21143 State Hwy 249, Houston, Texas 77070 832.717.7781 MY REVIEW: I recently read all the comments to the Restaurant The Egg and I, and this is in response to R.M. of the Woodlands....I myself have visited the establishment at random, (different days for that mattter) and have never had any of the waitressing staff ever act or say anything rude to me or others around me. I have eaten at both establishments (Woodlands and 249) and all I have to say is that courtesy is a 2 way street. If you walk into any restaurant with a bad attitude, then you will always see everything as dark and gloomy. The owner is always friendly, walks up to every table to see how everyone is (even though he may not know you), and always shows professionalism. When I've eaten at the Woodlands location, you get the same great service, but it seems like the general population from that part of town want everything served to them within seconds...if not then it is considered bad service or unfriendliness. Perception is always what determines an experience so if you are a gloomy gus, you'll never be satisfied regardless of the situation. I think this is a fine establishment, and no I don't believe that the customer is always right (I work with the general public, so I know what I'm talking about). I strongly recommend this restaurant if you like a great ambience, have a pleasant attitude, not difficult to please, and enjoy a hearty and healthy breakfast/lunch.

21143 State Hwy 249, Houston, Texas 77070 832.717.7781 MY REVIEW: Very good resturant. We went to the one at 249 because we were meeting somone but we will certainly be trying the woodlands location as we live up there. I had the omelet with veggies and it was pretty dang good. I won't say it was over the top good but very good value for the price. Think of it as a step up from I*HOP but cheaper than C*racker Barrel. I can't stand I*HOP because it is always so dirty and the workers seem so grungy all the time. But this place was very pleasent AND better food. Must try.

21143 State Hwy 249, Houston, Texas 77070 832.717.7781 MY REVIEW: Yuk, yuk, yuk!!! The service was slow, my husband and I waited 15-20 minutes just to get someone to acknowledge us. There was another table there who I noticed the wait staff spending a lot of time at and we were totally ignored. Eventually, the other table consisted of an older lady who was there with her family and she must have been a frequent visitor. When we did get someone to ask our waitress to come over, she made us feel as if we were bothering her and she was seeking an apology from us. You would have felt hard pressed to get a smile out of this waitress. She put our food order in and then went back to the other table to carry on more conversation. The food arrived and the order was incorrect. Food was sent back to the kitchen. The waitress did not acknowledge the fact that there was a mistake but continued on with her other tables including the one she spent a lot of time at! (again, just chit chat!) By the time we got our food, we did not even want it. The bill turned up and we told the management about our experience. She did give us a certificate for only part of our meal. I used this certificate for another visit which was almost as bad as the first and then was told I could not use all of the cert. for my visit.
I have had better experiences with D*enny's, I*HOP, The A*valon (Wonderful place in Houston), and Los C*ucos. From one friend to another, try those other restaurants first before you dine at Egg and I, unless you like waiting what seems like forever to get something to eat. I will not recommend this place to anyone esp. those whom I care for or take out to eat.

21143 State Hwy 249, Houston, Texas 77070 832.717.7781 MY REVIEW: I have been twice and my husband has been four times. Every experience has been extremely positive! We've been during the week for lunch, on Sunday for lunch and on Saturday for breakfast. Every time was busy but not a long wait. The orders were presented perfectly and in a timely manner. The food was EXCELLENT. If I had a negative comment (which I'm not complaining!) it would be that the orders were too large but most people like that! The fritatas are very good as well as the wheat pancakes. We return again and again, I'm sure!

1644 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, Texas 77381 281.419.8333 MY REVIEW: I really like the Egg and I, our family has had breakfast there many times, the food is good and reasonable, the only thing I didnt like is the place is so small, if you show up after 8:30 am on a Saturday you will wait forever to get a table. The last time we went they forgot my son's bacon, but other than that I would recommend The Egg and I!

21143 State Hwy 249, Houston, Texas 77070 832.717.7781 MY REVIEW: Each time I have been there it takes for ever to get your meal, and twice they have brought out the wrong order... I will not go back and the prices are way to high for the poor service.

