MY REVIEW: Killen's and Chef Ronnie deliver again. My father-in-law looked forward to spending his 70th birthday at Killen's and every bite was fabulous. The Kobe Flight was incredible, each piece better than the next! The fried shrimp and macaroni and cheese were to die for. Even the kid's chicken strips are better than another other restaurant's. We took the leftovers home with us! The creamed corn is out of this world with a little kick of heat that makes you want to scrape the bottom of the dish clean. I've never tasted anything quite like that. Dee-Dee's recommendation of a sweet white wine was spot-on ("like wedding cake in a bottle" she said, and it was!) and we drank every drop.

The service is impeccable, with well-informed wait staff with all the nice perks of a 5-star restaurant (i.e., making sure THEY refill your wine glass, "crumbing" the linen table cloth between courses, making sure your steak is cooked to your liking when it's placed before you). You just cannot beat the service, fantastic food and prices of Killen's for a wonderful night out. Keep up the great work! See you soon!

MY REVIEW: Its taken me a year or so to get back down to Killens, but so worth the wait. Previously I had the steak and this time decided to have the fried shrimp, and it was just as awesome as I would have expected. Ronnie never disappoints in the kitchen....and trust me I've known the chef for a long time and have had everything he makes from his infamous Chicken Enchiladas to ribs , chicken and brisket. The whole dinner experience was fantastic, such a treat for a night out. Everything about this place shows exactly what a fine dining experience is all about. The owner and his wife should be commended on the continuing work they have put into their place to make it the great place it is. The fried asparagus , crab cakes and the tuna appetizers started off our dinner and all 3 were just delicious, not a drop left on the plate....then fried shrimp , the kobe filet , strip and Kobe filet were the entrees of choice. The fried shrimp were so lighltly breaded it added the perfect compiment to the succulent jumbo shrimp. The Kobe flight was absolutely spectacular and well worth the money spent....also the creamed corn , skillet potatoes and Mac and Cheese were all they are advertised as....this sure aint no Delmonte creamed corn...almost sinful it tastes so good....Overall I can't say enough about the dinner to really express just how good it was... keep up the good work , you guys ROCK!!

MY REVIEW: The food can't be beat! We have eaten in some of the finest restaurants across the United States. Killen's is equal or better than the best. The one thing we were disappointed in is the fact that they serve Pepsi and not Coke products. Many times when deciding where to dine we will bypass a restaurant that we know serves Pepsi instead of Coke. Pepsi seems to be the choice of new restaurants that can't afford Coke products. We think that the quality of Killen's deserves the best! We appreciate the attempt to elevate the level of dress, however as much as it was stressed there seemed to be no enforcement of the code. We saw several people allowed inside that were wearing shorts, jeans with holes in them, and shirt tails untucked. Personally, we think Killen's is trying a little too hard to be chic and upscale with their prices and dress code and yet their building and location are more down home and casual.

MY REVIEW: Killen's is easily my favorite restaurant in the Houston area. As mentioned before, the "ambiance" isn't what you would normally expect with this type of food, but the prices aren't what you normally pay for food this good either. My wife dreams about the wedge salad with Chef Killen's signature Roquefort dressing, and the crab cakes are unbelievable. Also, there are very few places in Texas where you will be able to order Kobe beef without reserving it in advance, and I have never seen a place where I could get it for this price. I can't even goto Central Market and buy it to cook at home for these prices.

If you haven't eaten here, you might be missing the best food in Houston! The ambiance is the only thing I've really heard complaints about, but this is Houston. You should head to New York or LA if you need a fancy restaurant - I just want a great meal and Chef Killen always delivers.

MY REVIEW: Well, after reading all the rave reviews several of us decided to give Killen's a try. Sure enough, the steaks were excellent. BUT.. the side dishes we shared: mashed potatoes, asparagus, onion rings, and a few others were mediocre. Service was good, but I have to admit that I wasn't all that terribly impressed with the place. It was loud and the parking lot was a nightmare! All in all this very pricey restaurant is not on our list of places to re-visit.

MY REVIEW: Nothing but greatness. For Christmas my wife and I told our parents we would be treating them to dinner at Killen's when the weather warmed up a bit. Made reservations in February for April the 5th.

Everything was outstanding, as usual. Our server, Joe, was attentive, knowledgable and made several suggestions that proved to be dead on.

My dad said his filet was the best steak he had ever eaten. The crab cakes were a huge hit and the newly adde cream corn was a huge hit, when Ron came by the table my mom asked how it was prepared ... his explanation of the 3 hour prrocess blew us all away.

We finished the evening by passing an order of the creme brulee bread pudding around the table and then everyone left with a smile on their face.

Can't wait to go back again.

