MY REVIEW: There's no contact form on Amici's website, so somebody tell them that eating at the bar is very uncomfortable - no place to put your feet. Need a foot rail or new bar stools. Food is good, and we like it otherwise. Tried eating at the bar the other night and won't do that again.

MY REVIEW: This place is WAY overrated. My wife & I went had dinner there a little while back. The appetizer (crab claws, I think) was good. Less than 20 seconds after taking it off our table, though, they brought out entrees out. It wasn't attentive service, it was them rushing us out so they could get more turns at the table. The waiter, for example, was all over us to order within a minute of sitting down. If I'm going to drop $125+ for dinner for two, I don't expect the service to feel like D*enny's.
The entrees themselves were very dissapointing. I had pasta with a cream-based sauce that pretty clearly had been sitting (probably under a heat lamp) for a little while, causing a thin skin to form on the top of the sauce. They didn't taste any better than what you'd get at Olive G*arden, frankly. Skip Amici. Other Italian places in the area have better, more moderately priced food that you'll actually feel comfortable enough to enjoy.

MY REVIEW: Dined at Amici's last night in the beautiful Sugarland Town Center. The experience was wonderful overall. We arrived at approximately 7:30/8:00 pm on a Thursday night and were seated right away. Unfortunately it was too chilly to dine outdoors but they have a really nice/sizable patio. The decor was beautiful, contemporary/chic. The wait staff was very knowleable and attentive in an unobtrusive manner (the waiter placed my napkin in my lap for me).
The food was excellent. I cannot recall the name of my dish but it was lasagna-like pasta filled with spinach, fontina cheese and mini-shrimp, rolled and baked in a ceramic dish with a tomato/cheese sauce. It arrived bubbly and gooey. Comfort food. I cannot recall the name of the salad either but it was field greens with julienned pears, dried cherries, walnuts and crumbled blue cheese in a vingarette dressing-awesome! I had a really nice Merlot as well (carmel & blackberry notes I think, smooth).
Since it was my birthday, I was given a complimentary slice of cheescake topped with a strawberry and "happy birthday" written in chocolate on the plate. One of the best cheesecakes I've had. Still noshing on it today. My huband ordered the house salad (it has fresh mozzeralla) and the fettucini alfredo with shrimp (he said it was awesome). There were only 5 or 6 shrimp but they were so large it didn't matter.
Even though the decor suggests a single-beautiful-people atmosphere, it wasn't like that at all. There were familys, young couples obviously on dates, older couples who had obviously stopped in after shopping in the Town Center etc.

MY REVIEW: I am very picky and don't like a lot of the restaurants in Sugar Land but this one is wonderful. I don't know how the previous reviewer has been there so many times and had such bad experiences each time. We went and the four of us couldn't get over how great the service was. We even commented several times to one another how unusual it is to get service like that in SL. The food was absolutely wonderful as well. We started with their special appetizer which was proscuitto wrapped grilled jumbo shrimp which was HUGE and amazing. The salad was good, but had a little too much dressing on it. That was the only negative whatsoever, and that wasn't even that big of deal. The bread was hot and fresh and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the entrees. The staff was very knowledgable about the menu and the wine, which again was surprising because they all seemed so young. Go see for yourself. Also, it was very busy on a Saturday night.

MY REVIEW: We also had really high hopes for Amici, knowing the family affliation of the owners, and looking forward to a great destination for an afternoon outing in Sugar Land. The food is only so so and does not make up for the poor service and a general attitude of "we don't really care", which we experienced every time we went. This is a family area and Amici seems to almost go out of their way to be unwelcoming to families. We can take our well mannered kids to the best restaurants in town so it's not that we need clowns and macaroni and cheese but they offer nothing to keep a family happy and couldnt care less. This general attitude goes from the top to the bottom here, in terms of staff. If everything else they did was great it might be ok, but its not. And, we've yet to see them very busy so they need to do whatever they can to keep the customers they've got.
We have since found an alternate location in the Towne Square to visit for our afternoon outings....we don't care about them either.

MY REVIEW: A very strong point is how reliable the food is. We love the italian bread...about the best in town. The minestrone soup is great. We're very particular about having our pasta al dente...they always do it and with a gracious attitude.
We're regulars even though it's in the neighborhood. That is... we are used to driving for a comparable meal. A good and fair wine list...excellent food and service, makes this one of our favorites.

