Profile Description: We named our restaurant Nelore after Brazil's most famous breed of cattle. South Brazilian style Churrascaria. Meat served by gauchos. The "cowboys" of Brazil. We offer all you can eat table side servive where you can select your favorite cuts of slow-roasted seasoned meat that have been cooked on skewers. Choose from beef, pork, lamb or chicken.
MY REVIEW: My relatives had come in for Labor Day and since it was son-in-laws birthday, we decided to really splurge. Our party consisted of 4 generations. The food, ambiance, service, you name it, was the best I have ever experienced. This was the first time for all of us but won't be the last. The icing on the cake was that we made a mistake (in their favor) when tallying the bill. The manager came outside to tell us and correct it for us. I have NEVER experience that before. A great restaurant plus honest employees.

MY REVIEW: As usual was impressed with the service and quality of food as compared to F*ogo de Chao. This was a birthday celebration and the staff could not have been more attentive despite being very busy. The meat selection was fantastic and I find the flavor of the food here much better than at Fogo. In fact once I take people (friends and business associates) here they usually comment how much better they enjoyed Nelores over F*ogo. The ambiance is also more intimate and the location much easier to get to if you live inside the loop.

MY REVIEW: I am a long time fan of F*ogo de Chao, because I lived in South America for many, many years and my wife and I are intimately knowledgeable about Brazilian churrascurias.
I consider F*ogo to be about a 15 on a scale of one to ten, simply because in the probably 200 times we've eaten there, it's always been beyond outstanding,
Saying that, and having read the reviews about Nelore, I did not expect it to be quite the equivalent, but I was anxious to try a competitor and I expected it to be at least a seven or eight.
Huge disappointment with terrible food, terrible service, and a very negative experience.
Our reservation was for 8:30. We were finally seated at 9:00. The total number of seats at the mini-bar in the front totals five and we sat there trying to get a glass of wine. No luck. The bartender got into a cat fight with a waiter and they were standing there arguing with one another, while the vacant eyed hostess just stood around with a glazed expression.
The only reason we even got seated was because I threatened to leave if we weren't given a seat.
We sat at a dark table in a dark corner and after fifteen minutes, the waiter finally asked if we wanted something to drink. When we went to the salad bar, there were no plates. None at all. We had to ask them to bring plates and somewhat later they did.
Skimpy offerings at the salad bar. I have seen better offerings at the Golden C*orral buffet. We finally worked our way through the meager offerings and eventually were given clean plates.
Then it was time to try the meat and we turned our colored discs green side up. In all the time we were there. only five offerings of the most pathetic meats I have ever eaten. The last offering, when it finally came as "filet mignon", which is supposed to be the leanest and best of offerings. Not here....stringy, impossible to chew, undercooked, and something I just spit out on the plate.
Final bill: One hundred twenty three dollars. This place is Grand Theft. A total ripoff.
Do not spend your money on this restaurant. Better food and offerings at your local fast food restaurant.
I went here with some very high hopes. I love Brazilian food and South American food in general, but this was the worst dining experience I had had in years.

MY REVIEW: WOW! From the excellent customer service to the tasty food, where do I start? I can't even count how many different cuts I tasted. The waitstaff was very attenitive! I will go back for sure. I will tell everyone about this place and spread the word! A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

MY REVIEW: I was really happy to see this restaurant open in my neighborhood awhile back. I had been to the "other" restaurant on Westheimer and wondered how Nelore would compare..and well, I can say..my family and I will always frequent Nelore as long as it is there. We have gone several times and it never disappoints.
The atmosphere is cozy and not stuffy. The staff are friendly, informative and more than willing to bring around any cut of meat you desire. I was worried at first, b/c I am one of the few that do not like rare cuts of meat, but no worries, just tell the waiters you prefer a cut a little more well done and they will provide it for you. I love this place and definitely recommend it!

MY REVIEW: My husband and I went to Nelore to celebrate my birthday and we were both extremely pleased with our dining experience. The atmosphere is simple, yet elegant. The salad bar had a very nice selection; I loved the huge boiled shrimp and the smoked salmon. We sampled on several things, but in small amounts so as to leave room for the meat. Between the two of us, we sampled almost all of the meats, except for the chicken and chicken hearts. All the meats we tried were delicious, some we wanted seconds and thirds of. The lamb chops were tasty, but I found myself wanting mint sauce with the lamb! The service was impeccable, everyone was very gracious. Since it was my birthday, they gave me my choice of a free dessert; I chose the chocolate mousse cake. My husband and I shared and ate it all! We also liked our wine selection, a nice Merlot from Chile. The waiter was kind enough to write it down for us so we would remember what we drank. We would definitely go back (probably for a special occaision; while we didn't break the bank, it's not cheap, but worth it, definitely!)
I have been to R*odizio several years ago, when it was open, and loved it. I have never been to the other well-know churrascaria on Westheimer, so I can't compare it with Nelore. But after reading everyone else's comparisons here, I'll keep going back to Nelore! I recommend it highly. Treat yourself -- you'll definitely have a wonderful meal and will want to go back!

