MY REVIEW: A most memorable evening. It may be a barn from Kentucky but it has a world class list of artists performing. My wife and went to see Keiko Matsui from Japan who you would expect to see only in a Performance Arts Venue. From the stage Keiko told the crowd that she was impressed. The acoustics were as good as she had ever experienced anywhere. While she had a very hard time pronouncing Dosey Doe it was obvious that she loved the venue. Having seen her before I can say that this was an exceptional performance.
My astute wife realized that we paid as much to see her before as we did at Dosey Doe and this time a wonderful meal was included and sat so much closer. It was a real treat to go and relax not having to worry about getting in and out of a restuarant and rushing to the music hall.

MY REVIEW: The venue is beautiful and ideal for small intimate concerts given by your favorite artists. The building itself is a wonder in craftsmanship and the decorations foster a homey, nostalgic feel. The waitstaff are friendly and personable. Service is much better than average. The food and drink are very good, but not necessarily gourmet cuisine.
My wife and I will probably return, and we definitely recommend this venue to our friends. This venue is more suited for groups rather than just a date. Now all of this good service and good food in a great setting comes at a price. Seat prices are based on dinner and a show...period. There are select events that charge a cover only, but they are rare. Ticket prices are more expensive than you would find at a Woodlands Pavilion, but the venue and overall experience is more intimate and enjoyable.
Keep in mind that at the end of the night, you are expected to leave a gratuity based on the FULL TICKET PRICE, NOT just the price of your meal. We asked the waitstaff and this is what they told us. This makes a HUGE difference in the size of the gratuity and, therefore, the size of your final bill.
So, all things considered, its a great venue and an enjoyable experience. However, it's going to cost you. This is not the place to go if you are on a budget. This is more for very special occasions where you can afford to splurge.

MY REVIEW: What vision the owner must have. It is the kind of place that my friends and I have always thought would be a winner and Dosey Doe is! Great food, live music so close to the audience, wonderful acoustics, and a beautiful room to have it all in. I hesitated in writing this as I know that word is going to get out and my secret treasure is going to be found by the world, however, people need to know that the world is a better place because of Dosey Doe. My food recomendations: The Ginormus Chicken Fried, the bread pudding, and their "Roast Master's Best" Coffee!!! Colin Hay was amazing.

MY REVIEW: My first visit to Dosey Doe, I saw Kathy Mattea's dinner/show in April. It was AWESOME. I had a seat at a stage side table, the food was great, the audience was interactive when appropriate and attentive to the show.
I was definitely confused about how things "work" w/the pricing for the dinner/show versus cover only - it was more expensive than I expected, and you pay for dinner whether you eat it or not. It's worth calling ahead to clarify if you're not sure. The overall experience was well worth it, though, even given this surprise.
My second visit was to see Stoney LaRue. It was only "OK". The food was great. I decided to try a seat on the balcony this time, and I don't think I'll do it again. People crowded around our table and were standing all around us on the balcony. The audience talked loudly THROUGHOUT the show, and at least two people even stood and shouted from the balcony to first floor, or from the second floor to the third DURING Stoney's performance to take pictures.
I paid to hear Stoney's awesome acoustic show - not drunk people screaming to one another. The opening act even stood in the sound booth behind our table talking with a group of people, laughing, etc. while Stoney was performing - not cool.
The quality of the performers that Dosey Doe draws is amazing and well worth the ticket price. I'm willing to pay for quality live music in a smaller, more intimate venue. Stoney seemed to draw more of an "ice house" crowd than I was expecting for the money I paid for this venue. So, I'm stilling learning the "ropes" at Dosey Doe - maybe it's the difference between a dinner/show and a cover only show...
I have tickets to another dinner/show later this year, and I'd like to experience another cover only show before I make a final decision about whether they're worth it for me.

MY REVIEW: The more I vist Dosey Doe, the more I want to go back. This is a warm and inviting place with absolutely
delicious food. I had the specialty that night which was the Salmon Croquettes, with a wonderful sauce with beans and zucchini which were so good. Their fried green tomatoes, and chicken fried steak was some of the best. I enjoyed my meal so much that I had to call the owner and share this with him, because one should know what a great place with such good food he has. I look forward to going back because my experience has always been such a fun time.

OWNER'S RESPONSE: This is in response to the review from not satisfied submitted on 4/26/10. First, please extend my apologies to not satisfied for the unpleasant experience she and her friends encountered. We want everyone to walk away from Dosey Doe with warm, happy memories – especially for those celebrating a birthday – and I sincerely regret this did not happy for not satisified. If I had been the one being shushed, I would have felt the same. Second, I was not at Dosey Doe on April 23 and she has me mistaken for someone else (I was home entertaining an out-of-town relative). From my research, not satisfied was seated near the singer’s wife (nicely dressed lady drinking wine with her friend) and she may have been sensitive because her husband was performing on stage. The manager on duty that evening was not aware of problems in the audience, otherwise, this may have been resolved quickly and satisfactorily.

MY REVIEW: Went for the 1st time on Friday for my husbands birthday. We had 3 other couples with us. The food and service were great but the people were horrible. We were the youngest people there (were all in our 30's). The owners wife and her friend were giving us dirty looks and shushing us through out the evening. We were not even loud. There was a band playing and we were eating dinner. I could not believe how rude they were being toward us! None of us will ever go back!