MY REVIEW: THE SERVICE IS ALWAYS GREAT AS ARE ALL OF THE ENTREES WE HAVE TRIED. WE LOVE ORDER THE TROUT,WHICH IS BIG ENOUGH TO SPLIT WITH A FRIEND. THE SHRIMP IS TO DIE FOR AND THAT YUMMY BREAD THEY BRING TO HE TABLE. WE CHOSE TO DRESS UP SOME AS THE DECOR IS BEAUTIFUL AND IT IS AN UPSCALE PLACE. CHILDREN ARE OK, (EARLY) THEY DO HAVE A KIDS MENU, BUT WE USUALLY DO NOT BRING THEM IF WE CAN. IT IS A GREAT NIGHT OUT WITH FRIENDS, CLIENTS OR YOUR SPECIAL SOMEONE.
WE THINK AMICI IS A DEFINITE PLACE TO DINE.

MY REVIEW: i have to agree with food lover...kind of a dead place. in fact, we have known the owner and the manager for years and STILL didn't get great service. restaurant was empty. the food was so so at lunch. how can you mess up a salad? go to Amici if you want to find out. certainly not nearly as good as we expected. too bad-as we were looking forward to finding a good restaurant in the area. (an excuse to go to Sugarland). we certainly didn't find it at Amici.

MY REVIEW: I have just read all of the fantastic reviews and I must say I am amazed!
My first trip to this restaurant will be the last. The restaurant was practically empty but the service was extremely slow and the waiters seemed to be overworked. The atmosphere was cold and unwelcoming and only when we were leaving did anyone seem to care that we were there, even though we had let them know ahead of time we would be there to look for a location for a large group get together. The food was good but not worth the trouble.

MY REVIEW: Great food and great service. We usually plan on eating out at a place like amici but last weekend my mom and i were running some errands and decided we wanted to stop by for lunch. we hesitated beause we really were not well dressed, just jeans and a t-shirt. we went ahead and the service was spectacular, which will make me appreciate the great service when i am all fixed up even more.
we went for dinner with another couple a few weeks ago and all the entrees and appetizers were great. the only exception was that my husband ordered a steak entree med rare and it was brought to us mw. really not a big deal but we did ask the waiter if he could jsut take it back and take it off our ticket as there was plenty of food among us. waiter was very apologetic, manager came by shortly thereafter with the steak prepared med rare and insisted that we try it because he wanted us to know how good it is. it was really fantastic, deliious. and he did not charge us for it. really great hospitality, not just the standard "do you love it?" i hate it when servers do that.

MY REVIEW: I have never had a meal that compelled me to write a review before. Our experience at Amici last night was absolutely perfect. We went for a date on a Thursday night. The service was attentive but not overly solicitous and totally unrushed (very relaxing in a "fast food nation"). We had the option of dining outside even though there was a light sprinkle of rain. Normally we would choose the rain but it looked like a storm was on its way so we ate inside. The decor inside was colorful and beautiful and fantastic. Some guests were dressed for a night out and some came in shorts and Hawaiian shorts (somewhere in between seemed appropriate).
We ordered the specials - two entrees and the appetizer. The appetizer was squash flowers, which we had never eaten before, and we loved not only the taste but the idea of it being so unusual and eating FLOWERS! My entree was a grilled snapper covered with all sorts of sea goodies like tiny whole squid, shrimp and all sorts of other things I couldn't identify because I didn't have my glasses on, all on a bed of spinach. The portion was more generous than I expected and everything was tender and tasty. To watch my fat intake I asked for the sauce on the side and didn't even need it. My companion ordered a rigatoni special and it was similarly fantastic. To top it off, they have THE BEST decaf cappucino I've ever had. Since we ordered specials, we had no idea how much we were spending, and it wasn't cheap ($66 before tip), but it was less than we expected and well worth it. It is also a fun location, adjacent to the cultural hub of Sugar Land (the open area at Town Square).

MY REVIEW: We went last Saturday night for "date night" and were more than impressed by the whole experience. We ordered a chicken dish and a pasta dish, both were amazing. Not only did it look pretty, but the taste was incredible! The wait staff was friendly and attentive. It was a bit on the pricy side, but well worth every penny. You get what you pay for.. We will definitely return, we're actually looking at going for valentine's day!! Positively an A+ experience!