MY REVIEW: This is pretty much the best restaurant in the universe. The meats are amazing, and the salad bar is much better than I expected. The cheese-filled rolls are great. The service is also pretty fantastic. Last time I was there I mentioned to our waitress that I really liked the chicken hearts (try them! they're great!), but I hadn't seen any so far that night. So they cooked a batch just for me! Excellent. If I was a billionaire, I would eat here every day.

MY REVIEW: This is the first time we had been to Nelore. I had made a reservation throught their website. No problem with doing that. My name was on their book clear as day. Front door valet was a suprise to us. We are not used to this kind of service and at first were alittle concerned we had walked into a place where we may have felt out of our element. Not used to what we would call a fine dining experience. But we were immediately welcomed and made to fell very well at home. Our waiters were very helpful in explaining how their service worked and at the time we went in, they were there watching over us and making sure everything was to our liking! IT WAS! They were always there to push in my wife's chair or filling our drinks or getting me another can of brazilian SODA. They even let me purchase a can to take home with me. I LOVED THE SODA!!!
Being there early enough before the dinner crowd on a Friday, we had the food fresh off the flames. Our introduction was none other than the HOUSE SPECIAL. A steak with a portion of fat and grilled with fat side on top. Any good griller knows why that is. Then it was drizzled with garlic and butter to make a steak that melts in your mouth. We looked at eachother and knew this was going to be an amazing experience. It was. We tried every meat except the chicken hearts. Each meat had it's high points and some low. With enough tasting we were able to find our likings. I personally loved the Bottom Sirloin and House special.
Price to me is simple. You get what you pay for. This was well worth the price. We did get alittle taken back by the price on my SODA habbit. $3 a can and at 5 cans call me a sodaholic. My wife had a delicious lemonade with unlimited refills. We also had a cheesecake that was served with flair and style!
This was a very memorable experience for myself and my wife. It's been two weeks since we were there yet I still can think back and experience it all right now. That is something rare. Nelore is RARE and a place I look forward to going back to again and again. Thank you Nelore.

MY REVIEW: Excellent restaurant and very good food. Atmosphere is nice but -- Garlic meat is really good as is house speciality. Salad bar is small but adequate. We had a group of 5 and total bill was 300+ with no alcohol ordered. 28/per person, bottled water, 2 deserts, and automatic tip included on the bill of 18%. Prices quickly add up, but was good food and had a good time. Will go back but will watch out what we order.

MY REVIEW: LOVED Nelore's!!! In my opinion it was better than f*ogo de chao because ambiance is nice and calm. The salad bar has a good variety of and I loved their mushroom pasta. My husband and I went for lunch and the meats were wonderful. The price was about $28 per person, including a coke. For desert I strongly reccomend their Papaya dessert or their Brownie a la mode! wonderful friendly place.

MY REVIEW: I liked the atmosphere of this place, and the food overall. Some of the meat had too much salt, but overall it was good. The salad bar was not as extensive as F*ogo's, but it had plenty of choices. We spent about $58 for 2 with iced tea for a weekday lunch. In comparison to F*ogo's, I liked F*ogo's meat better because everything that I tasted was good. I would go back to this place since it is closer to me and is in a better part of town than the other place

MY REVIEW: If you like f*ogo de chao without the noise, movement and tourist then you will love this place. The concept is the same... Gauchos bring fine cuts of meat to your table continuously until you flip your card to red. The salad bar has a good variety of cold meats, cheeses, salmon, boiled shrimp, salad stuff and even some pasta dish. My favorite meat was the Picana--hope I am spelling it right. The service was nice and pleasant. It was not to overcrowded which makes it ideal if you are coming with little ones. I strongly recommend you try the Brazilian Lemonade. It was very very good. A bit on the pricier side but I would still recommend for a nice lunch or dinner.