1644 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, Texas 77381 281.419.8333 MY REVIEW: My wife and I have become regulars here for breakfast. The menu is varied and reasonably priced. The service is always attentive and friendly. The management staff has taken the time to come by our table on numerous occasions and demonstrated that our patronage is valued. The food is always fresh and prepared with a light touch. In addition to the breakfast basics, the kitchen turns out a delicious assortment of unique dishes. We recommend The Egg and I in The Woodlands highly.

1644 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, Texas 77381 281.419.8333 MY REVIEW: I met a friend there for a Saturday breakfast and we got there around 7:30 am, so there was no wait. The service was good and the restaurant had a very homey atmosphere. I had perfectly cooked eggs and a plump, beautiful waffle. My friend had an omelet with their salsa on the side which was delicious. She said their sandwiches are great too, so I will have to go back to lunch.

1644 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, Texas 77381 281.419.8333 MY REVIEW: While working on contract in The Woodlands between May, 2006 and January, 2007), this was the place I ate breakfast. Never had a bad meal there. Tried many items on the menu, waffles (good), fritatas (excellent), pancakes (good but too big), omlettes (excellent), scrambled eggs (good), their oatmeal special with fruit, brown sugar and raison topping, and an english muffin (outstanding), and their granola parfrait (good).
If I had a comment about the place it is that their servings are extremely generous.
I found staff accomodating, courteous, pleasant and helpful and got to know some of them fairly well. NONE of them ever complained to me about their working conditions. One waitress got promoted to "greeter" while I was frequenting the place.
Had a tuna salad there once for lunch and it too was outstanding. However, the place is really crowded at lunch and I was lucky to get a table. The system there is that the person taking your order may not be the one delivering it because their rule of thumb is that whoever is in the kitchen takes the order out right away.
I highly recommend this place.

We like the eggs (especially the fritatta), the wheat pancakes, and the waffles. The hot chocolate is very good, and our kids though the chocolate milk was creamy and had a great chocolate flavor

1644 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, Texas 77381 281.419.8333 MY REVIEW: Decided to try this place after reading about it in Ken Hoffman's column in the Chronicle.
Arrived on a Saturday at 1:45pm and were seated immediately. Our waitress was most pleasant and efficient. The menu selections were out of this world...this place sure gives L*ePeep a run for it's money! The food was incredible, the prices very fair for what we ordered. For desert, we ordered One raspberry/granola pancake which was so big you couldn't see the plate - and it was delicious. We will most definitely go back again.

1644 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, Texas 77381 281.419.8333 MY REVIEW: We were there on a Sunday morning between 9 and 9:30. We were seated immediately which was nice after reading about the long waits.
The waitress showed up quickly and offered coffee. There was a carafe of water with lemon on the table which was very nice. However, knowing that I drink LOTS of water, I asked if she would bring another one (I thought she could bring it with the coffee and save a trip). She looked rather annoyed at the request.
After a long wait she finally came back to take our order. The order was nothing special. My husband ordered the daily special and I ordered something directly off the menu - no special requests.
By the time our food FINALLY got to us (not deliverd by our waitress) it was MAYBE room temperature...closer to cold. Our waitress finally showed up about 15 minutes later asking how the food was. My husband said that the flavor was good but that it had been served cold. At which point she said, "Oh, well I guess I could have stuck it in the microwave but I see you are nearly finished".
Anyway, the experience was poor to say the least. We are going to blame it on the waitress, not the restaurant, and give it another try. But first impressions count and this one was very disappointing.

1644 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, Texas 77381 281.419.8333 MY REVIEW: Have never had a bad breakfast or experience at the Egg and I. It must be good when I can get my husband to make the wait more than once on a Sunday after church. He enjoys the coffee they provide while he waits. It is a great place for a Sunday family breakfast. We love it! Will probably be back again on Sunday.

