MY REVIEW: This is a well kept secret at least so far. I have only been in for lunches and this little place has the best business lunch special ever for around $10

Everyone we have taken there thought the food was great and I haven't had anything there that wasn't excellent.

Service was good too.

MY REVIEW: We came to celebrate my Swiss friend's birthday. Since we are all of European decent and also all had been to Paris, we were very impressed by the food as well as by the service. The nice touch here is that there are tableclothes and cloth napkins.

I had two appetizers and both the mussels and the crabcake were excellent.

My husband had quiche Lorraine and onion soup. As he is a retired professional chef I was glad that he had only praise. Our guest was very happy with the crepe and raspberry creme brulee. And I must mention that the Kir Royal was excellent.

MY REVIEW: The chef/owner is recognizable from the old B*asil's and I was surprised to find him hiding in Bellaire.

In a very resaonable priced evening for four, the quality was exceptional, especially the seafood.

Crab cakes, baked brie and mussels are recommended as appetizers, the pate being a bit to strong on the liver taste. The Blue Corn Snapper and the Veal Scallopini were amongst the best I have had in a Houston restaurant for a decade and the shrimp looked good too.

The staff is competant but a little short on English at times and on a busy Saturday night it was a welcome aspect.

The downside is that at 9.30 we were the last people left in the restaurant and were hurried out before being offered dessert etc.

MY REVIEW: We so enjoyed discovering this little bistro last night ! In this casual but smart new local find (in a pleasant corner of Bellaire near 610) we found that we could relax with friends over fresh classic salads and inspired seafood followed by a dessert that was charming and light. And it was all such great value ! The staff were warm and welcoming, the interior was fresh and crisp and our server was very helpful in guiding us through menu choices, comparing and contrasting dishes very well. My wife said her lemon sole dressed with a white crab sauce was perhaps the best she'd ever tasted - and she's pretty discerning ! I enjoyed my huge crab cake starter, served with slices of toasted baguette, and this could well have been a meal. The grilled halibut special that followed was sensational, however, topped with shrimp and served with grilled vegetables - a sheer delight. Dessert was an indulgence but we shared a raspberry creme brulee which delivered an utterly delicious melange of flavours. I can still taste it. The limited wine list could be improved and this should be done anyway but in the meantime a simple, rapid and popular solution would be to allow BYO and charge corkage. Nevertheless the wonderful food, good service, great value and local character make this is a local gem we shall be returning to often !

Pros: Food, service, relaxed casual environment

Cons: Wine list needs improvement - BYO would be fantastic

MY REVIEW: Being our first time here, I asked the waiter to surprise me. I wanted seafood, particularly white meat fish. He presented us with Blue Corn Snapper with mango sauce that was the best fish I've ever tasted. It was succulent and juicy and tender. For desserts we had a raspberry creme brulee'. It was the best.

The service here was also without fault. I will definitely be coming back.

MY REVIEW: I was in the restuarant on New Years Eve. This was the best filet I have had in years. You could cut it with a fork.I have recently dined at M*orton's and V*ic& Anthony's within the last month. They have nothing on this place. The pate and crab cakes were wonderful too. I highly recommend this place.Ts was a wonderful dining experience.

MY REVIEW: A solid boutique chef run establishment. The staff is personable and service oriented more so than polished. This isn't a white cloth "T*ony's" type of restaraunt. It is a very nice neighborhood Bistro, with a menu that is priced right. There is a full bar and the wine list is more than acceptable. You wont be disappointed.

