MY REVIEW: Their sushi is fresh. Good. Happy Hour is worth it. The Chef Special Rolls are amazing. The price is decent and the dessert "Mocci" was awesome. the atmosphere was elegant and contemporary and the restroom are clean. the sinks are another wonder too. all in all, 10 out of 10. oh and the Server we had was Sarah, and she was the best one ever.

MY REVIEW: The food: It was good, but for the price I was expecting something with a lot more 'Ooomph!'. Try the Chef's special rolls, they're really good. The drinks: The Lychee martini they're supposedly known for is was waaaay over-priced, but it was still good...just not $8-9 dollars good. The Waitress: Very attentive, made conversation. I was happy with her.

Summary: I won't go back anytime soon, Azuma is much better for the price! The environment is lovely enough to go once though. OH, the fatty salmon is just a chunkier piece of salmon, so avoid it, it's not that big a deal.

MY REVIEW: Came in for lunch and this place was dead... waited for a hostess or someone to bring us to our table. We didn;t even know if the place was open at all.

Food was ok. I can get the same food for cheaper right down the block somewhere. Staff was great at the beginning but, then after awhile we seemed to have been bugging her. I saw my sushi sit at the sushi bar for about ten mins before it was brought out and the place was slow.

MY REVIEW: Service was great, the waitress was sweet, but I didn't go there to make a friend. The sushi was probably the WORST I've EVER had, the rice was falling apart and the rolls were falling apart and were overpriced for the quality served to us. I've been to U*ptown Sushi and LOVED it, but other than the decor nothing came even close to its sister restaurant. I always love trying new sushi places, but this place SUCKS!

MY REVIEW: Strong points: Decor is relaxing and beautiful. Nigiri is good. A very attentive staff whe taking orders and bringing them out.

Week points: Sushi rice was falling apart. Sushi rice should never fall apart. Wait time to be served food is ridiculously long. Though the staff was great, it still took a while for water refills.

MY REVIEW: Service is great and the food is way above the expected for most Sushi Bar's here in Houston. They have rolls that no other place in town make and the top chef Shoie can and will make any kind of special roll that you can think of. When the Girlfriend comes in town from San Antonio he makes her a special roll topped with Sautéed scallops it is to die for. I would recommend it to anyone who is trying Sushi for the first time you. To the well as the seasoned veteran.

MY REVIEW: The decor is very similar to Up*town (same owners), stunning and romantic. Our waiter was friendly and honest. She checked on us enough to make sure we were doing ok, but not too much that we were overwhelmed. The food was fresh and sooo delicious. Her off-menu recommendation, Unagi I think, was the best. Sushi might take awhile to make to make so try one of their appetizers. You can obviously tell that they train their wait staff very well.

MY REVIEW: This place was absolutely amazing! My friends and I were taken very good care of, excellent service and attention to detail! We ordered about 5 different rolls, one which was not on the menu that our server recommended, and some individual pieces. It was pricey, but you definately get what you pay for in sushi, so I am always prepared for a big bill. The presentation was outstanding, very well thought out. The food was to die for! The 7 1/2 rolls were probably the best rolls I've ever eaten! I will be back time and time again!

MY REVIEW: Before Blue Fin, I was a N*ara regular for 5+ years. Blue Fin is beautiful, the sushi is still the best in Houston and the service is relaxed, meaning they do not rush you during your meal, but rather encourage you to take your time and enjoy the palatable experience.

If you are looking for a talented sushi chef, look no further. Shoi is the most imaginative, ingeneous, and artistic chef in the business. You will not experience sushi at any other restaurant in Houston, even one of Blue Fin's sister restaurants, like you will at Blue Fin because there are rolls and other savory dishes that are unique only to Blue Fin and are not necessarily listed on the menu.

The best seating is at the sushi bar. Shoi is fun, friendly, and outrageous. He has developed quite a following over the years. People go as much to bask in his presence as they do for the wonderful food he creates. That said, it is always a good idea to reserve your seat ahead of time.