1644 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, Texas 77381 281.419.8333 MY REVIEW: My wife and I are THRILLED that the Egg and I has opened up here in the Woodlands. The food is exceptional, the service is great... the owner comes to check that you're enjoying your meal (or sometimes serves it himself). They serve TAZO teas (very high quality), and have lemon water in a caraffe at your table when you sit down. The staff is friendly, full of smiles, and seem genuinely glad to see you. I've gotten to try quite a few of their breakfasts, and the main problem I have is choosing one, as they all look so good (great variety on the menu). The eggs benedict are, in my opinion, the best way to judge a breakfast restaurant, and they simply could not be done better. We moved to the Woodlands from the New York Metropolitan area (I lived in Manhattan for many years), so I'm not the easiest to please when it comes to food, and this restaurant gets my top vote in every category. There can be a wait to get in, but this just shows how much people like the food here. In this "fast food" age, it's nice that people can slow down a bit and enjoy a top notch, sit down breakfast, and leave happy (and full to boot).
Thank you Egg and I... I hope you open more here soon.

The Egg and I is a great place to eat and I have never had food that was bad. They exceed anything that the local I*HOP or D*enny's could ever produce. Go and see for yourself.

1644 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, Texas 77381 281.419.8333 MY REVIEW: We were also thrilled that there was a breakfast place in The Woodlands, since the offerings are slim (D*enney's and I*HOP). Friends told us they had a good experience, so off we went. It was Saturday morning and there was a huge wait for a table, so we decided to try a week day and returned on a Friday morning around 9:30 am and had no trouble getting a table. Unfortunately we were seated next to a large group (10 people) who were conducting some sort of meeting. They were quite loud and we had difficulty hearing each other. There were plenty of other tables open. On top of that, the food was only so-so. My egg dish was supposed to be scrambled with four types of cheese and I was hard pressed to identify more than one. My potatoes were cold. My spouse's poached eggs were hard as a rock and when he complained, they brought two additional eggs in a dish and plunked them on the table, not offering to remove the hard eggs from his corned beef hash or re-heat the hash that was now cold. I was finished with my dish by the time they replaced his eggs. When we left, the hostess asked us how we enjoyed our meal and we told her about the poached eggs. She called over the manager/owner who blamed it on the cooks, who he said are still learning how to cook eggs. I would think they should know how to cook eggs properly at a place called the Egg & I!!

My friend had the caramel french toast. It was so sinful and delicious. I had one of the lighter side meals and it was still big enough to be filling.
Overall, a great experience.

1644 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, Texas 77381 281.419.8333 MY REVIEW: My husband and I were so excited when The Egg & I Restaurant opened. We love breakfast and other than D*enny's and C*racker Barrel there really are no places for a good breakfast and/or lunch. That is, until this wonderful place opened it's doors. First of all it's liking being with an old friend or visiting a place you love to go back to because the people are warm, especially Chris and Gayle. The servers remember you. You get smiles and hugs and they make you feel special. We enjoy the atmosphere, the lovely soothing music, and the decor. Above all the food is fabulous. Their variety is amazing. They have specials everyday. From their water and lemon served when you walk over to you table to different pots of coffees or teas; it's really like coming home! I don't get very excited easily, but this was a so welcome and so needed in this area. Anyone who hasn't tried it yet is really missing out. Their pancakes and waffles are fabulous and different. They serve them with warm syrup. Their fruits and salads are fresh and plentiful and their service is excellent. Their sandwiches are fresh and delicious! What more can I say, except TRY IT, YOU'LL LOVE IT!!!

1644 Research Forest Dr, The Woodlands, Texas 77381 281.419.8333 MY REVIEW: This is not your typical breakfast restaurant like I*HOP or D*enny's. The food at this quaint cafe is consistently yummy. The Egg and I serves breakfast and lunch only. It is a transplant from Colorado, and the green chile is delicious and authentic (try the 'Some Like It Hot)! I get nostalgic when I eat their Biscuits and Gravy. My husband and I have never left the place unsatisfied, except once when we were too hungry to wait 30 minutes for a table! The Egg and I has become a fast favorite of Woodlands residents, so be prepared for a wait. A nice feature is the specialty coffee that they serve to patrons-in-waiting, as well as samples of their tasty smoothies! Casual, clean surroundings, friendly service, and an extensive breakfast menu: Eggs Benedict is next on my list of things to try!