MY REVIEW: On a scale of 1-10 i'd give them the perfect 1-0. I took the whole family out to dinner recently, 12 of us total. We all came at different times but the receptionist was kind enough to make sure the earlier guests were taken care of in the bar area.
Our table was nicely set-up, very clean and spaces between tables was rather generous throughout the area - you never feel cramped or have to look behind you when pulling out of your chair.
The ambiance in the place is that of a hip-cool-yet-classic place, though definitely catered towards the younger crowd in terms of set-up. It's a little on the noisy side, which is a good thing for those who appreciates fine dining *and* have an active toddler tagging along. (A lot of parents would see this as a very good thing).
The food was excellent, upon recommendations from other B4-U-Eaters, we tried the stuffed calamari among other things. Not your typical food fare, but definitely worth it. The stuffed eggplant is another taste to behold. Salad-wise, there wasn't much there that i haven't tasted elsewhere, but presentation was nice and pleasing. We also tried the various entree's, the best was the pork loin. It's a "huge tender beast". Whatever seasoning they had, went right through its core. Definitely a must-try.
There was a slight mishap with one of our orders, apparently they just ran out ingredients for one dish. The manager and (if i'm not mistaken, the owner himself) was there to make sure everything was "done right". Not only did they give my hungry guest an entree of her choice--gratis--but they indulged the entire gang with free coffee and desserts afterwards.
That's service you just don't see everywhere.
Kudos to the management and crew of Amici. Regardless of the slight mishaps, they managed to turn it around and handled it like a true restaruanteur would.

MY REVIEW: Fabulous food - good value! We live in Houston and make the hike to Sugarland (it actually doesn't take too long from Houston!!) to take friends to this great new find. The food is what you would expect from somewhere like T*ony's and the prices are about what we pay at C*arrabas. The service is great and the waiters well trained (ours suggested a wonderful mid level priced wine we all loved!) and the food is fantastic. Each time we go, everyone we go with loves their food selection and the desserts!! Try the chocolate cake with coconut in the icing. Yum!!

MY REVIEW: Welcome to Sugar Land. Finally, an upscale, non-chain restaurant that has some good food and little livelihood. I didn't find the prices excessly pricey. Sure, its more than the neighboring chains, but this is an adult restaurant and I personally am thankful for a restaurant that caters to grownups. Thanks Vallone family.

MY REVIEW: Overall - Strong performance. Give it 3+ stars. The prices were moderate, the selection was excellent and the specials did not disappoint.
The decor is not what I would typically expect from a Valone venture. A bit sparse - all of the hard surfaces (wood, not a table cloth in sight) contributed to the noise factor. The restaurant might be a bit too noisy.
Again - overall a strong performance and a nice addition to Sugar Land.

MY REVIEW: The service is impeccable. The food is likewise great. My husband said it was the best Italian food he has ever had and he is a tough critic. He had a pasta dish, while I had sea bass. Both were incredibly tasty, as well as the antipasta. The tomato w/mozarella was a little lacking in taste. The tomatoes were not great. The wine we had was Avalon Cabernet @ $12 per glass but the glass was a nice size. Try the chocolate tower for dessert. It is a small tower, just the right size and divine. We will definitely go back again and again!!!

MY REVIEW: My first trip to Amici absolutely outstanding. The decor of this restaurant is quite incredible...it has a very New York feel.
The food and service were impeccable. We were seated promptly and the waitstaff was very attentive but not intrusive. We ordered three appetizers. The Frico, which was crispy cheese filled with layers of potatoes was wonderful. The Oysters were equally outstanding...the fennel added a nice flavor. We also had the Burrata Cheese with the Arugula Salad. The presentation was great and the flavors all complimented each other.
The entree's were fantastic. I would highly recommend the Snapper with clams, mussels and shrimp. The sauce on this dish was to die for. My wife had the Lamb Shank and she stated it was quite simply the best she had ever had.
We shouldn't have because we already very full, but we ordered dessert. The Chocolate Tower was very good. And I have not had a Canoli that good in since my last trip to New York.
I would definitly recommend this restaurant. You no longer have to leave Sugar Land to enjoy a 5 star restaurant.