As far as prices, well, the number one thing that brought me back to N*ara a second time was the fact that their fish is the most fresh fish I have found at a sushi bar in Houston and up until that point, I had been to them all. So, it may not be as cheap as M*iyako, but you are paying for what you get and in my opinion it is well worth it!

MY REVIEW: If you don't like this place, you don't have any business being in an upscale sushi house. Order the Mirugai sashimi, the yellowtail belly-cut sushi, the tuna tartar or the thin-sliced Tai sashimi and tell me this isn't some of the best sushi you have ever had. Yes, the service can be less than attentive at times, but each of the dishes that end up on in front of you is a masterpiece. If there's a better sushi chef than Shoi in the US, please tell me where he or she works so I can hop a plane there next week. Clearly the best sushi restaurant in Houston, as was N*ara, which is now sadly dead. Long live N*ara! Long live Bluefin!

BTW, if you were a Nara regular, check out Nara night, which is the 2nd Thursday of each month.

MY REVIEW: Strong points: The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated in blues, creams, and blacks. At the front of the restaurant is the bar/lounge, with couches and armchairs for waiting. The bar has hooks underneath it for purses, which I really liked. Drinks are expensive but well worth it. The bartenders are friendly and know how to make great drinks.

The food is incredible and service is very friendly and fast. I don't think it's much more expensive than any other higher-end sushi restaurant. They have a wide variety and there is something for everyone. They also have rolls for people who are wary of eating uncooked meat or fish. I can't remember the name, but they have an appetizer which is cooked beef with sweet potatoes or avocados. I also recommend the Chris Roll. It's grilled chicken with sweet potatoes wrapped in rice with sesame seeds and peppercorn. The sashimi was perfect and tasted fresh- not fishy.

MY REVIEW: Loved it. Decor was calming and elegant. The restaurant is done in a way to keep the noise down so a person can talk without yelling. A beautiful bar is separated from the dining area, a great idea. The food was outstanding, we let them decide what we should have and we were not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My girlfriend had visited U*ptown and says that Blue Fin is as good as U*ptown. Thanks for coming to West Houston.

MY REVIEW: Just picked up an order--salmon and tuna sashimi. Both were great, both were reasonably priced. But, most importantly.....the wasabi was perfect!!!

The wasabi I've had at other sushi places recently lacked intensity and flavor---Blue Fin's was just right and very hot (like I like it).

MY REVIEW: Strong points: Beautiful decor, great sushi, friendly service.

Weak points: Prep time takes a little longer, so I suggest you order the seaweed salad or edamame while you wait. It's also a bit pricey, like U*ptown.

This was my first time at Blue Fin and I was very impressed. The food here is delicious-- the spicy tuna rolls at Bluefin are far superior to that of any other restaurant. The unagi is also very good, and the sashimi is fresh and delicious. It's not the best sushi in Houston, but it is definitely in the top 5.

The service is also WONDERFUL at this restaurant. We had a party of about 8 people and our server was prompt and friendly. A big plus-- the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. It is very similar to U*ptown Sushi (same owners, I believe). The manager even came by to greet us and offered complimentary drinks. Very nice place, I would recommend it to all of my friends, and will definitely be back.

MY REVIEW: Strong points -- this is a beautiful, elegant restaurant. If you'll pay anything for ambiance, go there, but.....

You WILL pay for it. Overpriced, average food, and very slow service sums up our experience. (Sashimi doesn't require a lot of preparation time, but the Blue Fin managed to turn our order into a 45 minute ordeal, during which we watched a family who came in 10 mins later than us get their entire meal and leave). When we questioned this, one of the waiters made some obtuse reference to how many people were "ahead of us" in the dining room (there were about half a dozen, the restaurant being mostly empty.) From this information, I can only surmise that a sashimi order on a busy night would take an hour to get.

