Seoul House Restaurant

MY REVIEW: I think this place is closed. Went on a Wednesday for lunch and the Seoul House parking signs had been moved into the restaurant.

MY REVIEW: As a Korean-American, I grew up eating Korean food and, when I wasn't home, I went out of my way to sample different Korean restaurants all over the United States: Seattle, San Francisco, Dallas, LA, NYC, DC, Baltimore, Atlanta, etc. This place has got to be one of the top 10 Korean restaurants I've been to in terms of quality and price.
First time I went there I ordered their Sundubu (soft tofu) soup, and with the first spoonful, I was blown away. Considering that this isn't even a tofu restaurant, the quality of the broth was excellent, FAR better than the Tofu V*illage down the street, not to mention the fact that it costs only 7 or 8 dollars for the pot of soup. I was also impressed with the self-serve banchan (side dishes) they had: fried oden, fried tofu, kimchi, potatoes cooked in sweet soy sauce, cucumber kimchi, soy bean sprouts, mung bean sprouts, seaweed in vinegar, and eggplants cooked in soy sauce. The side dishes weren't the best I've ever had (think of it as something Korean family might be storing in their fridge), but the self-serve part and the selections make up for any deficiencies.
I went a 2nd time with a friend and ordered their seafood pajun (seafood scallion pancakes) and boneless galbi. The pajun (11 or 12 bucks) was full of shrimp and squid pieces and it was obvious they made a point not to skimp out on those, although I thought the pajun could have been cooked a bit longer to a more crispy texture. The galbi (boneless was 16 bucks, with bones was 14) was very well marinated; some of the other Korean restaurants in Houston could learn a lesson or two from their marinade. The galbi looked like it was grilled over an open flame and had that wonderful aroma of grilled meat. It came with a side of cool lettuce salad in soy sauce/vinegar/red peppers, which surprised me because this salad is usually served in more BBQ-oriented restaurants.
However, despite their phenomenal food, I was quite puzzled by the lack of patronage. The two times I've been there (once on a weekend evening) I've only seen one other table besides mine. I think this may have to do with their decor. The restaurant feels like what a Korean diner might feel like, although I think that is exactly the feeling the owners were trying to go for, especially with the self-serve banchan bar and their ordering station in front of the restaurant for to-go orders. I think maybe the people who go to Korean restaurants go for a more full-service feel than a diner feel, and they avoid places that may not meet this expectation. But this doesn't make sense either, as my dining experience has been full-service.
Regardless, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a quick, delicious Korean meal for a low price.

MY REVIEW: strong point: the all you can eat side dishes bar *they have practically all the usual sides
weak point: the food off the menu *the meat there isn't the best of quality. My friend got the kalbi and the meat was all tough and not flavorable.
This place is overall alright. Ths staff is friendly, great concept with the side dish bar, but the food on the menu is lacking. I went here because it was one of the closer korean restaurant to me. Recently, like yesterday a korean restaurant opened up right by me on richmond and kirkwood who has better kalbi than Seoul House. To me, mostly all the Korean Restaurants on Bellaire are lacking.

MY REVIEW: The service is very friendly and fast. The menu is not extensive, but the kimchi bar is nice. We ordered the rice bowl in the hot stone which was good, but I would have liked more meat in it. The beef ribs were good and comes on a hot plate. It's not cook it yourself at the table. The BBQ beef was a little dry. Overall, nice people and okay food.

MY REVIEW: The service was excellent with wait staff being very attentive in refilling drinks and clearing finished plates, even with the restaurant being completely full of customers. If you frequent some of the other Korean restaurants, then you will know how rare a commodity this is. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. We actually over ordered thinking that the servings would be small, as is the norm. But we were happy to take home the left-overs.
We were here for lunch on Sunday and they had the lunch boxes available, which is nice because it allows you try a variety of dishes.
We will definitely be back to eat again.

MY REVIEW: Excellent service, clean, new, roomy, reasonably priced restaurant. The kimchi bar was very good. The soup, BBQ beef, seafood pancake, and BBQ pork we ordered were all great. And, yes we know the Korean name for them all. You can get excellent food reasonably quickly. It's great Korean food without requiring a 2 hour stay! We also bought 2 cute Seoul House tee-shirts for our Korean guest and our daughter. We'll be back.

MY REVIEW: This is one of our favorite Korean restaurants! We go at least once a month. We love the kimchi bar, corn tea and lunch boxes -- this is one of the few places that have lunch boxes on the weekends. The kimchi bar is always fresh and well stocked even if you arrive shortly before closing. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is very friendly. We highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner.

MY REVIEW: By far the best Korean food in town. Everytime when I miss my mother home cooking, I come here. The food taste great and the vegetables are fresh. The place is very clean and comfortable. I like the kimchi bar very much.
Try Galbi-gui, it's to die for!
