wrestling over the last delectable spoonfuls. Alas, we must come back down to earth and have sandwiches for lunch tomorrow. But J’s has given us $5 gift certificates to use at our next visit, which will be soon, I hope! Where are YOU?”
