MY REVIEW: We decided to try this Italian Restaurant and were really pleased. The Osso Bucco was fork tender and the Chicken Picata for my wife was great. I wish I would have known I could bring my own wine. Next time for sure I will bring my wine. The service was fantastic as we were the first ones there at 5:00 PM. For sure we will be back.

MY REVIEW: I had to find a nice place for Mother's Day Brunch and found this listing for La Baraonda at this web site. I called and they had one table available and that was where our luck began. We had a great meal served with class and plated very nice.
The entire meal was very well prepared from quality ingredients. You would have thought the spinach in the salad had been picked that morning. The other reviews here often mention the friendly atmosphere where people seem to know each other and we noticed that was true. In addition most of those that were recognized had there elderly parents with them...that speaks to the quality as this was where brought their mother.
Needless to say we look forward to going back.

MY REVIEW: Fantastic little neighborhood restaurant that we can walk to! Makes me feel like I'm in a cozy, family, Italian restaurant in Boston again. Panninis are great, canneloni is to die for, veal parmagian is excellent - really everything that we all have had we have been happy with. Love this place and it is a great value for the quality.

MY REVIEW: We found La Baraonda last year and have enjoyed lunch, dinner and special occasions including anniversaries and special daddy-daughter dates. The spaghetti and meatballs, lamb and seafood dishes are delicious. We’d like to say thanks too for consistently friendly and attentive service. We heartily recommend La Baraonda to our friends and family.

MY REVIEW: Great place to eat. Gus is very friendly and knows me and my family by name. Always catering to our occasions, they are the best kept secret in houston.
Best thing on the menu: Spaghetti and meatballs - best i've ever had Best thing to drink: Iced Tea - black tea made with leaves fresh daily Pesto is the best as well
Only weak thing is my appetite since it is quenched at every visit.
Very cool itialian atmohsphere, romantic in the evenings. Great for a business lunch or a date with the Mrs.

MY REVIEW: This is a "local" restaurant for us and we are very lucky to have it in our 1960 West, area. The service is superb and elegant. The environment is tasteful and inviting with interesting pieces of art and decor. The ambiance is warm, caring and loving. If that's not enough, the food is wonderful. Homemade soup that will revive you when you are cold in body, heart, or spirit. Pasta that's even available in whole wheat (my favorite) and cooked to perfection. There are meats, chicken and seafood (I'm a veggie); my husband says they are all marvelous. AND, don't ever stop there - the desserts are 'to die for'. Don't forget though, Carl is right, the dipping sauce with the homemade bread is some of the best in the entire Houston area (so is the soup!). Do yourself a favor and visit them soon.

MY REVIEW: A fantastic find! The food is great, the service prompt, cordial and after a few visits you are one of the family! The nice part about this restaurant is that you can go for the full boat, soup to dessert and every course is delicious (my wife says "wonderful"), but you can also stop in for a light soup and a salad and its just as good. If you are in the mood for something special, just ask and they will make it for you. You sure can't find that plus a great Italian restaurant anywhere else in Houston. Anyone who lives north of I-10 should plan to try this place. You won't be disappointed Don't forget to ask for Gus' special mixture of seasonings and olive oil into which you dip the scrumptious homemade bread. Its to die for!

MY REVIEW: An excellent restaurant. The new menu - since reopening - is expanded and a definite improvement on a previously very good menu. We have sampled many items and find them all delightful. Service is very good and personnel quite friendly. BYOB is a big plus. Gus can be proud of his improvements.

MY REVIEW: Excellent food for a very fair price. Meals include salad and are all amazing. The pesto served with the bread is to die for. The desserts are wonderful as well. The fact that you can bring your own beer and wine with no corking fee is a huge strong point as well. I went today for lunch with work colleagues who had never been and they all loved it as well. The service is just as attentive at lunch as it is during dinner. The staff is very courteous and willing to please. If you don't see something on the menu, they will make it for you. Wonderful restaurant!

MY REVIEW: Colleagues and I went for lunch and enjoyed it greatly. Gus was very friendly and full of information. They have just recently reopened and I would normally be pretty tentative about a fresh kitchen but no worries here.
The pesto that the bread is served with is excellent as was the lasagna (made with a veal bolognese and a little cream in the red sauce), the chicken marsala, and the alfredo. We ate for about $10 apiece out the door and were very very happy. For that price we could have gone to Ol*ve G*rden and fed at the trough or Z*o's but would not have had near the quality.
Cloth table cloths, quiet, clean, classy, and perfect lunch portions. FYI, they do not have a license to sell alcohol and are very supportive of bringing your own bottles of wine and have plenty of glasses.
The only problem I could see was that the restaurant traffic was very light which I could not understand for a gem like this. I would truly recommend this one highly.

MY REVIEW: We are delighted to see La Baraonda has re-opened. It was dearly missed. The menu has a lot more items to offer and the food is delicious.
If you are looking for an italian restaurant with a cosy ambiance, friendly faces, and love Italian food, I truly recommend this restaurant.