MY REVIEW: This was an incredible dining experience. All of the food, the salad bar and meats were excellent! The service was outstanding, and the ambiance and appearance of the restaurant were warm, and charming. The papaya cream dessert, offset with a dollop of Creme de cassis was exquisite. It is at leat equal and in many ways surpassing its westside counterpart.
This will be my husbands and my new favorite special occasion destination. Applause and accolades. Deborah and Glenn Jauer

MY REVIEW: This is a terrific restaurant for hungry carnivores. My wife and I thought we'd give it a try just to see what it was like, but neither of us has a tremendous appetite, so (since it's a fixed-price restaurant)we ended up spending a lot more than made any sense for the few ounces of food we consumed (and liked). It's also a very "busy" restaurant--food-servers constantly on the move around you. These are not really complaints. This place obviously suits a lot of people, which is fine. It just doesn't suit us, because we like a quiet evening, with the chance of making choices from a menu.

MY REVIEW: Wow! What an awesome meal. My wife and I wanted to try a new place for our anniversary, so we thought we'd give Nelore's a try. Everything was top notch. The salad bar was small, put packed full of goodness. I basically considered it roughage to help the meat through the system. The meat was awesome, the Picanya and the bottom sirloin were my favorites. The service was the best I have ever experienced (although I'm not a fancy restaurant type of guy). It was a nice mix of attentive service without being obtrusive. The price was definitely right for the quality ($35 a piece for dinner). Just an overall pleasant experience. I will definitely return to get my meat fix.

MY REVIEW: My daughter flew home for my 50th birthday and I wanted to go to a special place for dinner. I had read the reviews here about this restaurant and decided to bring my family to Nelore to try it out. This place is excellent! The food is every bit as good as F*ogo de Chao's but at a much more reasonable price. The service was exceptional, with our water glasses were continually filled, used plates were whisked away and fresh baskets of hot cheese rolls were ever present. The tri tip in butter and garlic beef were my favorites as was the smoked salmon on the salad bar which was included in the meal. Yes, the salad bar, although nice, was not quite as extensive as F*ogo's but who comes to a steakhouse for salad anyway??? If you are a meat eater, this is the place for you! You've got to try it!

MY REVIEW: My husband and I just dined at Nelore for our 12th anniversary. We loved it! We have been to Churrascarias in Rio and also have visited F*ogo*de*Chao here in Houston. Nelore was fabulous in comparison. First, we loved the ambience and service at Nelore. Our waiter and the managers at the restaurant seemed dedicated to making our evening special. Many times we were asked if we wanted a certain cut of meat brought to our table. We never felt rushed and it seemed like the staff was interested in us getting a chance to try everything. The leg of lamb was spectacular! The bacon-wrapped filet was so flavorful. The garlic meats were wonderful. On the salad bar, the mushrooms and the fettuccini were my favorite dishes but everything else was great too. Definitely try this restaurant. I would recommend it to anyone.

MY REVIEW: I moved to Houston a little over a year ago. I eat at restaurants 4-5 times a week. Eating at restaurants is my hobby.Very seldom have I been wowed by a restaurant but Nelore did that for me today. The service was impeccable. First I tried the salad bar. Normally I eat very little at the salad bar as I am a carnivore by nature but the food at the salad bar was so above average especially the Brazilian potato salad, the chicken salad and the black beans. I even went back for seconds! Then the meat started coming. Everything was outstanding but I thought the leg of lamb and the bacon wrapped filet mignon was to die for. And for dessert I had homemade flan which was also very good. I will NEVER go back to F*ogo De Chaio. This restaurant blows that one away and it's cheaper. What a treat this meal was.

MY REVIEW: I had seen the other reviews for this restaurant and decided this is where I wanted to celebrate my birthday with my husband and another couple. We were all very impressed with the food and the price was very reasonable. The service was impeccable... by the time we returned from the salad bar all of our napkins had been refolded and placed neatly on our chairs. Just a heads up, they did add 18% automatically for the gratuity to our bill. (I ended up giving the head waiter extra because he was that good!)

MY REVIEW: After accidentally finding this new restaurant and reading the positive feedback I couldn’t wait to try this inner loop Churrascaria. I am a big fan of the obvious competitor of this new establishment but seldom frequent it because the trip is too great in a working lunch hour. I have to say that the location of Nelore is just superb for anyone living in the Museum/Montrose region.
First impression of the place was encouraging. Complimentary valet parking and a friendly front door welcoming set the tone for my whole experience. After a brief look around the restaurant I choose my own table, this was possible because I was catching the very last of the lunch time service. There were less than 10 patrons in the place and it had little to no atmosphere.
After ordering a soft drink I made a pass at the salad bar. It is not as comprehensive as its outer loop competitor but certainly adequate. The fresh mozzarella was just superb, though I couldn’t find sliced tomatoes or balsamic vinegar for the life of me.
Those of you who have frequented the main Churrascaria in town for lunch will probably know that soft drinks are served in the little bottles, not refillable and not cheap, like $3 or $4 each. I was pleasantly surprised to find regular refillable sodas served, great when it’s near 100 degrees outside.
The two waiters on duty were efficient, professional and from Brazil. They paraded a constant selection of perfectly cooked meats that any carnivore would thoroughly enjoy. I especially liked the house special (can’t remember the name of it), but all the cuts were worthy of trying. I was a little disappointed not to find chicken hearts on the menu, but it’s a small minus.
After lunch the check came and I was pleasantly surprised to find the bill to be almost exactly $ 20. I think this represents fantastic value for money given the quality of service and food. I would encourage anyone who hasn’t been to a Churrascaria to give it a try and for those of you who enjoy them, this one is a must.