MY REVIEW: This place continues to top itself. For our anniversary dinner, we started with shrimp cocktail, then Caesar salad. Both were excellent. For an entree, I tried the off-menu lamb special, and it was fantastic. Tasted like a filet mignon. And they served it with 3 LARGE bacon-wrapped scallops, which were also awesome. My wife had the 10-oz. filet which came medium-rare as she likes it. The only disappointment was the side of mac-and-cheese (note to chef Killen: add some gruyere to the mix, like J. Al*xanders does, and it would be perfect).

The dessert of carrot cake arrived hot with melted icing completely covering the cake, and I don't know how, but we managed to finish it. Their wine list is pretty good, and reasonably-priced compared to those other outrageous steakhouses in Houston. Service was impeccable - they are constantly monitoring your table for every little need you may have (they even changed out my knife when I spilled a drop of wine on it!). Now if only they could improve their haphazard parking lot!

MY REVIEW: We spend a lot of time in Houston as our daughter lives in Pearland. We saw the review and decided to give it a try. The dinners were outstanding. I had the dry aged rib eye and it was the best I ever had. We travel all over the world and this place is an incredible surprise. We will be back as often as we can.!

MY REVIEW: As others have pointed out, the steaks are first rate. The filet and ribeyes are flavorful and tender. The crab cakes are delicious as are the fried asparagus. The sides have been hit and miss. The haricot vert had too much salt and garlic (and I love garlic, but this overbearing). The creamed spinach was good as were the potatoes au gratin and mashed potatoes. Try the creme brulee bread pudding...it was superb. As for the setting, it is loud and it can be cold. My two visits were in the summer and just recently in Dec...both times the temp was on the "cool" which can be exacerbated if you are sitting next to a vent. Service has improved since the first visit, but it isn't on par with other similar steak houses.

MY REVIEW: Outstanding! would be an understatement of both the food and the service. My mother and I were visiting from Green Bay, WI. My sister took us to your restaurant on Wednesday, Nov 7th. Wow. Our server, Nicole, was awesome. Helpful, friendly and catering to our every whim and desire. She also did a nice job of convincing us to try your fabulous carrot cake even though we all thought we could eat another bite. The manager took the time to come and visit with us also.

My suggestion: open a branch in Green Bay - we'd be there all the time. :-)))

See you next year.

MY REVIEW: I visited Killen's again and they were offering a special smoked prime rib. Oh my God it was good. Perfectly done, perfect smoke flavor, not too heavy. The chef has made this before (several months ago) and it was good then, but pratice makes perfect. Everything else was excellent as well. Houston, come on down it's better in Pearland.

MY REVIEW: Had dinner there this evening and had a wonderful time, as usual. Scott was attentive and made sure the dining experience was delightful.

Tonight, my husband started with French Onion Soup and I atarted with the Tomatoe Salad. Both were great. My husband chose the Fried Shrimp and I had the prime rib special, which was awesome!! We ended with bread pudding and creme brule respectively for dessert.

While I agree that it can be a little noisy, I'm not sure where it's not. I love this place and will continue to go back there. Hopeully, someday I will make the grade of "everyone knows my name"

MY REVIEW: I can't rave enough about this restaurant! My family and I have dined here on numerous occasions to celebrate special events and have always been more than pleased with the food, service and atmosphere provided at Killen's!

We live in Pearland and have very little to chose from as far as steak houses go (or other eateries for that matter) so we were so pleased when we discovered how remarkable Killen's was. Not only are the steaks superior, but their pasta and fish dishes are stupendous! A must after-dinner order is their crème brulee bread pudding (restaurant specialty) AND/or their carrot cake! To-die for!

We recommend Killen’s for a nice evening out for two or a special occasion with a large group!

MY REVIEW: Took my in-laws to Killen's for the first time for their anniversary. What a memorable evening! My husband said his Kobe ribeye was the best piece of beef he's ever eaten, the Kobe strip was a close runner up. This is on the menu full-time now. The filets were perfectly done, nearly fork-tender and the mac-n-cheese is just like Grandma's...only better! Talk about comfort food. The meal left my father-in-law speechless, said it's the best meal he's had in Houston EVER. The waitstaff are professional and knowledgeable (thanks Dee-Dee and Ryan). The creme brule was so good my 3-year old was running her finger around the empty dish, getting the last of it out! This is the best meal we've had out, well, since the last time we ate at Killen's! Full bar with an extensive wine list. Definitely 5-star quality. Can't wait to come back. Keep up the great work, Ronnie and staff!

MY REVIEW: Last night was our 12th Anniversary and we have been celebrating each year at 5 star restaurants in busy, congested, hectic Houston. We live in Alvin and I have passed by Killens many of years. I thought it was just a BBQ place because I have seen their booth at the Rodeo Cook-offs for many years. Last week we were looking in the Chronicle at restaurant scorings and was shocked to see Killens scored better than R*uth Chris and C*apital Grill. So, we tried it last night and from the time we stepped in door, to a beautiful setting of white table clothed tables and fine stemware, we felt special. And so close to home (best thing). Then I heard that the owner was a runner up to be Pres. Bush Jr. exe. chef at the white house. I see why. I give this place 5 stars in my book. I have been to 5 star restaurants around the world, and this is one I will remember. The service was excellent too.