The yellowfin tuna (I ordered blue fin tuna, but ironically, they were out) was good but small in portion, my friend ordered the caterpillar, which was fishy-tasting and soggy. The martinis were generous in size, but expensive ($10ish).

There are better options, in my opinion.

MY REVIEW: Wow! We had planned to eat at "A*KA", on Elderidge, but they were getting ready for a private party and had half their dining area blocked. So we looked elsewhere, landing at Blue Fin.

Once again, WOW!

The decor was great! Elegant without looking pretentious. You could either walk in with blue jeans or evening attire. Most of the tables are set so that you are facing the sushi bar, so you don't have to look at someone dressed one way and wonder if you should be dressed the same.

The service was excellent. Our waiter was knowledgeable and obviously has been trained in the proper serving technique.

Among other things, we had the snow crab roll, escolar, salmon, snow crab, endame, beef fajita and others and all three of us were highly impressed.

The presention was something that you would normally see on a cruise ship, where they make interting things with the food. A "boat" made of cuke, berries and lord knows what else, carried our salmon and wasabi to us. It was great!

Three of us ate for about $100 and we were all happy to pay the price.

I HIGHLY recommend this little gem!

MY REVIEW: Everyone was just raging about this restaurant before it opened..so I had to go try it. It wasn't up to the hype that I was expecting. We were there on a Friday, and not much was going on at all. The decor is nice, I give them that prop. But the food was not up to my expectation. I ordered their Escolar sushi, and that was not such a good choice. It was so soggy! And their rolls are so over-priced considering the size they came out to be. And DO NOT..I reapeat..DO NOT order their fried cheesecake. It was not tasty at all. I probably won't be going back.

MY REVIEW: Uptown and Bluefin are the best in Houston! I love the specialty rolls, especially the 7 1/2 and Lickity Split. Thanks to Chef Don for bringing the goods to SW Houston!

MY REVIEW: My wife and I enjoy sushi all over the city regularly and find Bluefin to be one the hidden gems we had always wanted. the sushi is fresh, the rolls are creative, and the staff is very friendly. We chatted with the sushi chef who was very friendly and made our experience more enjoyable. I was impressed with the decor and the furniture. On the way out I noticed a beautiful private dining room, which would be perfect for my wife's birthday party. Who knew a sushi restaurant could be so elegant?

Try the Lychee martini. It has a unique flavor the is hard to describe. I also enjoyed the DON #2 and lickety split rolls, because they have a lot of spice and flavor. Try the sea bass sashimi. Not only is it fresh and a hefty portion, but it comes in the shape of a rose. I appreciate a restaurant that takes as much pride in it's details as it does in the freshness of it's fish.

MY REVIEW: If you've been to Up*town Sushi you've been to Bluefin... basically. They share the same menu and decor. The only difference is at Bluefin it's blue and cream and at Up*town Sushi it's more something else and cream. But they both look very similar. The "lounge" at Bluefin is much bigger though.

Bluefin was good overall. The service was pretty slow (and not too friendly) but the food was pretty good (again, the same menu as Up*town Sushi). The customers are pretty much the same types as at Up*town except probably younger.... like college age. The drinks come with a blue neon stick in them (to go with the whole blue theme).

Rolls to try: 7 1/2 roll, Lobster and Shrimp roll, Scuba Diver. Skip the Fajita roll, my husband and I found it just kind of there, not really flavorful (but this is a sushi place so....). Raspber-tini is pretty good too.

I personally like Up*town better. Even though the restaurants are very similar, I just like Up*town a bit better. Both the atmosphere and the service is just better to me.

MY REVIEW: I've been waiting for this restaurant to open for a long time ever since hearing about it last year. Our initial visit to Bluefin was very pleasant and well worth the wait. The sushi is very fresh, staff is very friendly and accomodating and the decor is spectacular. It's about time the people on the Westside of Houston finally have a nice restarurant to dine at without having to drive all the way inside the loop.