MY REVIEW: My fiancee and I went there for Lunch one Friday. She is Brazilian, and I have been to Brazil many times and have visited various levels of "Steak Houses" there. Nelore compares well. Yes, many people said that the salad bar was lacking, but as far as we were concerened it was fine. I don't really eat lettuce, but there was romaine lettuce on the salad bar. I just snacked on some olives, palm hearts (which were very good, btw), and potato salad. But my main reason of going there was for the meats.
The meats were excellent. Filet wrapped in bacon was the best, "Picanha" was also good, but could use a touch of salt, but that's OK. I guess it's more healthy that way. Leg of lamb was also excellent. I only had a beer, but my fiancee claims that the caipirinha was very good.
We will be going back there. I will try dinner next time.
Oh, and the best part was the bill. For lunch we paid for 2 people what you would pay for 1 person at the "other place" (which BTW, I had pretty poor experience with last time, but that's another review).
P.S. Do not take your fancy low sports car there because you will scrape the nose trying to get into the parking lot. The enterance is really steep.

MY REVIEW: I read a review from The Houston Press and thought I would try it out. My husband and I went there for our anniversary dinner. It wasn't necessarily romantic, but we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Diners ranged from young to old, wearing shorts to club attire. My husband enjoyed the filet mignon wrapped with bacon while I melted over the New York strip steak. The meat was beautifully cooked, seasoned well, and oh so tender. Since my visit, I have recommended Nelore to all of my friends. It is well worth the price. I didn't visit the salad bar (I'm a meat eater), but i tasted the heart of palm salad off my husbands plate. It was awesome!

MY REVIEW: I had never been to a Brazilian restaurant before my experience at Nelore. I knew I was in for a treat though. My boyfriend is a connoisseur of meats, if you will-- SO he has visited Nelore's competition outside of the loop.
We made a reservation for 8pm on a friday night. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the nicest valet guys. I always find Valet service to be a nice touch. They each took a door and opened them for us both.
We entered into a crazy house when we walked through the doors. Everyone in the Foyer seemed to be having a great time laughing and drinking. I was told that our wait would be about 15 minutes, even though we had a reservation, and that we were welcome to have a drink at the bar. Saying that the bar is TINY is quite the understatement! The bartender, Benjamin, made our wait quite enjoyable- despite the fact that he was very busy!! He reccommended that we try this Passion Fruit drink made with Brazilian Rum... to die for! Chris had the same cocktail, but made with the traditional lime. We both agreed the Passion Fruit was better!
After our shorter than quoted wait, we were taken to a table on their "patio"-- which is actually enclosed. Our server, Fernando, greeted us promtly. He explained the concept to me in great detail. We immediately hit the salad bar. From reading the past comments... I am pleased to announce that there is NOW romaine lettuce on the salad bar! The potato salad at Nelore rivals that of my mother! The Mozzarella was so fresh and juicy. Back at the table, the "Guachos" brought by so many different cuts of meat. The Bacon wrapped Filet was one of my favorites. I didn't have room to try them all! (I suggest NOT eating 6 pieces of that sinfuly delicious cheezy bread... I guess Chris knew the secret and didn't share!) Our server made sure our drinks were never neglected... plates were always taken and replaced... Fernando described the desserts in such a seductive manner, but being the pig I am- still had no room! The table next to us ordered the Papaya dessert, and I could hear them moaning orgasmically over how fantastic it was!
The bill was for less than we had anticipated for all that we got. It was almost a guilty pleasure to pay our bill. With bar drinks and all of that great meat, or bill came out to about $75. Greg, the manager, brought us our bill, and seemed genuinely curious to know how our experience was. With a place like this, I'm sure he gets a lot of smiles from happier than happy customers! This place is such a breath of fresh air to the Montrose community! We already have reservations for this weekend, since my family will be in town.
