MY REVIEW: I had very high expectations for this place but was very disappointed. I LOVE my sweets, especially cupcakes. I ordered three of their most popular cupcakes; tres leches, turtle, and red velvet. All the cakes were dry and not moist how one would want a cupcake to be. The 'cream cheese' icing on the red velvet tasted like they forgot to put the sugar in the mix. I MAY return to try the cookies and cakes, but as far as the cupcakes go, NEVER AGAIN!

MY REVIEW: Excellent cupcakes. Moist cake; fluffy, smooth & not too sugary frosting; beautiful yet unrefined appearance. Loved them. I would definitely recommend you try them! The carrot cupcake was divine. The tres leches cupcake was as well. It was a little too milky/wet for my taste, but that is the nature of tres leches.
Our service was great, but manager was there. The kitchen area is a fun a great idea for toddlers. Wish the pots and pans weren't actually made of metal (talk about hurting your ears when they are banging constantly on the concrete floor!). Cute idea though and does entertain the little ones. This is a great place for moms to meet up and chat.
Would definitely go back.

MY REVIEW: Great desserts - horrible customer service. I come here to get goodies for the office as well as my clients so Ive spent a good amount here. I usually get awesome service when the owners are there but today was a whole different story. I came before the lunch crowd because I was picking up a huge order. I dont think that mattered because the girl who helped us was so slow. When I say slow - im talking about my little 12 year old niece could of done a faster and better job. She knew we were a little aggravated so instead of picking up the pace she decided to go at an even slower pace. Come on - how hard is it to put cupcakes in a box? Overall, I spent $120 - yes $120 on cupcakes and got this kind of service. At one point she even asked us if we were in a hurry. What difference does it make? Unless the owners are there, I dont think I will be placing large orders again. Dont get me wrong, the desserts are good and so is the food next door but I think good customer service is really important especially when you're paying this much.

MY REVIEW: The cupcakes here are delicious. I've tried other cupcake places in Houston but this place beats them all. The cake is moist and every flavor is delicious. The only down side is that the staff can be rude when you try to place an order over the phone. Good customer service is also important over the phone. Also, it seems like the selection isn't as much as it was when they first opened. My favorite flavors are the carrot cake and flourless raspberry chocolate cupcake.

MY REVIEW: First visit and I'm so happy I finally went inside!!! I had been tempted by the cute sign passing by on my way to American Apparel for months! But I had been really reluctant to go inside since I knew my sweet tooth would get the best of me.
My mother and I stopped by this past weekend and we were extremely impressed!!! The cupcakes were the perfect little mini muffin tin size, which in my opinion was fabulous because then we were able to try three without getting full on just one! Our favorite was the strawberry shortcake cupcake with it's fresh strawberries, moist yellow cake with a light cream filling and a moist yet toasty french biscuit on top of it all sprinkled lightly with powdered sugar. It was too die for! We also tried the gingerbread cupcake and the tres leches cupcake, which were both fantastic. Being from New Mexico we're both very very picky about our tres leches and this cupcake really hit a high note. We also decided to sample two cookies which were the oatmeal chocolate chip, and the peanut butter and jelly cookie (my new fave!) I think everyone that goes in needs to try the peanut butter and jelly cookie! It's simply genuis!
The shop was alittle messy and noisy since they were going through construction to open a new side of the shop which will turn the whole place into a lunch bistro...but if the foods anywhere as good as the cupcakes, cookies, and icy cold skim milk, I'll definitely come back for more!

MY REVIEW: The Cupcake Wars have officially reached Houston. I eagerly awaited the opening of s*ugarbaby (what took so long?), but I'm still a die-hard cookie jar fan. Their cakes are the best I've had anywhere (including the new S*prinkles in Dallas), they're cheaper than the competition, and unlike some places around town, the cupcakes here are always fresh and moist. Cookie also FINALLY has a menu that lists what flavors are available on what days -- ending my frustration/disappointment when the Strawberry Shortcake was not on the menu on some of my past visits, and they couldn't tell me when it would be. I'll keep checking out the new kids in town, but so far no one can touch Cookie jar.

MY REVIEW: What happened to the selection of cupcakes? I've been here in the past, but on this visit was disappointed with a limited selection of cupcakes and below average cookies. I'll give it another try in hopes it was just an off day!

MY REVIEW: I read about this place in Alison Cook's blog, and stopped by on a Saturday on my way to visit a friend. I was going to get a cupcake to go, but the display was so beautiful that I had to get an assortment. When I got to my friend's house, and she opened the box of cupcakes, her eyes were wide with delight. We tested 4 of the cupcakes, and left a couple for her husband and son. The vanilla cupcake with strawberries and whipped cream was perfection, and was our favorite, followed by the delicious carrot cupcake. The cream cheese frosting works better with the spices and sweetness of the carrot cake than with the red velvet cake. None of the frostings are overly sweet, so in most cases, they enhance the cake, rather than competing with it. But I think the red velvet could stand up to a sweeter frosting. All of the cupcakes that we tried were perfectly moist, beautiful and just the perfect size. I'll definitely be back for more.

MY REVIEW: The Cookie Jar has become a regular hang-out for me and my girlfriends. I love that we can have a latte (they even have decaf espresso freshly ground!) while our kids play, and I don't have to worry about them destroying the coffee bean display or staining the carpet. This is a haven for kids, with a table with lots of Thomas trains and great games for my younger son like Candyland and a Dora memory game. And, last but definitely not least, the desserts are great here. The cupcakes are too die for -- amazing frosting, and a nice dense, moist cake. I know it's boring, but the vanilla is my favorite. The MM cookies and the decorated cookies are favorites for the kids. We like to meet up here after school in the afternoon, but I've also brought my husband and kids on the weekends twice and we've all had a great time. The boys don't tire of the entertainments here, and I love the coffee and cupcakes. You should definitely check out this bakery.