MY REVIEW: This restaurant was highly recommended, we are from Boston and are use to very good italian restaurants. What a dissapointment the eggplant parmesan was served warm and was tasteless. The veal parmesan was dissapointing as well. The sauce very salty and with very little if any herbs and the veal not tender. Obviously the people who wrote these flowing reviews have never been to a good italian restaurant. We will never return even though it was a charming quiet restaurant. Unfortunately the food was substandard.

MY REVIEW: Just happened on this wonderful restaurant by accident while looking for another restaurant on this site. This is a gem of a restaurant and is THE most authentic Italian restaurant in town. My husband is part Italian and grew up in New Jersey so he definitely knows the difference. He was so surprised and couldn't give enough praises to me for finding the place and to the chef/owner Georgio.
He had the Osso Bucco and I had the lamb shank which were equally tender and delicious! Even Georgio's house salad that comes with the entree was great. It is BYOB right now which works for us too! (really hope it stays that way) I am so glad that the 1960 area has a top notch restaurant that certainly will not disappoint. We had Michael as our waiter too and he was very attentive and personable. We even changed our New Year's plans to be here instead of K*irby's!! Great food, great service, what more can you ask for?!

MY REVIEW: I came upon this spectacular restaurant by accident. I just moved to Houston from New York and was miserable because there was no edible Italian food to be found. Comming from Brooklyn I know what good Italian food is supposed to be and this is it!!! There is italian food in Houston but no "ITALIAN" food. La Baraonda is the real deal...Michael the waiter was beyond wonderful. As of today I am a regular Grazie Giorgio...Molto Benne...Bravisimo...Spettacolare

MY REVIEW: This restaurant is well-rounded in both the friendly, comfortable atmosphere and the ever so delicious food selection. I have been a few times to date and each time I am more than satisfied. The food is absolutely wonderful as well as the service. If you're looking for authentic Italian food, this restaurant will definitely not disappoint you. The atmosphere is modern and without a doubt comfortable. It is a place where you can sit for hours, eat, and just socialize. On a scale from 1 to 10, I rate Baraonda a definite 10.

MY REVIEW: La Baroanda is one of the best restaurants in Houston. It’s location is atypical for a “white table cloth” restaurant of this quality, but they say that if a restaurant is good it will draw the customers. Everything at La Baroanda is excellent from the pasta, to fish, to the Lamb. Everything is made by Georgeo; bread dough, pasta, and all sauces. The lunch specials are more then reasonable, the coffee is strong, and the deserts are to die for. You can even have a conversation and hear the person next to you. Georgeo (chef and co owner) tries to visit all the tables with a wonderful attitude and big smile. All of his staff is very helpful, friendly, and polite. I have visited both lunch and evenings, for business and with the family. Try La Baroanda and you will go back as many times as I do.

MY REVIEW: My family and I have been going to this restaurant since March 06 and I have been reluctant to submit my review for a simple reason....I want to keep this place all to myself!! Being part Italian, I am pretty picky about my Italian food. Giorgio brings back and surpasses memories of my grandmother's cooking (sorry grandma). The red sauce is to die for. Not heaving but very flavorful. The menu is good, but if you don't see what you want on the menu, ask chef Giorgio if you can get what you want. The man performs miracles out of that kitchen. Every time we go there it seems that I try something new, I have never been one to be adventourous in this way, but with Giorgio you never come up disappointed.
The atmosphere is wonderful, the service great, and the prices are very reasonable. I will warn you, this isn't O*live Garden, so if you want fast, drive-thru type meals, stay away. This is truly dining the way it was meant to be done. Enjoy!!! Just don't tell too many of your friends.

MY REVIEW: After one or two visits you are family and it's like going home. The food is like mama makes because Giorgio's recipes are mama's and he loves to cook for you. Whether it is dinner for 67 (which I have done) or 2, it's a "memory" experience. The food is always fresh, delicious and presented as a perfect picture.

MY REVIEW: Having made La Baraonda a regular stop on my daily lunch schedule I can firmly say that Giorgio (the sole owner and chef) prepares the BEST italian food in Houston.
The atmosphere is quite comfortable with out being too "casual". Pleasant lighting, beautiful decor, and table cloths and napkins are all quite tasteful.
Lunch specials are the best deal you can find. Delicious pasta AND salad or soup for under 6 dollars!
I dont know how he does it but Giorgio is my new favorite chef.

MY REVIEW: We have never had a bad experience at La Baraonda. The food is excellent and the presentation attractive. The Pollo Picata is the best I have ever had. Gus and his wait staff are very friendly, attentive and remember their customers after one or two visits. Chef Georgio can be seen making the rounds of the tables when he has time and never met a stranger. The atmosphere is relaxed, this is not fast food and is worth the moderate wait. Great place for a dinner date or to take your friends. We are going to be regulars.