MY REVIEW: We've visited this place the first time and I must say it is a very pleasant experience. This place has an impeccable service and more. Here's why! The visit was a birthday gift from a relative in NYC who called them up for a gift certificate and made a reservation under my name. As soon as we walked in and told them my name (for reservation), they were on top of things and aware of the arrangements prior (gift certificate, etc). It saves you from an embarrassing act of pulling out the (faxed) printed gift certificate at the end of the evening, especially in an upscale restaurant like this. We were seated promptly, chairs pulled, table napkins laid unfolded and laid on your lap that makes you feel like an honored guest. On top of that, the waiter (Gaspar) is very attentive, always on top of things and definitely not obtrusive. Nothing bugs me more than when wait staff comes over and asks you question at the time when you're mouth is full (it never fails). From time to time, the managers including Jeff Vallone and Bruce McMillan themselves would come by your table and ensure if you are having a pleasant dining experience.
The food was equally excellent as the service. First off, the menu is not typical of what you would see in most Italian restaurants in town. For instance, the Calamari Imbottiti was stuffed with pesto-like spinach with spicy bread crumbs and shaved garlic, flash grilled (not fried). It was very tasty, very fresh – I have never had a calamari served like that. It probably might not be for everyone’s palette if you were used to the breaded and deep fried calamari served in most restaurants. For the salad, we shared Tomato Ashley, finely chopped arugula and radicchio drizzled with olive oil vinaigrette, served with tomato and steamed asparagus. The texture was very interesting as it almost looked like the Lebanese tabouli with only four ingredients. I didn’t like it as much as I thought it was missing some tastes perhaps a finely chopped olives and the saltiness hint of anchovies. In fairness, it was a very light salad. For the main course, I ordered the Medallion of Beef Enzo that was just simply juicy, well seasoned and simply very tasty. The beef was encrusted with garlic and pepper and served with tasty grilled fingerling potatoes and artichoke that seemed like it was braised with the Barolo wine reduction sauce, that was also drizzled all over the meat as well. I must say, I would have preferred more sauce though although I am quite sure the meat purist would disagree. My wife ordered a pasta dish with gulf shrimp served with tart lemony, buttery cream white sauce and grilled zucchini. She especially how it was plated and how the zucchini was cut -julliene instead of french. The desserts were just as good although I didn’t care much for the Sicilian Frozen Lemon Soufflé. I like the more traditional soufflé, not frozen. They did however let me get another dessert, Tiramisu which was very good. Not too sweet and very moist.
All in all, it’s a very pleasant dining experience with great food and excellent service. The food portions were not too big and not too small and the service was fast and quick. I’ll give it 4 out of 5 stars.

MY REVIEW: This is a comment on the last review to so called restaurant connoisseur.
Shrimp dish complimented by rice? What are you Asian? You're not in the Chinese/Asian restaurant to even think they would serve a shrimp and compliment it with rice. Rissotto maybe! And you call yourself a restaurant connoisseur

MY REVIEW: It was a nice day outside so my girlfriend and I decided to stay in the Sugar Land area and dine outside. My initial impression of Amici was that it was fine dining and very upscale. It's a great place to take a date because of the location and great view.
I sat down for about 10 minutes and the waiter didn't ask us if we were ready to order an appetizer or what we wanted to drink. I noticed that he had problems with another table also, because a manager had to come out and see if he could help them. The waiter didn't speak too much English and the service was super slow. My girlfriend ordered a salad (I forget which one it is), but it was nothing out of the ordinary. I told her that we could of made that salad at home and better than them. She told me it had a overbearing vinegar taste that made it hard to eat. I had a shrimp dish that reminded me of a pounded out shrimp all fused together (shrimp pancake). When I saw it on the menu, I thought that the shrimp dish would come with either rice or something to compliment it, but unfortunately it was only the shrimp that came out. It was garnished with lemon and parsley.
The food at Amici was expensive and less than desirable. I paid 19.00 for the shrimp dish and another 8.00 for the salad. I don't think I will ever be back there again to eat since the service was terrible and the food was subpar.

MY REVIEW: We tried this new restaurant for lunch this week and were pleasantly surprised.
The lunch special, "Sugar Land Dash", consisted of soup or salad, an entree with side items, and dessert-all for only $12. The food was served by a professional wait staff (attentive, yet not overly so). We were extremely impressed by the food quality-usually when we try a new restaurant there are some start up problems, but not at this place. I tried the chicken dish that was one of the specials that day, with the salad. The Italian garden salad was cold, very fresh, with just the right amount of dressing. The chicken entree was a delicious chicken breast stuffed with ham and cheese, accompanied by sauteed fresh spinach and garlic, and a pasta. The pasta was an interesting surprise-what looked like a small potato pancake, was actually filled with a tasty pasta! We will surely be back to this wonderful new Sugar Land restaurant.