MY REVIEW: The cupcakes are rich and very dense, not at all like commercial cupcakes, which is good. They are, however, small for the price and the frosting lacks discernible flavor. The coffee was standard issue convenience store. I really do have to quibble with the atmosphere: paper plates and cups, plastic utensils, soda machine in full view. I think the whole idea of eating an expensive cupcake would be justified if the setting delighted or indulged my inner child.

MY REVIEW: This place is GREAT!! The pastry chef is very helpful and the cupcakes are sooooo delicious. I tried the chocolate fudge with buttercream cupcake and was not very impressed since I was expecting it to be fudgier. HOWEVER, the carrot cake cupcake was FANTASTIC!! The icing and the moisture of the cake was perfect. The cupcakes were not over priced either.

MY REVIEW: The Cookie Jar is an absolute joy to visit! I've tried the cupcakes and the chocolate cake is my favorite (so far) delicious, moist and flavorful. The buttercream icing has just the right amount of sweetness. The truffles are as pretty as they are delicious. I've tried at least 10 different flavors! And will definitely go back for more. Cookies are great!

MY REVIEW: Great boutique bakery. Don't go here expecting a million choices, but everything I've tried here has been outstanding. I'm especially crazy about the peanut butter cookies -- there's one with a raspberry center that's addictive -- and the chocolate cookies. I'm not a big cupcake fan, and I've never understood the whole cupcake mania that's so big in New York, but I have to admit that The Cookie Jar's cupcakes have won me over. The cake is fantastic, and the frosting is not too sweet. I prefer the vanilla to the chocolate, but my husband would say the chocolate is better. When they have it, the snickerdoodle is insane -- it's like a donut but in cupcake form and rolled in cinnamon and sugar. Definitely worth the calories (but try not to think about calories when you're here -- way too many temptations). Highly Highly Recommended.

MY REVIEW: I would HIGHLY recommend taking the trip to go the The Cookie Jar. First off the chocolates are outrageous and you will not find chocolates like this anywhere else. The selection was great and they are so good you know they don't stay in the case for long. Try the s'mores and keylime, they are great!
The cupcakes are the best I have tasted. Having had cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery in NYC, which was not worth the wait, these cupcakes blow those away. The cake is moist and the toppings are perfect. The flavor combinations are nothing like you have ever seen before. The cookies at christmas time were also fabulous! The cutout cookies were so tasty and festive, like what grandma would bake. Try the mudslide cookie if you are chocoholic, you will never taste anything like this one anywhere else. These are not you average store made type of cookies. Where else can you find a place where they will bake up a batch of cookies for you on the spot? And you get to pick your mix-in's too! Everyone is so very nice there and the Executive Pastry Chef is always there to help you make a great selection. I will be feeding my sweet tooth there quite often. Make the trip. its worth it!

MY REVIEW: I went in to buy 4 cupcakes. I picked from their very small selection and took my treats home. When I got home I tasted each and was very disappointed. The cake was dense and compacted. It was not moist at all. The icing left a funny taste in your mouth, the buttercream did not taste like buttercream. I was disappointed as I was looking forward to a scrumptious cupcake and ended up throwing them away...wasting $10.83. I would advise filling your cupcake needs elsewhere.

MY REVIEW: In my opinion, cupcakes are all about the frosting and all the frostings here that I've tried have been great. I tried one cupcake with a nutella fudge frosting that was fantastic, and their red velvet has a really good cream cheese frosting. I was sceptical about the vanilla because it seems kind of boring, but it was actually very good -- a nice moist cake topped with an excellent traditional buttercream. This is a real neighborhood bakery -- the selection varies every day, and sometimes they're out of a flavor they had earlier in the day, which can be disappointing. But, they told me that if I call ahead they'll make whatever flavor I want for no extra cost, which is pretty cool.

MY REVIEW: Completely unremarkable in my opinion; more a retailer of ordinary stuff than an actual baker or confectioner. The candies and cookies are better at plenty of places nearby, Krafts*men, Who*le Foods, Rain*drop Chocolates. Rooting for a good place there since Diedrich's vanished, but what a let down.

MY REVIEW: This bakery reminds me of New York. It's kind of hard to find, hidden between two ladies boutiques on Westheimer, but definitely worth looking. I'm a huge cupcake fanatic -- I've stood in line for cupcakes Magnolia Bakery in NYC and Sprinkles in LA. The Cookie Jar's cupcakes beat everything I tried at Magnolia and Sprinkles -- they're super fresh and moist, and the cupcakes have the perfect cake to frosting ratio. Their buttercream is THE BEST EVER. Everything is made right there -- you can see them bring out fresh cupcakes frequently. I don't know why it took so long for cupcakes to arrive in Houston -- I just hope the long lines don't arrive here too.

MY REVIEW: This place has the best cookies I have ever tasted! Especially the gingerbread and the chocolate chip/peanut butter cup, they are simply to die for. Also, the chocolates and the cupcakes are amazing. They look too pretty to eat, but they are delicious and have very unusual flavors. Lattes are good, too. Really cute place! A friend of mine had her kids' bday party there, too (cookie decorating), and said it turned out great. FYI, if you are looking for parking, they have a lot in the back.

MY REVIEW: I consider myself somewhat of a cookie afficianado, and these were some of the best cookies I've ever had. Other desserts were equally as good, including great brownies and bars. Very nice owners. Highly recommended. Go check this place out and support a local, indepedently run bakery.
