MY REVIEW: We really like this place. The lunch menu is tasty. We got the grill which came with two appetizers (hummus and a tasty chicken dip) and wonderful grilled bread. Then grilled chicken and beef kabobs atop salad. It was delicious, the service is good and the prices are very affordable. I have been there twice lately and found it very consistent.

Food is still good, Drinks are cheap but the fun is gone !!!!!

I would still recommend this place if you're looking for a tasty mediterrian treat. Eventhough I've reduced my visits.

MY REVIEW: This restaurant is phenomenal. It's been around for about a year. The restaurants food genre is Middle Eastern. The second you walk in the restaurant every staffer says hello. Food is delivered in a timely manner and there are always great lunch deals. Happy Hour is from 3-9pm and they serve $1.99 margaritas! Almost every time I eat at the restaurant the head chef always comes and personally make sure the food is to our liking. This place also has great night events like belly dancers. The atmosphere is very relaxed and can range from a nice lunch meeting (personal or business) to a very hip, trendy, chic dinner. Anyways, I love this place over the times I've been. I was born in Houston and live in California but I come to Houston about three times a year and I always pay my visit at Paw Paw's. Hope this place interest you!

MY REVIEW: I have been to Paw Paw twice. My barber (Ben from Campus Cuts) recommended this place as well as another Persian competitor to me. To be honest, I really prefer this place. Service is more personalized here. The sampler appetizer was wonderful, and to contradict Debrc827, it was not pita bread. To me the hummus had just the right amount of garlic. This restaurant is Mediterranean, not Greek, and has may Persian influences. Last visit I had the beef barg and my wife had the Iskender (Persian translation of "Alexander"). The portions were large enough for lunch for us the next day.

That being said, this place is a bargain. We haven't had much time to go out lately, but we will go back to Paw Paw!

MY REVIEW: I love this restaurant and don't let anyone tell you otherwise, it is a great place to have lunch, dinner or a party!

I am crazy about the grilled lamb chops and my boyfriend always goes for the mixed grill.

The apetizer dips are delicious and free!! The rice is great and the meats are fresh tender and full of flavor. There is definately a great atmosphere the friendliest staff and great food.

I brought a staff of 20+ people for a lunch there and everyone loved it. This weekend I will have my birthday party there for 17 people knowing it will be PERFECT!

Bring on the Lamb....OPA!

MY REVIEW: My husband and I visited after it was reccommended to us. We ordered drinks at the bar. After looking over the menu, we proceeded to order appetizers. Nothing....nothing we ordered was available. Literally, there were two items on the entire menu that could be prepared. It became a bit hilarious! We had our drinks and left.....won't return.

MY REVIEW: I visited this restaurant tonight and left without finishing my first drink. Nice atmosphere, poor location. I arrived upon a recommendation; ordered a filet and received a ribeye. Upon questioning the mistake the server tried to get me to take the ribeye and then explained that they didn't have any filets. When I asked for the tab on my half completed drink the server explained that I wouldn't have to pay for the steak... My reply was, "apparently". I left.

MY REVIEW: I have visted PawPaw's many times and I have to totally disagree with debrc827's review. They obviously do not appreciate great tasting healthy food. Maybe they should stick to Kentucky Fried Chicken because Paw Paw Bar and Grill's food is excellent. My personal favorite is the Kubedah. I definitely recommend the death by chocolate icecream. The caramel macciatto is nice to have after a meal.

Better bring your appetite and friends to this place b/c the food portions are huge and the appetizers can leave you feeling full too. I'm a workout nut and I was happy to know that all the food even dessert come from healthy ingredients. I finally found a great tasting health food place and one with friendly customer service as well.

