Don Teo's

MY REVIEW: Still my favorite Mexican place in Houston. Throw back 1960's style Mexican food of the old M*onterrey House "to go" kind. Great "real" cheddar cheese enchiladas, not that oily, salty yuk you get at every other Mexican restaurant. Don Teo is not like the other Mexican restaurants on every corner. I suggest a dinner with the freshest guacamole ever made, the best chile con queso ever, beans and I don't know how they do it fluffy rice and cheese or beef enchiladas. This is my happy meal, oh yeah fresh onions on the side. The chips are the best and I like the fresh salsa as well. Lots of COLD Dos Equis. This is not a place to go for snootiness of ambiance, it is all about the original tex-mex at its finest!!!!!

MY REVIEW: I love this place, family owned and operated, great service, they treat you like family, I could go on for days. I have been going here for decades. The food is always fresh can't get better queso anywhere. Guacamole - better than mine! When my daughter and I show up, now with my grandson, we all get our own bowls of salsa! Prices are great and the beer is always cold!

MY REVIEW: I usually eat once a week at Don Teos. The staff there are great they treat you like you part of the family. And the chips are fantastic, they aren't greasy. They have the crunch your look for.The chile con queso there is great, the best in all of Houston.I've been to multiple Tex-Mex restaurants and this one has the best chile con queso(chesse). The salsa is also good and so is the guacamole. The fajitas there are great the chicken ones are my favorite. The beans aren't canned they are made daily and are fresh. The rice has a wonderful taste, I don't think i will ever get enough of this restaurant.Keep up the good work!

MY REVIEW: Why is it so easy for people to write a bad review when they get angry but yet so hard to write a good one when they're visit at a restaurant is great?? I really don't understand that but anyway here is my review and I hope you can take my word on it. Their food is awesome!!! Their chips are nice, crispy and crunchy (just like I like them) as well as NON-greasy compared to all those other restaurants out there I've been to. The fajitas are great especially the chiken fajitas (my personal favorite) mix it up with some chile con queso and you are good to go. The food is made fresh daily never frozen. Seriously you can taste the difference. This is probably one of the best if not the ONLY one that is clean and the people there are as friendly as can be. This is a family owned business and they really know how to keep it together and they sure do know how to keep a customer come back for more. It really is a place that makes you feel like home. Oh and the price!! Let me tell you it is reasonable!!! I'm always trying to get more for my dollar so if you want to eat some quality food and make sure you are paying for something that is good and is worth your buck this is your place!! I love you guys!! Keep up the good work!!

MY REVIEW: The staff at Don Teo's should be commended for their EXCEPTIONAL service after hurricane Ike. Many parts of Houston were greatly affected by Hurricane Ike, as anyone living in Oak Forest or Garden Oaks can attest to. Imagine our delight to find out that not only did Don Teo's have electricity after the storm, but they were one of the few places open on Monday offering a place to come in and escape the heat and humidity and get a cold drink and a home cooked meal.
The staff at Don Teo's has always made me feel at home and some of the reviews below make me wonder if these people were eating at the same Don Teo's where I eat. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive.
The food is good Tex Mex food. The hot sauce is not "bring tears to your eyes hot", but it is not bland by any stretch of the imagination. Everything is always made fresh and that comes through in the quality of the food. Try the guacamole if you don't believe me. You won't find any packaged product there!
Bravo to the owners and staff for persevering through the crowds of folks who descended on the restaurant in the days following the hurricane. I pass by every evening on my way home from work and the place was a mad house to say the least, and the staff was there day after day putting aside their own situations at home, to serve the residents of Oak Forest and the surrounding communities .
This is one neighborhood restaurant that will continue to get my business as long as they or I are around! Thank you Don Teo's!

MY REVIEW: Hands down, the best cheese enchiladas in Houston!! Nothing fancy, just the basics done to perfection. Like the other reviewer said, tastes like the mexican food we ate growing up in the '70's in Houston...M*onterrey House. If you want a margarita, to be seen or upscale ambiance, stay away. Five stars *****!!!! By the way, the owner is very nice & always there and the service is great.

MY REVIEW: Being new to the area, we have spent the last 2 weeks trying out some of the local restaurants. Out of the 3 Mexican restaurants we have tried Don Teo's is the worst. The service was not great and the staff was unfriendly and lacked personality. The menu selection is weak especially compared to J*uanita's, and the prices are higher than J*uanitas and Mi S*ombrero which are in the neighborhood. The food was bland and even the salsa lacked flavor. With the other options that are close by, don't bother with Don Teo's.

MY REVIEW: Stopped by yesterday after the noon crowd for a bite. There was only one other couple in the place. We sat and sat and sat, finally a waitress came over to get our drink order. We sat and sat(watched her on the phone)and sat and finally we got our drinks. She said she'd get us menu's so we sat and sat and sat (watched her on the phone) after 15 minutes we left. Have always had good food here, but this time - no food review as we did not get any... With the economy the way it is you'd think we could of at least had service. Won't go back...

MY REVIEW: I like this place. It is an old building with the same wait staff for several years. It is not your cutting edge trendy mexican food. IMHO, this is what I remember growing up with in the 70's. Simple mexican food that is consistent. I usually stay with the enchiladas and the basics. Although I have not tried them, this is not the place you want to order fajitas or something like that. Go with enchiladas, nachos, tacos, chalupas, etc. My coworkers and I eat there about twice a month for the last 8-10 years.

MY REVIEW: Wonderful nachos! Get the cheese nachos and ask for extra jalapenos. Heavenly! I also always get the beef quesadilla. Unlike quesadillas in most places, this one is lightly "fried," so don't expect it to be fat free. But oh, it is delicious. The chips are magnificent, too...crispy, crunchy, and light. We love this place!! It is a regular Friday outing. All the waitresses are wonderful, but since we have been going on Friday afternoons, we have grown to love Sylvia--a true delight. Go, go, go!!