MY REVIEW: For all you steak lovers out there...this is the place to eat! I've eaten at many steakhouses in Houston, and Killen's really is the best that I've had. In my opinion, this place 'sets the bar' on how a steak should be cooked. The sides are great and the service is even better (Thx Chad!). It might have a gravel parking lot (get over it, you're in Brazoria County) and it may get loud at times, but the food is what you will remember this place for. I'm just fortunate I live only 3 miles down the road!!

MY REVIEW: After hearing great things about this place my wife and I went with another couple. We enjoyed our evening there but the place does have some issues. Several of us had steaks which were good but not curl my toes good. My wifes tuna was very good and properly done. Our salads were good (though I loved my roquefort dressing while my wife didn't care for her poppyseed dressing). The desserts were extremely yummy. However, the place is very noisy as people have commented here. Also every thing is a la carte - everything. You don't even get a garnish on your (steak) plate. Also their parking lot, if you want to call it that, leaves a lot to be desired. It is a chaotic dirt lot that with the July rains was a swamp - exacerbated by the fact that I got blocked in.

MY REVIEW: We had a wonderful dinner and great service from Ryan who was mentioned in another review from 1/07 below. His attention to our needs was identical to that in the prior review.

Strong points: Outstanding food. Our steaks were perfectly done and very lean. French onion soup, wedge salad, bread, au gratin potatos, asparagus, and key lime pie were delicious.

Weak points: Noise was very intrusive. This is not the place for a romantic dinner for two. We were also blasted by the air conditioning sitting in the middle of the back room so I suggest packing a sweater for your comfort. The wine list is extensive but it did not list any wines by the glass which are available although the selection is limited.

Despite the noise and AC problem, we would go back to enjoy another selection from the menu. Everything we saw being served to other patrons really looked yummy.

MY REVIEW: If you are from Pearland, you must try this place...it is shocking that we have this restaurant here, and that it is so unknown, while so gourmet. We had an awesome experience.

The interior of the building is surprisingly nice, compared to the outside. It is rather loud, but the entire experience, overall, was great!

Crab cake was one of the best I've ever had, and we have tried so many at really nice restaurants. The ahi tuna is wonderful, and so is the petite filet; both were cooked to perfection. Asparagus side was cooked perfectly as well.

Service was excellent! The chef's constant appearance at the restaurant shows their dedication to success. I was impressed.

Only weak point was that the dessert menu was cut short to only two options; they were out of everything (Sat. night popularity I suppose).

We'd recommend it, and will be back.

MY REVIEW: Eight of us went and the unanimous consensus was "Oh my god!". We started with crab cakes. They were topped with a cream sauce and two jumbo shrimp. They were fantastic. Best I ever had. Most of us had the filet mignon. I ate the entire steak with my fork. Tender, juicy and delicious. The potatoes au gratin were awesome and so was the bread pudding. The ceasar salad was good but overpriced. They have a full bar and adequate wined selection.

With tip, each couple spent about $140 (that included drinks). Well worth it.

MY REVIEW: Well let me start by saying, I put visited 2-3 times. Actually, tonight was my first visit, but I will be in town a couple of more days and may eat there every night until I leave town! I travel all over the US and Canada for my job and can pretty much eat wherever I desire. I can tell you this, the food was as good as any place in the country.

I see alot of people dont care for the atmosphere. I loved it. When I got into town, I looked on the internet for Pearland, TX. resturants. Kellens was the first thing to pop up and when I saw that big ol boy sittin at the table, I knew this place was for me. Fabulous food, great service at more than reasonable prices. Sorry guys, I used to hate to have to come to Houston. Now I cant wait to come back to this little gem in Pearland. Best of luck to owner and staff, there arnt many like you in the country!!!!!!!

MY REVIEW: I've had almost everything on the menu. The steaks get a lot of attention but the seafood specials are a hidden gem. These showcase the chef's culinary training and are a bargain. They would be much more expensive anywhere else. This is our favorite restaurnat, hands down the best Pearland has to offer and worth the drive for inner loopers.

MY REVIEW: There is a review with my screen name below but it was not from me, not sure what happened with the database but my post was lost and another replaced it.

Killen's is an excellent steakhouse. The steaks are among the best in Houston with one of the most diverse and well priced wine lists in the Clear Lake/Friendswood/Pearland area.

We have been there twice and have now tried all the appetizers and definitely agree the crab cakes are a must try item. As far as main courses, the steaks are top rate and very well cooked. The desserts have been a little hit and miss but the carrot cake is very good.

The only negative is indefinitely the atmosphere. It is a low slung building with very little interior elements that help absorb sound so it is very loud. The two nights we were there the music was also loud enough that you had to raise your voice to be heard over it which just made everything worse.

Overall, the best restaurant in the Clear Lake/Friendswood/Pearland area.