MY REVIEW: I was looking for some good Greek food like I was used to eating at Greek tavernas and after reading all of the positive reviews of this restaurant decided we couldn't miss going here. I have to say I was disappointed. The pita bread that most raved about was nonexisitent--instead we got something resembling garlic bread, which by itself was decent but it interfered with the flavors of the 3 dips we tried. The hummus was flavorless. In fact, that is a comment that came up frequently during our meal. We ordered the stuffed grape leaves and spanakopitas as appetizers. The grape leaves were very dry and mostly tasted of cinnamon. I found myself dousing it with salt to try to infuse some flavor into it but to no avail. Same thing with the Greek salad; the dressing had absolutely no flavor. The spanokopitas were not bad. The lamb souvlaki was on the dry side. My son ordered the tofu souvlaki and commented that it was "tasteless." My husband ordered the lamb chops, which were the best thing I tasted all night. For dessert we ordered the baklava--okay, but I agree with another reviewer that it could have been crisper. We took some home with us and when I snitched some before bed time, it was already soggy. Since it was my birthday, they were nice enough to bring me something resembling cheesecake, but one bite of it seemed to grow tenfold everytime I chewed . . . I really can't adequately describe it. Definitely not cheesecake! The staff was adequate; one young lady was very friendly, especially after finding out I had lived in Greece, and I wish I could recommend this restaurant but instead felt I had to write a review that would attempt to balance out all of the positives.

MY REVIEW: It was a 30 minute drive to reach Paw Paw Grill, but it was worth it. Incredible friendly service and delicious grilled variety of meats! The appetizer of 3 dips and toasted breads was also good. The Halloumi (small slabs of grilled cheese) disappeared in no time from our plates. We had a party of 7 and two members required vegetarian dishes. The chef made a special plate of grilled egg plant and cheeses that was so tasty we all wanted to eat it.

W ordered a huge sampler plate of grilled meats and poultry (all chef’s choice) The grilled chicken breast was perfectly tender and seasoned well. The rotisserie poussin was our favorite poultry selection. All the meats were tasty too, but our favorites were the Kubideh and lamb.

We finished our meal with some Persian teas that our server recommended. We were not disappointed. We cannot wait to eat here again and again. It’s an excellent place to visit with 6 to 10 people. You can sample more menu items that way. It’s also reasonably priced for all the wonderful food you get.

MY REVIEW: Love this place that's 20 mins from me even via Westpark. It's worth it. The sampler platter is a definite high recommendation. It varies because it's the chef's choice. Constant are the 3 sauces: humus, tzatziki, and one made with creamed nuts? Chicken souvlaki is moist and delicious, rice is long grain and all separate grains and flavorful. There's a huge selection of both Greek and Persian dishes and the chef's super fresh pita bread is always a surprise - seems like every month there's something a little different about it, spices, cheeses or whatever. Staff, as said, is always friendly and attentive.

MY REVIEW: Well for starters, I just want to say that I really enjoy greek food, and I must say this place is it for me. I am always looking for places to go eat and enjoy a drink here and there. The owner and the rest of the crew are super friendly and what can I say about the food, but that is really good. I am definitely coming back and bring friends along. It is close to home and the location is great.

MY REVIEW: My husband and I wanted to try a new place "in the neighborhood" and decided on giving Paw Paw's a try. What a wonderful surprise! The servers are very helpful and informative - friendly, but not intrusive. The food was excellent, the menu was extensive and there is a wide variety from which to choose. The ambiance is great. The owner is "hands-on" and very personable and we're looking forward to repeating our experience at Paw Paw's again and again.

MY REVIEW: First of all, I'm of German heritage so please forgive the misspellings and the poor attempts at describing a culture I'm not familiar with.

My wife and I decided on trying something totally different and we opted for Greek. Coming to this website we found the above reviews and decided to give it a try. As we entered the restaurant, we were told that well over half of the establishment had been reserved for parties of 40 and 12. To me, that means that either the owners have quite a few friends, there are very few restaurants that serve this type of food . . . or the food is excellent! I don't know how many friends the owner has or how many other Greek restaurants there are in Houston, but the food is EXCELLENT!

The waitress gave us several seating options to the remaining tables they had and then was VERY well informed as to the items on the menu. She suggested that we try either a sampler platter of the appetizers or a sampler platter of the main dishes. When we said we wanted to do both she warned us at the quantity of food that we had ordered but we told her that we enjoy leftovers!

