El Don The Mexican Restaurant (CLOSED)

 5901 Westheimer Rd Houston TX

MY REVIEW: I attended one of my Best Clients christmas party and I must admit I was very impressed. I had visited the place while on construction scince a good friend of mine provided and install the esquisit finishes such as stone, tile, ect. and the client who held his christmas dinner there was there to witness my friends work since I had recommended him for some finishes on his companys new office building and I guess he must have liked it scince he chose it for his party. Any way I must say that at first I tought it would be your typical mexican restaurant however ever since that night I highly recommend it for lunch dinner or even to hangout late at night since they have a international bar and the food and service is exellent not to mention the live music. During the dinner it was soft piano playing live in the back ground and at about 10:00 pm the live music change to a live salsa band that played very, very well. Any way Congratulation to Alex (Owner) Who was very Polite, accesible, and an exellent host. Thank's to all the staff who went out of their way to ensure we had a pleasant experience. Good luck guys and keep up the good work.

MY REVIEW: Very nice decor. Judging from the menu, the offered food stays apart from the "popular" mexican food you see everywhere. The menu appears designed to go closer to "out of the ordinary and closer to authentic fine mexican food". Service was attentive and prompt. I tasted the Shrimp "a caballo" and Tacos El Don for lunch. The shrimp were very tasty and presented with originality. Good to share and enjoy with a nice cold mexican beer. The tacos were not extraordinary but good. Very nice salsas. I certainly will return.

MY REVIEW: Absolutely the best mexican food in town, and not that fake tex mex. This place is just awesome. I really cant say enough about it, not only was the lunch and dinner good, the desserts are absolutely amazing, not just in flavor, but also in presentation. It is wonderful when the employees take as much pride in the appearance of the food as they do the taste. Destined to become one of the all time greats in the food business in Houston.

MY REVIEW: We went on a Sunday afternoon on a whim! It was delicious. My husband had a chicken dish stuffed with cheese and I had the mole enchiladas. The flavors were authentic. The owner also made sure we tried the mushroom quesadillas (made from special mushrooms found only in Mexico) they were incedible. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to experience the beutiful flavors of Mexico. I can't wait to return!

MY REVIEW: I attended opening night, and returned the following week for lunch. Food is fabulous, as is the service. This is NOT your standard Tex-Mex fare, but is rather authentic food from the Mexican interior. I will be back many times, especially for lunch.

MY REVIEW: Nice decor. Service was outstanding. We were greeted during dinner by the GM who was very nice. There were some unique items on the menu such as duck taquitos, avacado soup with watermelon, and cactus. I had the shrimp tacos which were good, but I would like to go back and try the cactus.

MY REVIEW: This is a Real Mexican resturant. We were greated by Alex he took great care of us all evening. The appeitzers were wonderful, especially the Soups. Don't miss the Tacos "El Don" on the Specialties menu and what ever you do, save room for the desserts, The staff is very friendly and does a great job.

MY REVIEW: This is a great new Mexican resturant. We went on openning night and it was great. We were greated by one of the owners, Eduardo Martinez, he took great care of us all evening. The appeitzers were wonderful, especially the Taquitos de Carnitas de Pato. Don't miss the Tacos "El Don" on the Specialties menu and what ever you do, save room for the desserts, we had 3 and they were all out of this world. The wait staff is very friendly and does a great job, it was standing room only the night we were there and they kept up well. We are looking forward to our next visit.

MY REVIEW: Beautiful decor. A classy looking place. The bartenders were very amicable. The night we were there was the grand opening so it was pretty hectic. The owner, "Don" Alex Aiza made special attempts to see that we were taken care of. The food was excellent. I loved the authentic Mexican grilled fish. The live music was wonderful. It was standing room only, so the service fell back slightly because of the crowd. We look forward to going back again and again. This is not your typical "baseball hat crowd" Mexican restaurant.

MY REVIEW: I stopped in to have a quick drink with a friend at the bar and we wished we could stay for dinner. The wonderful smells made us very hungry. The menu looks very interesting with authentic Mexican seafood and steak dishes, not TexMex. It's nicely decorated and the service we had was friendly and courteous. I will be back soon.