MY REVIEW: We were really looking forward to the food based on the reviews on this website but were very disappointed. I'll start off with the positives: friendly service, reasonable prices, quaint low key ambiance in a great location, reasonable prices on wine bottles. Now on to the food. My husband and I have become true fans of french food since our 3 year move to Chicago. Now that we have returned to Houston we keep hoping to find a great place to satisfy our love of french food. Unfortunately the food here was mediocre. As someone mentioned the food is old school continental more than french. The sauce served with my beef was not good at all - the lemon was overpowering. I was forced to scrap the sauce off the beef. The sides that accompanied the meal are boring and drab - ratatouille and very dry flavorless and nearly burnt potatoes. We love mussels and they are usually cooked in a delicate white wine broth that enhance the mussels but the mussels here merely sat in a pool of butter sauce rather than a wine infused broth. The flavor was good but way to heavy and overpowering for the small mussels. Finally the wine list was unimpressive and the selection of white wines limited and outdated; it consisted mostly of boring chardonnays. Chanterelle please bring your wine list into the year 2007!!

MY REVIEW: The drive to Bellaire was 100% worth it. The service is friendly and quick and the food is outstanding. I had the Crab Cakes which, as described, have NO bread crumbs and are made 100% with lump crab and a few crawfish tales. The accompanying remoulade was delicious, as was the lime-flavored rice. My dining partner's chicken and asparagus crepe trumped my dish, however. The generous amount of asparagus was a surprise. Our frozen chocolate truffle dessert was a perfect finish to the meal. The wine list is pretty good - nothing spectacular, and the prices are average. I feel like some of the choices could be a bit more original (Enough with the La Crema and Cakebread already!! There are MUCH better wines available at lower prices!) We will definitely return - this is a true find!

MY REVIEW: We had dinner there on Tuesday night and it was so good that we returned on Saturday. Besides the wonderful food, you can actually carry on a conversation without having to scream. We started with brie with apple chutney and it was delicious. The escargo was also very good. The first night I had veal with crab meat and it was outstanding. My husband ordered the rainbow trout and liked it so much that he ordered it a second time. All the different people who were with us were pleased with their selection. The bread arrived at out table piping hot and was as good as I have ever been served. The rasberry creme broule is outstanding. I am already thinking about what I will choose next time.

MY REVIEW: Living in Bellaire, I was so excited about a new bistro and the added title of "wine bar" sounded like something new for the area. I have now eaten there twice. The restaurant has great possiblities but needs to be more "polished" in certain areas. For one thing, if you are touting "wine bar," it is odd not to offer a variety of wines by the glass. At Chanterelle, you must buy a bottle to try a reputable glass of wine. The by-the-glass wines are from one vineyard and they aren't as good as they could be. Offer a variety!!

On my first visit, I ordered the lamb and it was satsifactory, once I sent it back to be cooked to "medium." The second visit, I ordered trout with lemon butter caper sauce. It was slightly fishy and dry.

On the second vist, at 7:30, very few tables were seated. No one (owner? chef?) dropped by the table to welcome us. The wait staff was slow.

The ambience is lovely and the prices are good. Therefore, I hope they get their act together regarding the wine and the food because the Bellaire area needs new eateries!!

MY REVIEW: Living in the neighborhood we were excited to see a new restaurant open in the shopping center. Although the menu is not "cutting edge" we did enjoy our two meals there very much. The dishes we had were hot, the portions nicely sized and the prices were very reasonable. I thought the wine was serviceable, but I am hardly a connossieur. Although the waitstaff was hardly polished, what they lacked in training they compensated with enthusiasm and amiability. Chanterelle Bistro provides a nice alternative to the other two restaurants located in the same shopping center, and a quiet, pleasant place to enjoy a delicious meal.

MY REVIEW: We go to A*untiePasto's a lot and Chanterelle is in the same strip center. We kept looking for it to open over several months and we had high expectations but our first time there was dissapointing. Prices are not high at all but food is not very good either. Menu is "old school" Continental -something out of 1980's- with no inovative items. It's supposed to be a wine bar but there was no selection by the glass. The one house red available was really bad.As far as service, one only hopes that it would improve as time goes by.

MY REVIEW: A great new restaurant in Bellaire!!

The food was very good, service was good, they have a good selection of wine, and a full bar. The ambiance was a welcome change in this area! Dim lighting, table clothes, flowers, candles, nice decor. This is not a hangout for people with small children. It's quiet, intimate, and relaxing.

Will definitely return for lunches and dinners!! A+ to everything!!!