As the waitress brought out the bread and hummus and other dips, we almost overindulged right then and there. She then came out with meatballs in a type of marinara sauce (you have to remember how I started this review) of which my wife didn't want to share, and then the waitress came out with rather thickly cut grilled pork slices. THIS is what really rang a bell with me!

The pork had such a RICH SMOKE flavoring that just floored me! You could tell this wasn't some "liquid smoke as they bake it" kind of preparation, but true grilling that I have trouble getting even in better chop houses and Bar-B-Que restaurants.

OUR ONLY COMPLAINT was that the waitress brought out these deep fried egg-roll items that had a nice flavor . . . but were cold in the middle. We tried to let the waitress know so they can be aware before they served it to anyone else and were NOT trying to complain, but both she AND THE OWNER made it a point to let us know that NOTHING is frozen and all of their dishes are made fresh! This MINOR flub did not disturb the wife and I (since she was still devouring the meatballs).

Now the problem with the main course was that the wife and I had stuffed ourselves with the appetizers! The waitress warned us but . . . .

As main course was presented, my wife pointed out the lamb and told me I could have it since she's never enjoyed the dish. As I was devouring this wonderfully SMOKEY GRILLED (see the pork description above) meat and savoring the grilled vegetables, the waitress came by to check on us and my wife inquired as to how they prepared one of the two beef dishes. She pointed out that I was chewing on the beef and my wife was eating the lamb at the moment! The wife was shocked at this and it made a fantastic impression with her.

We still have some of the appetizers and a large portion of the mix grill in the fridge and it all seems to re-heat well. We enjoyed not only the food, but the attention and care given to us by both the waitress as well as the owner.

My wife and I agreed that we would NOT go back until . . . We can line up about four or six friends together and make a party out of it. It's so nice to know a new place where you can be assured you're going to WOW your friends with!

MY REVIEW: My sister and niece took me to this wonderful resturant for my 60th birthday as I wanted to eat Greek food. The service and the food were both incredible!! We got free hot, thick pita bread with 3 different sauces, and a meatball dish as well--both were excellent. The beef was mouthwatering and could almost be cut with a fork. The owner came over and greeted us. When she found out that it was my b.day she sent over a free and very delicious chocolate cheese cake. All in all it was a very wonderful experience and we all highly recommend it to everyone who wants exceptional Greek/Persian food.

MY REVIEW: This is a great restaurant. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Really good atmosphere, all the staff seemed happy and there was even impromptu dancing by the staff. My husband is greek so I am usually forced to eat at every greek restaurant that opens in the city. I have to say the food was great here, it was not greasy and heavy. My husband even says this is the best greek food in the city. We has something called halloumi which is a grilled cheese that I am still dreaming about. The tradional greek food spanakopita and kabob was wonderful. They have a great smoothie bar and coffee bar as well. It is beautifully decorated as well but not stuffy. My teenagers who are usually bored at restaurants have even asked to go back. The best thing is the owner Andea who goes around making sure everyone is happy, she has the most adorable English accent and says "wicked" all the time.

I forgot, they have a bar and the Margarita was soooo good.

MY REVIEW: This is a great new restaurant on the west side of town. The food is wonderful - I especially enjoy the fresh hot bread with four dips that is served to everyone. The last time I visited we had a party of four, and the waiter suggested that we try to Mixed Grill (not on the menu). He suggested that we get three portions instead of four since it is a lot of food. I am always impressed when a restaurant actually suggests that you order less food rather than more because they want you to be satisfied. The Mixed Grill is great because it is a sampling of the most popular dishes on the menu, and the amount for 3 was more than enough to fill us, so it was perfect! The owner is always very friendly. This is definitely a restaurant we'll be frequenting and bringing friends to.

MY REVIEW: All the good reviews about this place is right. The staff and the manager were incredibly friendly, the food was equally great. I had the Souvla with lamb and chicken. The lamb was so good, it had the texture of aged corn-fed beef and grilled to perfection. The place was spotlessly clean and very classy without the snooty air, and not crowded at all. I went to dine here about 7:30pm and there were customers seated at 2 other tables. I hope business picks up for this place, this is one place I want to return many more times.