MY REVIEW: After looking at some of the online reviews we were skeptical about having dinner here, but we had tickets for the show, so we came out of convenience. We were very pleasantly surprised! Despite being full for a sold-out show, our service was quick and attentive, the food tasted great, and the prices were very reasonable. We live on the west side of Houston, so we'll probably just come when there's a show we like, but we will definitely plan on eating dinner, as well. (It's also a great music venue!)

MY REVIEW: We are regularly there for the wonderful breakfasts but had never gone to one of the shows. What a night! Gallagher was so funny, the food was amazing, the service was top notch.
I had the crabcake stuffed pork loin and my husband had the ginormous chicken fried steak which he always gets as he says it simply is the best he has ever had. My dinner was so good that I had it finished before I thought to offer my wonderful spouse any (smile). We both had the bread pudding which was very good with the best coffee around; Roast Master's Best.
After dinner they passed out poncho's and already had the entire inside of the barn wrapped in plastic. They needed every inch of it as Gallagher sent the food flying everywhere.
Thank you Dosey Doe for an evening my husband and I will remember for a long time. As owners of a small business I am thrilled by the wonderful success (the show appeared to be sold out) of a unique venture and saddened that some simply don't understand anything other than fast food.

MY REVIEW: I had been to Dosey Doe once before and thought the coffee was really good, so yesterday when I noticed they were open (cars in the lot, people going in), I thought I'd show my fiance how good the coffee was.
Well. We walked in and there was apparently an event about to get going sometime soon, judging from the tables lined up and about 1/5 full. Nevertheless, there wasn't a sign on the outside door saying there was a private function happening, and people were coming in and saying they didn't have reservations and were still being seated. So we didn't think there was going to be a problem with just getting two coffees to go.
But no! The hostess wandered off for a while, came back and seated someone else, wandered off some more, then returned to deliver the sad news: no coffee services available. Why this was, was never made entirely clear. The hostess DID try then, in a spectacular misreading of the situation, to offer us a calendar of their upcoming events. Yes, people to whom you've confusedly and inefficiently just refused service are always terrifically keen on coming back!
We left and hit up S*tarbucks. Sure, it's not the greatest coffee ever, but at least they'll actually sell it to you.

MY REVIEW: After the first visit which was a service disaster, I convinced my wife to try again. We arrived about 10:30 for Sunday breakfast. forty-five minutes after ordering our food came. Cold as could be. Cold grits? Cold biscuits and gravy? Cold dry toast with no butter, jelly, Etc. Ain't that against the law in Texas?
And while we waited I got one cup of coffee, no refills. When the waitress brought our check she "sorry for the bad service, I had to take care of the swim team."
I had no objection to her taking care of others, just get us some coffee, and communicate as you do so. No teamwork, NO MANAGEMENT, no point in going back.
Unfortunate.

MY REVIEW: One of the best small concert venues in Texas.
But, Food and service was a bit rough the last time I went. Will be back again soon and will let you know if they have straightened things out.
My complaints were that they ran out of dessert, everyone paid for dessert, but not everyone got dessert. Refils were slow on tea and water, but no one waited for drinks from the bar.
Food was average in taste and quality, but, high in price.
One of their biggest problems is with their website. It takes forever to get their events calendar to display even with the highest speed of internet connections.
I think everyone that likes music will love this place for the entertainers and the atmosphere. I just wish they would simplify the food on crowded nights, as they just can't handle that much food with a full house.

MY REVIEW: Dosey Doe...Doubly Delightful!!! Cory Morrow said it and we all agree...it is our favorite place to be!!! Wonderful food, great service, the best sounding room for music I have ever been in, and the barn is dressed up with antiques and vintage signs in a way that is classy and warm. If you get a chance try the blackened catfish and, of course, their chicken fried steak. We were all stuffed but somehow made room for the cheesecake and coffee...again, the best! We love you Dosey Doe!!!

MY REVIEW: I took my husband for a surprise birthday visit to Dosey Doe to see Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet. WOW! Not only did the music pin my ears back and leave me in jaw-dropping wonder, the food was quite good.
Needless to say, my husband was thrilled to see his long-time idol, Bela Fleck, and we were both very impressed.
The only thing I did not really like was how we were crowded together at long tables. Getting out to use facilities was quite a challenge. I understand the need to bring in as much business as possible, but they need to give people at least a little elbow room.

MY REVIEW: What a wonderful place to escape. Great food, great music, beautiful environment, warm and service oriented. If you appreciate true quality then you understand it takes time. This is a place to go and relax. Chef Dan introduced himself to us and explained that the menu is small but significant as they concentrate on quality and not quantity. He and his kitchen are truly 5 Star!!!
This was our third visit and we took Dan's advise and explored the building which is a 150 year old barn from Kentucky. It is filled with history. Everywhere you look you find artifacts. The bartender showed us beautiful figurine oil lamps from the 1800's from a house in the Heights and liquor jugs from a time when saloons owned their own jugs as they had to go and get the whiskey from the distillers. The entire building had one story to tell after another.
And then there is the music! We saw Hal Ketchum this time and while I did not know much about him I became a huge fan. Every artist we have seen there has said what a wonderful venue it is. You can tell that they seem to be having maximum fun on stage. The shows always last longer than expected. If you are a lover of great music in the best venue possible then you know what a good value Dosey Doe's dinner/show events are. This is what living is all about!!!