MY REVIEW: This is a nicely appointed place with bar and restaurant areas inside, and several tables outside (located next to the P*hoenicia store). Andrea, (an owner), is welcoming the customers and is a real ambassador for what a warm and friendly host of a Greek or Cypriot home would be like.

The biggest reason to go is the fantastic food: the main dishes are mostly meat related and they are excellent. The ingredients are of the highest quality and the grilled end products are healthy and delicious. You will have a chance to try what a REALLY well made souvlaki (you can choose 2 different meats) tastes like in Greece and in a few restaurants in NY and west coast (you can take it from the horse’s mouth so to speak as I am Greek and recently moved here to be more or less disappointed from the offerings of all the GINOs – Greek In Name Only places in the Houston area). You can also try the souvla (again, typical in Greece as kontosouvli) with bigger, juicy chunks of pork, lamb, or beef.

What’s even more impressive (at least to a Greek) are the different appetizers that you have no chance to find anywhere else in Houston (and in only a few places in NY): try the haloumi cheese grilled, the lountza (smoked pork), the gigantes beans, fava (split pea beans), the salad with dates and walnuts...too many to name here. You can actually make a nice meal by just trying some of them paired with a glass of Greek wine. You can accompany all that with warm grilled bread made in the house (as pretty much almost everything you can find in the menu).

If you have room after all this try some of the home-made deserts (such as the mango coconut cheesecake they had one day) with a cup of coffee. I should also say that the prices are very reasonable. Don’t miss a chance to try what a really well executed, lip-smacking version of Eastern Mediterranean cuisine tastes like !!!

MY REVIEW: Extremely warm welcoming by owner with delicious complimentary meze and fresh pita. Much less oil is used than by many mediterranean restaurants. Terrific tabbouleh and date salad. Interesting Turkish entree served on the pita. Would be happier with crispier dough on baklava. Great homemade Greek yogurt. Very clean with terrific service. Can't wait to try some other dishes. Worth the drive.

MY REVIEW: I've been to Paw Paw twice and am planning to return many more times. The first night we went was during the 1st open hour of business. We were looking for something different and decided to stop in. We opted for patio seating the 1st time in. The owner is extremely friendly and even remembered our names the 2nd time around. The atmosphere is inviting. There's no rush to hurry through your dinner, but the service still remains prompt.

They make their own pita bread & we were given a sampling of appetizers on the 2nd visit. The humus is delicious! This place is cozy enough for a special date, and still casual for a gathering with friends. Pricing is right down the middle - there's a good range. The Iskender is so far my favorite dish...soaked pita bread with meat, drizzled in yogurt and pecans. If you like coffee, there's a plethera of selections. I've tried 3 coffees (white choc. mocha, caramel cappuccino, & butterscotch latte) so far & loved them all.

For dessert, we loved the baklava so much the 1st time in that we wanted it again...but the owner convinced us to try the chocolate cheesecake & we weren't disappointed at all. The cheesecake was the perfect temperature, flavoring, & presentation you could ask for...not too rich, but still chocolatey. And the crust was not the normal graham cracker you always get, but some mixture that included oats. Very good! And a perfect size to share between 2-3 people.

I look forward to going back & would recommend the place to anyone.

MY REVIEW: Went there with someone who's been raving about it - expecting the usual Mediterranean fare that I eat rarely. I was shocked once I saw the choices on the menu. They even have char-grilled steaks and burgers and homemade ice cream.

The thing that really caught my eye on this first visit was a walnut and date salad. I love dates but hardly ever find them on menus. This combination on the salad was wonderful. Piled high with so many sliced tomatoes the greens were almost hidden. Combine that with fresh baked pita bread served hot (and regularly) with olive oil, that would have easily made a meal but I had to try more. Their spring rolls are fried light and crispy, served with sesame sauce. We also had the appetizer sampler which included at least 4-5 different ones. Hearing I loved dates, the chef sent out a yogurt, walnut mixture with dates that was wonderful!

This new restaurant is a must try! I know I'm returning to try some of the other items and desserts and their long list of coffees.
